    Service First Mortgage Reviews

In the beginning everything was great but unfortunately it did not last. We lost time and money because of an incompetent individual. I was crystal clear about my Financials and was reassured over and over everything was great and what I had to work with was enough. Unfortunately that was not the case. So because of the lack of communication and unprofessional manner of Roger we decided to cancel. This was a very emotional decision and I hope no one has to go through this. I recommend you do your research on the lender you will be using and not go with a lender recommended by your realtor.

Pete and his team were really amazing. They helped make this loan process easy and effortless. I would definitely use them again in the future and would highly recommend them to anyone looking to buy a new home or refinance their existing one

Todd was extremely helpful. He made sure to explain everything every step of the way. Always made himself available rather it be through email, call or text. He made sure to go above and beyond so that our offer was accepted.

I waited over a week to respond to this rating in order to remove the emotional content, therefore what I have to say will be rational and much shorter. What happened to me at SFMC was not due to mean or nasty people. On the contrary, everyone was always pleasant (at least on the surface). What happened was the result of poor communications and the lack of a solid process. A loan almost fell through not due to any financial deficiency, but because a URL was not copied on a document and the Underwriter was requesting items a major financial company deemed ludicrous. Well, we got through it, but only barely. In addition to poor communication, when I mentioned this to SFMC, I was told nothing was wrong, illustrating an unwillingness to change and improve, at least from my viewpoint. What is needed at SFMC is a clear and written list of ALL items required for loan approval, and if the item needs to be in a specific format, then that format needs to be clearly specified. Second, there are always items that are sometimes needed. Put those items in a list so the applicant can be working on them in advance, just in case. Finally provide a portal for the applicant to load all items. This would make it easy to review them with SFMC and jointly (and quickly) highlight any deficiencies. I’ve started successful businesses in the past and consulted on many others. A universal problem that became apparent to me when I saw businesses growing or the market changing was the lack of realization that internal change and process was also mandatory. Not doing so, caused calamity and even failure.

This is by far the worst mortgage company I have ever experienced. I had a loan with them before that was processed with only a few delays and setbacks, but manageable. In the recent past Service First purchased Cendera bank to handle that side of it. Apparently there was a severe lack of knowledge and experience on this side of things. It took 2 1/2 months to actually get to closing with this loan, throughout that time there was an abnormal amount of requests for different information that had already been sent in or irrelevant for the loan. They miscalculated my salary to show my debt to income was way off. Multiple times they said we would probably be closing the next week only to have them call and request some simple information that should have been handled in the application process. At one point we were delayed 2 weeks because their program showed I owned another house in the same town, only to finally figure out it was a completely different first name but the same last name. So if you share a last name with people you don’t know, find a different company. Finally we get to closing 2 weeks ago, thinking the process was finally done….. nope. We are still waiting for access to the funds. When we were in closing we were advised funds would be available the next day so we started construction, now we have contractors stacked up without the ability to pay. Builder is doing all he can but he can’t keep it going and may have to scrap the whole schedule. Of course when you call Service First you can’t reach anyone. And IF you get a call they don’t seem to know what the problem is and blame it on another entity. This is by far the most unprofessional, unorganized, and ill-prepared company I have ever dealt with. If you are on any kind of timeline to get access to funds DO NOT use this company. I honestly don’t know how they can hand out any commissions over this debacle. It should be an embarrassment for this company. I would encourage anyone reading to take this review to heart, as I wish I would have seen a review like this before using.

My husband and I had such a great experience working with The Wilson Team. Everyone we came in contact with was professional, prompt and knowledgeable. They explained the whole process and very patiently answered all of our first time home buyer questions. We knew we were in good hands from the beginning. I do have to brag specifically on Lauren though. She was just incredible to both my husband and I. She took the time to call me on a Saturday evening to help talk me through a hiccup that came up last minute. She really went above and beyond on every front during the process. Thank you Lauren, Jared and everyone else at service first who came in contact with us and our loan. You made this process enjoyable and pain free!

If I could give this place negative 5 I would... Where do I start.... Horrible customer service skills. Zero communication throughout the process. Had to pretty much call over and over to get someone to answer questions. Stephanie is who we dealt with and let me tell you. Not bright. She costed us a point because she didn't listen when we told her to lock in. She decided to wait. We just closed today, and she had all the paperwork screwed up. Down payment information was wrong, she had no idea we already wired money after email and more emails telling her what's going on.... They made this one of the worst dealings with a company I have ever had. ALL I CAN SAY IS RUN FROM THIS PLACE!!!!! AND YES I HAVE ALL EMAILS TO BACK THIS UP.

Communication is key. I have not worked with a mortgage provider that handled the details like Travis did. He removed the stress and nailed the hard parts. Our project was unique and presented challenges. Travis never let us feel it. Even on the closing day when details shifted, it was zero stress.

Pete was great. As always, I tend to panic and make irrational calls when not necessary. My wife and I purchased our retirement home in Texas, while still living in our current state. Being a second home, the process was a little more complicated than buying a principal residence. Pete was on top of everything all the way through the process. He made us feel we had nothing to worry about, which is almost a miracle for me. I am not sure we would have been able to secure this property for our retirement years had it not been for Pete.

If I could give negative zero stars I would. I am so disappointed in Roger and Service First Mortgage. I don't know how he is in this line of work. No self conscious whatsoever. Would not recommend at all.
