Brought a good amount of sterling coins in to sell ( 72 ounces ) Was given the gram price @$0.68 as opposed to the pennyweight price @$1.17. Shame on me for expecting a pawn shop to be honest. Be weary and do your homework. I tried bringing these discrepancies to the gentleman I dealt with but he insisted $0.68 was the pennyweight price.
Hi Michael. We apologize as there seems to be some misunderstanding with this transaction. Upon review, the price you sold the coins was correctly quoted in pennyweights. Please note that the spot price for silver is for pure silver and thus does not account for the various purity levels. There are many purity levels of coins/silver, similar to varying purity levels of gold such as 10k, 14k, and 18k. Also, there are many factors that contribute to the final price, such as costs/expenses to run the business, rent, salary and other deductions from vendors. A simpler example to understand would be to relate this to a retail transaction. If a retail store purchased an item at a cost of $100, they could not sell it at their cost of $100 as they would not be able to cover their expenses, thus not be able to operate their store. It’s the same concept. All business needs to cover their overhead. We would love the opportunity to explain to you in person Michael as we would not want this misunderstanding to go unresolved. We have been part of the Staten Island community for over 30 years and we value our customers as well as our reputation. All of which are very important to us. We have held onto the items you have sold in order to have the opportunity to discuss with you in person, also to give you the chance to retrieve your items if you are not satisfied with your sale.
