Young Americans Bank Reviews

I went to Young Americans Bank as a volunteer for their AmeriTowne program which teaches financial education to students! I went with the 4th graders & the kids had such a blast having to do a ‘real job’ for a day at AmeriTowne! They came in dressed up in suits & dresses & were ready to take on the day! The concept is amazing and the kids truly had a wonderful learning experience as well as had fun whilst getting knowledge about how to withdraw ‘money’ from the ‘bank’, depositing it, using a debit card, doing expenses, keeping a ledger & also running their own businesses! It was a treat to watch kids running about doing their chores and also enjoy their time during their ‘breaks’ to buy things with their AmeriTowne cash & debit card! I’m sure every single one will take forward the learning experience from here & will remember this as their ‘best day ever’!

This bank is a complete joke and waste of people's time. We enrolled our three children (two teenagers) here and all we learned was to stay as far away from this institution as possible. Run in the opposite direction, in fact. No leadership. Not sure what the volunteers and employees know, but it's not banking.

My kids had a wonderful experience. Taiwan was wonderful explaining the "rules" of the bank and the various options. He took a lot of time explaining everything and walking them through how count change, how to fill out their deposit books and how to make deposits! He was amazing and wonderful. My kids are so excited to take the classes and make money by just having their money in the bank! They were also extremely interested in the vault of the bank which Taiwan gave them all the trivia on. Good on this bank for teaching children about savings and money! Highly recommend.

they say 1 1/2 business weeks but that’s the biggest cap it’s been over 2 weeks and no card tf man come on man. rude and rastist vice president named kelly payer😭🤦♀️
Hi, Rosa. We're sorry for the frustration you experienced with obtaining your debit card. It seems there was a data entry error that caused your card to be mailed to the wrong address and subsequently returned to the bank. It appears you have since closed your account. We own our mistakes when we make them and we are committed to serving all of our customers in a respectful, professional manner. We sincerely wish you the best on your financial journey.

*Archaic Banking* Unfortunately, Young Americans Bank is well behind the times. No quick nor easy way to transfer funds, staff ignores phone calls or hangs up on client calls when it is close to 5pm, no app for my child to review his balances, no zelle nor similar. They are not equipped to evolve with today’s dynamic financial landscape. If Ameritown was the only thing they offered, I would upgrade my rating but managing day to day accounts with real money is poor at best. It’s like using pen and paper when your laptop is sitting next to you. Opt for a better financial platform or pay fees and wait days to transfer and/or access funds.

I just went to International Towne a week ago and it was not fun at all! I was put in Panama and we sold beach balls that could fit in your palm, now I know this doesn't sound bad but when your next to Canada who sells food and Brazil that has a foosball table it sucks! Also the guy who was helping us just abandoned us the whole time, and when he was there he would just say I don't know and walk away!

I wish I could give this zero stars...Beware of all of their fees. I opened my kids accounts years ago because I thought it was a great concept. Didn't really give it much thought because it was a savings account. Now years later, I receive a phone call because of returned mail and come to find out they charge $25 per occurrence of returned mail and a $1 every month you do not use the account resulting in all of my kids accounts being closed and all of their money taken in "fees" because the account was dormant. I feel like they are taking advantage of children....not cool!
Dear Katie, We are sorry about the misfortune with your children’s Young Americans Bank accounts. We are a teaching bank for kids and the fees are charged only under specific circumstances. During our account opening sessions, we go over all the Rates and Fees and we include a printed copy in the new account packet we send with you at the time of opening the accounts. We also include a Passbook kids can bring in with them to earn prizes when they visit the bank. This is to encourage regular visits and more opportunities for financial education. Our current Savings Accounts Fees are: • Inactive Account Fee $1 per month No transaction for three or more years with less than $100 balance per month • Dormant Account Fee $25 per year No transaction for three years or more with no contact from customer The Dormant account fee is not charged for every occurrence of returned mail. We do make a phone call to our customers- at the phone number we have on file- prior to charging the dormant fee to give them the opportunity to make a transaction before we charge the fee. To help ensure fees are not charged, we advise our customers to keep their address up to date. We take pride in the fact that our bank offers kids the opportunity to learn about managing their own money with their own accounts. Our mission is to develop the financial literacy of young people through real life experiences. We hope this information provides some peace of mind for you and we assure you we have never operated with the intent to take advantage of our young customers. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other concerns or questions. -Young Americans Bank

Horrible Experience. As a working teenager, My card is frozen or declined for no absolute reason atleast twice a month. had the bank since July and there hasn’t been a full month where i haven’t had to call to fix my card. The costumer service is Terrible and the workers are rude and seem uninterested in fixing the situation they caused. For a family bank I’d expect more outstanding work and guaranteed assistance.

My children were in another State with family while I was traveling due to work! This bank blocked their cards claiming fraud because the cards were being used in a different state! Even under the allowed dollar amounts. I had to call every month to get the hold removed! Definitely not ideal if you are military or out of the country!!! I moved out of Colorado a month ago and forgot to update my address! This bank put a block on my kids accounts again and now claiming it’s mandated by the FDIC to block all cards when mail is returned mail! (Which was a lie per FDIC). The same information that is on this bank statement that caused this red flags was verbally given to me over the phone! They can tell that my children’s online accounts are logged into regularly and we haven’t reported any fraud, or lost/stolen bank cards! These are not new accounts either! Now this bank is demanding that we come into a branch or write a postal letter and will not unblock my children’s available electronic funds!! This bank is all fun and games when it comes to field trips and bank definitions but, not to be taken serious as an actual bank!! Not to mention a huge inconvenience for traveling customers!!
