I've shopped at toby's since 2010 when I was at uva fighting cancer, was in need of small cash loans dourng my treatment because I was flat broke and out of my job awaiting disability. Now I'm retired and still shopping at toby's, mainly in firearm buying, the shop and staff are wonderful, toby, is a great owner and, Rachel, Ashley and dear Britney are wonderful, this is my go to store, weather buying, selling or a trade, toby's is 5 star's. They are a professional and fair pawn shop. They have standars they abide by which on one hand, yes it means they will not take just anything, but on the other hand it means they take care of what they have, they have high quality items to buy, and if you are selling or loaning, you are in a select group. They are courteous and respectful. They are not trying to embarrass you if you are being something in for a loan or paying your month bill. They give really fair periods for loans and sales. I've been a citations for at least 6 years and I have never had a problem or mistake. I have seen the BAD pawn joints and this one sets the standard that the others should follow. Everyone either knows their stuff really well or is open to learning. They treat my items on loan as if its their own and they treat their customers like humans, not numbers or dollar signs. I won't go to any other shop. Once you build trust and reliability at Tobey's, you're in a special group. That means they won't harass you to buy stuff or try to convince you to spend twice as much if your keeping it simple. They have saved me from missing bills, missing rent, or missing beer money There is a invaluable aspect of Tobey's that many business in general, especially pawn shops, lack; it's the humility of human respect. If you treat thee employees with respect, you will be greeted with a response that is a genuine and kind human connection while buying, selling, or getting your loan. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!! ONLY TOBEY'S!! 😄

The staff here is excellent. They are friendly and professional, and are easy to work with. I would say the Main crew is better than the Rio crew, especially one member of the Rio crew, but even their weakest link is still strong. Prices are good, as are loan rates. Sell offers can trend a little low, but business is business. I give 4/5 instead of 5/5 because of the 'surprise' storage fee. The website describes that "Most loans work on a 10% + $3 interest fee per month, so if you pick up an item you received $100 for, all you pay is $113 at the time of redemption." Admittedly, it says 'most' and so one can imagine some things might have different rates, require a background check, etc. Moreover, it would be asking too much for the website to cover every contingency. Nevertheless, it seems the storage fee is pretty much a standard part of pawning with them regardless of item and so it seems like something the website should include as part of the picture. Still, overall, no better pawn shop in or near town - I am sure of it!

Nice clean and bright environment filled with friendly, respectful, and down to earth people. The quality of the product is outstanding and the diversity of the product line is unlike most pawnshops I've ever seen. They really work with you on getting your items home ASAP and they are in a really convenient location. My experience was wonderful and I will surely be back soon ! 😀

I brought an Xbox in and the guy wouldn’t even plug it in to check if it worked. He said there was “too much dust on it” so he couldn’t touch it. Keep in mind, the dust that was on it was easily able to be taken care of with a hand or a can of air spray. He told me “take it home and clean it then maybe we’ll take it.” The guy was rude for no reason, refused to even check to see if it worked based on it having some dust on it, and treated me like he didn’t care that I was trying to bring them business. I highly recommend avoiding this place and going to Snookis downtown. This was my first time visiting this pawn shop on Pantops and I’ll never go again

Tobey's slogan is "Changing Pawn For Good". Lots of business's have slogans, but Tobey's stands behind theirs. You feel extremely welcome as soon as you walk in the door at either location and the staff treats you like you're the only customer in the store. Their prices are fair, the products are top notch and the overall experience is great. Thank you!

Being my first time in a pawn shop I had no idea what to expect, much less my first time buying a firearm! Ashley was exceptional! She made me feel so comfortable around the guns, explained the differences in the guns, including her personal experience. I learned more in half an hour with Ashely about the gun I purchased and about gun safety than any other YouTube video or friends trying to explain it to me. Thank you for having such a patient and kind staff - we will be back!

I went to 3 gun stores and truly fee this is the best!!!! Thomas and all the stuff in the store were very patient with me. They are only professional but also kind. They sell gun but also teaching gun safety. They explained very detail about each gun and answered all of my questions. I am very happy with them and defiantly with use them again.

My husband (Dustin) and I absolutely love this place! We've dealt with several pawn shops in the area over there years and none of them can compare to Tobey's service! Every time we've pawned or sold something we've always gotten what we've asked for. They provide many services others do not. We've purchased many things from fire arms to speakers , tools, electronics and games. Never has anything been defective or over priced! They have an extremely wide variety of items including fire arms. The employees are always helpful and fun to deal with! I would highly recommend Tobey's whether you need to pawn or sell items or are looking to do some shopping for an affordable price! Fantastic place to find a good bargain. Friendly staff who are always willing to haggle a little bit, which makes it fun. Tobey stands behind his merchandise and has always treated people fairly. Great selection of guns particularly and many knowledgeable staff who can guide you through the background check to purchase a firearm legally - I've bought 3 there myself.

I went and picked up my FFL transfer, my background check was fast and easy. The 2 gentlemen who were in on Friday are very nice and professional, do not make the mistake of buying firearms online, they have layaway and a great selection. I will always shop here first and last for anything, thank you gentlemen
