SIU Credit Union Reviews

Even though I didn’t end up going through the Union to get a loan, the help and advice I had here was very useful. The staff was very patient with me and helped me find the information that I needed.
Thank you for the review Mercedees. We're glad you were able to get the assistance you needed, and we hope we can help you in the future.

Delayed sending my vehicle title for months after paying off the loan I had with them. Then they sent it standard post without a signature required. Terrible practice.
Mr. Williams: Thank you for your feedback. The reason for the delay in delivery was due to not having a valid address on file with us. Once you verified your address, the title was released. If you'd care to discuss this issue with us any further, you're welcome to contact us at 618-457-3595 or [email protected].

I am so very fed up with them and dealing with the incompetent staff. I have my name connected to a business account and my personal account. I have had issues with money being withdrawn from my personal account when it should have been the business account. They supposedly put notes on these accounts to watch carefully when posting transactions. The last fiasco was when my personal real estate taxes were withdrawn from the business account in error. I talked to the branch manager whom seemed like she could care less. I called back later for more information, so left my name and number on the queue, no one ever returned my call. I will be canceling all accounts with this bank.
Ms. Brzoznowski: Thank you for reaching out and we're sorry there have been past difficulties with the accounts sharing your name. For the issue you speak of, there must have been some confusion on the response, as we were waiting on a reply from you regarding the real estate taxes? Our Branch Manager has reached out again regarding this issue, and we'd like to help you get this issue resolved. Thank you again for the feedback, as we do appreciate you and your membership.

Unsure who she is but the woman who works evenings at the giant city location has a real bad attitude problem. If you don't like your profession and or helping people(your whole job is to smile and help) then leave. Don't treat clients/customers like trash because you are unhappy. I work in customer service. You're the face of a financial institution, make the customer feel heard not push them off with attitude. I do not feel safe or secure having an account at this credit union I will be closing my account in the next few days.
Thank you for sharing. We're sorry you had a bad experience, and we'd like to make it better. Please share more details of your visit with us at 618-457-3595 or [email protected], if you'd be willing?

We have been trying to speak to a loan officer since Friday. It’s now Monday and was told this morning by the loan officer we spoke to, Noah, that he would call back at noon and we still have heard nothing. Friday he said he’d call back in thirty minutes and he never called at all. This is beyond ridiculous and I’m going to lose the vehicle because the loan officers are flaky.
Taylor: Thank you for reaching out. We're sorry for the delay in response and we have notified another team member who will be in touch shortly.

Any time that I have to use siu cu I cringe. I look around for Ashton Kutcher to see if I'm being punked. I bring a deposit slip and cash for a checking deposit. This turns into the teller telling me she can't give me information on the loan. She asks for my license for a checking account cash deposit (fine no problem) then she proceeds to mention my loan again. I have no loan with this company. In fact I only use siu cu for shared banking so both my husband and I can still use our Florida credit unions because this one is so terrible about making mistakes 98% of the time (once in 2 years they didn't make a mistake) that I cringe anytime I have to use them. Maybe me being a retired banker having worked for JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup showed me how great bankers/banking should be. Edit to add response to SIU. You only prove my point. You responded about something I said was not an issue and skirted around what I mentioned to be the issue (constant mistakes being made by employees for the most simple of transactions). No need for you to respond since no one has bothered to care in 2 years when I always inquire what incan do differently to prevent it from happening again I get "um, nothing it should be a pretty easy transaction" yet........accuracy once just once in 2 years is not a good statistic.
JW: Thank you for your feedback, and we're sorry for the inconvenience and some miscommunication about a loan for you with your recent transaction. Verifying with a drivers license is standard procedure for shared banking transactions, and if you'd like to reach out and share some more details on the account at [email protected], we can note these items and make your future experiences better. We're glad you're taking advantage of shared branching in conjunction with your Florida credit unions as well.

I thought I dealt with ignorance trying to pay back student loans, but this place takes the cake. I don’t know what kind of computer system they’re working with, but I suggest they get people working there that actually know how to use it.
Ashley: We're sorry your experience wasn't perfect, and if you'd be willing to share any more details of your transaction with us so we can better help you in the future, please reach out to us at [email protected]. Thank you!

Apparently impossible for students to open a new account. 1. Appointments only. 2. Must apply online using an application form 3. That requires an account number to submit 4. Then wait to be contacted with an approval and an appointment to sign papers 5. That never comes because see #3 See the problem? They apparently don't! Take your business somewhere that wants it.
Thank you for sharing this feedback, and we're sorry you've had difficulty opening a new account. If you're unable to schedule a time to see a representative at https://scheduler.siucu.org/, or applying online, we do have other options available. We could mail you an application and signature card, where you can have it notarized and mail it back. A representative can help you with these details at 618-457-3595 or [email protected].

Put it a mortgage application with SIU. Received a pre-approval amount and was told what information was needed to finalize the amount. After that the loan officer became completely unhelpful. Refused to give us the information we requested, only answered less than half of our questions, refused to take the information we sent her (same info she requested), and refused to tell us how to get what she said she wanted. Also tried to tell us the payment we have on a bill couldn't possibly be that amount. Like we don't know what we pay and to whom. Then refused the OFFICIAL letter from the government we provided for the information she requested! Then after only 2 WEEKS cancelled our mortgage application because we couldn't provide her with non-existent information or information she didn't tell us about or immediately pay off a loan in full. Overall completely confusing, unhelpful and rude. Will not be doing business with them again and will be telling everyone we know to go elsewhere.
Ms. Doolin: We're sorry your experience was negative with our Mortgage Department. Our Mortgage Loan Manager would be happy to discuss in detail why we were unable to qualify you at this time. Please feel free to contact her at 618-457-3960.

One teller inside able to wait on customers. Stood in line 17 minutes meanwhile a women monopolized the one working teller with stories about Donald Trump. Poor service.
Ms. Guetersloh: We're sorry you had a bad experience in our lobby. We, along with many other area businesses, are dealing with staffing issues, and we're working to fill those positions as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.
