Office of Student Financial Aid Reviews

The service you get strongly depends on who happens to answer the phone when you call. The last few times I've called to try and get help with an issue dealing with my financial aid, the service was actually horrible. The staff members I've spoken to have taken up excessively rude tones and been extremely unhelpful. It did not seem like anyone actually cared to help me resolve the issue at all. However, some of the staff members have been extremely helpful and kind at other times. It really just depends on your luck and who you are able to speak to (if you're able to speak to anyone at all)

Reform in customer service is direly needed. I would recommend the state look into hiring process and the current personnel to ensure only friendly staff stays working. Conduct and off-putting tone of speech used by reps should not be condoned at any level.

When I called I was helped by a very nice young man who was able to inform me of what I needed and to even transferred me to the correct office that I needed to reach! I’ve had some less helpful experiences over the phone (which is why I’m leaving 4 stars) but all my in person visits were very helpful!

After countless encounters with unfriendly staff that refuse to help, alongside the rudest phone call I’ve ever experienced, I’ve come to the conclusion that this office needs an almost completely new staff! Horrible and incredibly rude to students and parents alike! However, there is one young man who has been the only one willing to help me in any situation. He is the only reason this place gets ANY stars. As an upcoming student at UIUC, going into this building always makes me feel terrible and I have yet to even begin my UIUC journey.

They act like it's a problem to go in and ask questions. They always asked me, "well did you look online already before you came here." It seems they are always busy and in a rush but when you call them on the phone they don't answer or your on hold for 30+ minutes.

The customer service was amazing. Erin walked me through step by step everything that I needed to do. Very helpful and stress relieving.

Speaking as a senior who has dealt with them for 3 years, including before transferring, it can be very hit or miss depending on who you get. Some are less than useless and rude, others help you the best that they can. But at it's heart, the people you have on the phone are not in charge of the delays you experience, those bureaucrats hide behind the support staff like cowards. They want you to take out your anger on the support people, not them. Be respectful to the staff and apply for financial aid early for best results.

Trying to get help from these guys is as easy as putting all the toothpaste back in the tube. It's not very easy to get ahold of anyone with answers, and harder yet to get answers that are correct and understandable. If you're understaffed, or realize that the hold time for the phone is typically near an hour, for months on end, there's probably an alternate solution that could be used... We're a higher education institution, we could figure this out, right?

This is the worse!!! All I get is an answer machine that keeps hanging up on me. I go to schedule an appointment and the link just takes me back to instructions on how to set an appointment. So it’s impossible to get someone to answer the phone and impossible to set up an appointment with someone

if i could give zero stars for this place i would. This is by far the worst place to ever get any sort of help. the staff is rude and they are clueless when it comes to answering any sort of question. Ive been trying to call for the past 20 minutes, but someone just keeps answering the phone and hanging up repeatedly. by far a disgrace for the university.
