RE/MAX Alliance Reviews

Traci Lewis Vancamp served as our property manager for a year. She is extremely difficult, if not impossible to get in touch with. Her attention to detail is lacking. Our rental home was covered in old holes, hanging hardware, and uneven paint to name a few things. Even though we noted the condition of the home in detail on our move-in inspection form, she deducted these repairs from our security deposit. Our ceiling developed a hole that got progressively worse over time, and it took weeks and numerous attempts to reach her before we received a response. I do not recommend working with Traci or this office in general. Anytime we would attempt to contact the office, our concerns were dismissed or ignored. The secretary’s only suggestion was to continue attempting to contact Traci in the ways that we had been. There appears to be no accountability for their customers’ dissatisfaction.

Jackie Ellis Dunbar has been my agent purchasing two homes. Steve and Jackie and their team have managed a rental property for us since 2008. I have always been treated fair and respectfully. Her team is responsive to any issues that arise. I would highly recommend them whether purchasing a home or needing a rental managed!
Thank you!

If you're like me, buying or renting a home is a very confusing and stressful endeavor. Jackie Ellis Dunbar has helped me purchase two homes in the past 10-years and has walked me through every step of the way. Her knowledge of the area's Real-Estate, best schools, the loan process (which is a nightmare for me) home inspections, insurance agencies and the protocol of viewing properties and Best Practices for renting or selling your home is exceptional. I have always appreciated her professionalism, dedication and patients with me. I recommend Jackie & Steve Dunbar Real-Estate Team to anyone who needs support in either buying or renting a home.
Thank you for your review. We are so glad you had a positive experience working with us!

I’ve worked with the Re/Max alliance team now for over seven years as my property management service. They have always returned my calls immediately, screened tenants efficiently and work quickly to resolve any maintenance issues with my tenants. I enjoy peace of mind knowing that my property and tenants are well taken care of!
Thank you!

Where do I begin, Jackie and her husband Steven where my property managers when I owned a home in the Wards Corner, Rose Garden area of Norfolk. As property managers, they did an awesome job of finding the right tenants and managing the property. When I decided to sell my house, Jackie Dunbar got me the full asking price for the property and it was only on the market less than a week. She made selling process quick and painless, by keeping me informed and ensuring the paperwork was completed in a timely manner. They have a great team of staff, maintenance and repair people that do phenomenal work. I believe that the lucky new owners are getting a better home than what I received when I first bought the place. It’s ashamed that I didn’t have Jackie as my agent during that time. I could not recommend anyone better for the job of selling or buying a home. She is FANTASTIC!

You really couldn't find a bigger group of thieves .Once a realtor changed the price of the house,, taking the 13,000 discount offered by the seller for numerous repairs and breakdowns, then he claims to have flipped it But he had never bought the house at that time.He didn't own the property to change the price. He did it to pocket 13,000. To go with the 18,000 he was making at a highly inflated interest rate for financing the house for 3 yrs. So , making 31,000., Or 24% commission Incredible!!.Always use cap center and leave alone fraudulant companies operating under a big shot name .DONT GET BURNED!!BTW.Do not trust the Peninsula Realty Association either, they're the ones covering for these greedy people.!
Mr. Trent, I am sorry that you haven’t had a good real estate experience but it looks like you are reviewing the wrong company. We have no record of your transaction and you mentioned the Peninsula REALTOR Association and we are not affiliated with them. Feel free to contact me and we can discuss how to get in touch with someone that can assist you.

They have managed my property since 2013. Never had an issue until the new management. They canceled my contract without a 60 day notice and have left me with zero information to get my rent for next month. Since the change in management , the quality of service has declined rapidly. I have complained about the condition of my property several times over the past several months. My concerns have been ignored. The condition of my property has gotten worse. I called the office to complain, I was treated as if I was bothering them. My frustration level got high, words were said. Not my finest hour. I feel it is not too much to ask that they fulfill their end of the contract. I do. I fix anything broken immediately; I have improved the quality of my home between every tenant. Last year I spent thousands of dollars having a tree removed and new privacy fence put up. No one asked me to do this. I noticed how large the tree got and the fence being compromised. My tenants have a dog, I elected to spend the money. I am an owner who cares. They could not tell me the last time they drove by my property and physically looked at it. Had they; my concerns would have been seen immediately. The grass is knee high; there is debris in the driveway. I was given no reason for the cancellation. I assume it was my “foul” language. Well, considering the work ethic of this company; it is not the first time someone cussed at them and it won’t be the last. If I could give them a negative score, I would.
I am sorry you were not happy with our property management services but you were given a reason for the termination of services. It is our intention to discuss any and all concerns with our clients in a calm and professional conversation. I understand you used vile and degrading language that can only be interpreted to indicate you had no intention of having a calm and professional conversation. Sometimes it becomes clear that an arrangement is just not a good fit, this seems to be the case. I understand the team is coordinating with you to make other arrangements. We never want to work with a client that treats our staff members so poorly. -- Eric Hovik

In an effort to forewarn the community (HUD Form 903 Complaint pending)... My husband and I came to Remax with a rave review from our previous property (lived there for five years and unfortunately were forced to look elsewhere after a flood). The property we found and moved into after signing our paperwork with Remax was perfect - communication for the most part was consistently positive though I think some standard updates/cleanliness could have been better upon moving in (paint job, new carpets, that sort of thing). We lived there for almost five years and treated the place as if it were our own. Upon move out (though there were two repairs we took care of - carpet + counter), the majority of the process was terrible. 1) They were showing the condo in the midst of COVID while we were still living there. We had no say in whether or not we were comfortable with it. 2) Money was taken from our security deposit for, word for word: dust on window sill, finger print on light switch, stain on laundry door, dust on shelf, dirty fan blade. During our time there the condo flooded not once, but twice. Our thermostat sparked and conked out not once but twice, our storm door was broken for about six months, and our washing machine broke 3-4x a year all of which took several attempts to resolve so of course we were surprised with a hit for "dust on a window sill". 3) On top of it all, I was incredibly surprised that they moved in new tenants within 24 hours of us moving out, ESPECIALLY during COVID. There was no paint updates, no carpet replacement, no standard home improvements between tenants (after a 4-5 year long residency) and zero effort to sanitize the property, yet we were charged for not wiping a fingerprint off of a light switch. Thank goodness for home ownership and never having to deal with this again!
Ms. Casey I am sorry to hear that you feel your experience renting from us was not a good one. As you can imagine, there are always 2 sides to every story and I invite you to come to the office to discuss the situation further. I am happy to share the communication log and photos during your tenancy and your move out inspection. These photos seems to indicate some of the tasks required for a successful move out inspection were not performed. You can reach me during business hours at the office. -- Kathy Eckhardt, Managing Broker 757-456-2345

Remax acts as a property manager for owners. Steve and Jackie Dunbar managed my property for 4-5 years. I had nothing but problems. Unprofessional, argumentative, used family members to provide inferior repairs, and neglected basic things responsibilities of the job such as property inspections. During their property "management" a tree grow up within inches to the house and under the foundation. This tree caused significant damage to the property and caused my homeowners insurance to send me a cancellation notice pending removal of the tree. The team argued with me that broken ceramic tile was normal wear and tear. Other reviewers convey that home repair contractors were paying kick-backs to ReMax at the owners expsense. I suspected behavior like that for many years.
See response below from The Dunbar Team: Dear Mr. Laabs, In response to your recent complaint I would like to point out that we have not managed your property since August of 2016. When we gave your property back to you we asked that you give us a discrepancy list within 5 days of any items you felt needed attention. We did a little digging and found the list, at no time did you mention the tree or asking for it to be removed. You had another property manager after we managed the property so I can only assume the tree was still not addressed and it grew larger and caused the foundation issues. We feel badly for you that you have to go through the frustration with your insurance. I do not know how we are at fault in the situation, we are not professional landscaping servicers and do not know which trees are root bound or grow down instead of out. You mentioned that we were argumentative, I only know of one disagreement that we had, concerning the tile in the foyer. Our flooring person told us that it was the tile installation that caused the issue and not a tenant cracking the tile. I politely asked if you could get a vendor to write something stating that it could be the tenants doing. Please see my response : Hi Chris, What you send can’t work and we are not considered experts. I will tell you that in this area we have a very high water table which creates movement. The concrete becomes unleveled and causes cracks. We see this frequently so in this area we see concrete board that is more level used on concrete floor, it also provides a porous finish. If you can get a flooring installer to write up the reason the tile cracked was from abuse then we will charge the tenants. We will need proof that they caused the damage. We are not trying to be difficult but we have to do the right thing. Thank You, Jackie We must consider protecting you as an owner should the tenant decide to sue us in court. We have to have out “ducks in a row” so to speak. Unfortunately you did not supply anything from a vendor, so we could not charge the tenant. You mentioned that we hire family members to do repairs? We do not have any family members that are in trade businesses so I not sure where you got that idea? We use a yardman named Earnest Dunbar, I can assure you we share the same last name but he is African American and we are Caucasian, we have not had any complaints about his work. He would not take down a tree unless he was given permission. We do not take any money from vendors for the work they do on anybody’s home. We have a strict policy against this sort of thing and would not accept money if offered. The most we accept are fruit baskets and candy during Christmas. Finally we take great pride in our work and strive to take care of the properties under our watch. I do not show any time during our management that you went a month without rent! We wish you the all the best and hope you find a reasonable solution and insurance company.

Mark Jaworski made our renting experience really quick. The rental property was literally advertised at Trulia that morning when we have received the email and we had called and applied for the place after looking at it online. We were approved by the time we did a viewing for the property immediately on the same day. We are so thankful for Mr. Jaworski for keeping up with us as we were in a rush to get a new place that fits our needs because it wasn't healthy for us to keep staying with our old roommate as time kept passing by. Re/max is not managing the property we have rented but we are beyond thankful for having worked with Mr. Jaworski at a short period of time in order to lock in on this property fast!

Head broker explicitly said “we deal with navy jag all the time” when I came to her with a concern about Susan Jubilee, the property manager for the townhome we were renting. Truly the worst experience of my life, my husband and I only rented for 6 months before we broke our 2 year lease with them because of the negligence and poor attitude and communication. When I contacted the property manager about a problem that didn’t get fixed and still wasn’t fixed when we moved out, she yelled at me and said “your attitude is gonna get you in trouble and your husband is gonna have to pay for it in the future, as a new navy wife, you should be more careful”. It took 2 months for them to fix a crack in the ceiling due to water damage, anytime it would rain outside, it would rain inside the home. Also took her 1 month to fix the AC in the peak of summer, it was 96 degrees in the townhome during that time. They will also dodge every form of communication and will not return a call. I will never rent again! We moved into the worst conditions, the stove top was cracked, the carpet had a thick hard patch until they replaced it, the dryer was broken, the privacy fence was falling down and the upstairs window didn’t close all the way. Whatever you do, DO NOT deal with them. You truly see and understand their poor rating after dealing with them.
Ms. Schoonover, I am sorry you feel your experience with RE/MAX Alliance wasn’t pleasant and I invite you to come to the office to discuss this further. As you said in your review, you broke your lease and proceeded to purchase a home. As far as repairs, sometimes repairs take longer due to many factors such as vendor or tenant availability as well as needed parts. Again, I offer you the opportunity to come into the office and discuss your experience. Please call the office and make an appointment that is convenient to you.
