SIU Credit Union W Main St, Carbondale

I have finally closed my accounts with this institution and have been with Midland States Bank for 10 months now. My account was really easy to open and I have had zero issues with them so far after 5 years of consistent issues with SIUCU while the Carbondale area. However- my fiancé received a piece of mail from them, and when he looked online, his account is still open! This is twice now that they’ve told him his account was closed and then didn’t do it.

If you need somewhere easy to make payments on the phone THIS is NOT the place. During this pandemic over the phone payments are wonderful but unfortunately this place fails in that aspect. They were rude to me when I asked for more information on how to make payments over the phone. It could be just this location that has awful customer service. The person at the window got snippy with me for using my debit card saying they prefer cash. I am patient but this experience has been stressful. I just want to make my payments with no stress. I suggest a different location or loan office if you enjoy easy payment methods.

Always good to deal with usually. But on this last loan it has been a total headache because of policy changes. In the past I would call explain and the money was there but now u have to sign this sign that get a copy of this which is fine but if your travelling to get a vehicle it's a real pain maybe that will read this and make a change or two to their policy to make it easier on the customer. Oh and I tried calling about my loan 51 times in one day.

The friendly workers here make this a great bank!

Highly recommend SIU Credit Union. Staff is efficient, great rewards, awesome loan rates for members for personal/auto loans, convenient locations (SIU campus, one each side of Carbondale & one in the larger surrounding towns), speedy service, and they give back to the community. Very caring about members and the staff is great! Perhaps the incident previously mentioned was an isolated incident...? My ONLY complaint, they do charge $1 if you run your debit card as a debit instead of a credit; the only time this poses a problem is when you're at Aldi's or the Dollar Tree (or some place that only accepts cash/debit) even if you don't get cash back, it's still charged as a debit, which means you're still charged $1. 95% of places you can just run the card as a credit though. Just go to the ATM that's .5 miles away and pull out the cash.

I don't have much issue with SIU Credit Union until you changed the app. Now all my Bill Pay is gone just suddenly and it seems to have constant problems. Not easy to navigate! Then on the other hand I got a Notary yesterday and it went smooth. Super frustrated! I will update this to say it's fixed and I got a personal email about it. I really appreciated that! Things happen, it's how you deal with things.

Thank you to the staff at SIU Credit Union. I am dealing with some fraudulent activity with my account and the team handled the situation very quickly. I appreciate their efforts and am grateful to be a member of SIU Credit Union. Thanks again!

Recently I started college courses again. So I had to change to part time work. I communicated the issue with paying some bills and the potential for my account going delinquent. They gave me options and when the time came they helped more than they had to. Good to see some flexibility and understanding.

They keep to cash for me handwrit checks from my dad n my payee. They have hassled me before with demand for current ID. I keep to get in mail from them demand to buy insurance. I used to have a debit card of their. They refused to cut n give me a new number and I got saved by an Asian girl at the WTO. I had bought from them gift Visa but quit when the company start to not honor cash paid.

Extremely rude customer service. They have no leeway on any type of fees. They offer fewer services than big banks yet cause more issues. Have switched back to Chase after 2 years with them.
