Sunrise Banks Reviews

After running into some issues at my bank trying to cash my payroll check I was told to take it to the issuing bank to have it cashed hassled free which was Sunrise Banks. So, I went thinking there would be no issues upon arriving the female employee stated the following: it shouldn’t be a problem, that there wouldn’t be a fee, and that all she had to do was talk to her manager to clear the transaction. After returning from clearing the transaction with her manager, she had a totally different stance and said she couldn’t cash it without a proper explanation from anyone. After repeatedly asking for a proper explanation, she proceeded to repeat, “I just can’t cash it and asked me to leave” almost as if I was trying to cash a fraudulent check. After verifying with my job no one from Sunrise Banks ever reached out to verify the check with them and was also confused as to why they refused to cash a check they issued. Being a person of color who has been working at the same company for the last 7-8 years, I’ve never had this problem considering I almost always have direct deposit but because I switched direct deposit information I had to receive a paper check. Finally, I ended up having to go back to my bank and have it deposited just to have a 7 day hold on it, and to have my bank tell me that I was probably racially profiled.

These guys are difficult to deal with. Anything regarding customer service is a huge hassle, and nothing is communicated well. Debit card declined for no reason? Never heard a peep from them. Called the card issuer, tells me to call sunrise, call sunrise, ope, soooorry, our lobby is currently closed. Forget about it for a couple days, and still never hear anything from them. Next to nothing can be done online. One time I tried to raise my daily spending limit on my card, got tossed around to different people and then they hung up on me.

We use Sunrise for personal and business banking and they are amazing. A year or so ago I had a small concern with the level of service at one of their drive thrus at a branch, they were quick to resolve the issue and we’ve been very happy customers!
