Mahwah Honda Pre-Owned, Service and Parts Reviews

This all starts with my amazing new car buying experience at the dealership. At 4 months and less than 1,000 miles (Pandemic, working from home nearly every day), I was concerned to hear a knocking noise coming from the front of the car. Allow me to explain: NJ roads (I have yet to leave NJ with this car) are horrible. In fact, since I bought the car, I made no less than 4 trips an hour away to Morris county (I'm in Bergen) because my favorite diner and ice cream place are there. It was on a return trip to the diner I noticed the noise. Being an old hand at used cars, I immediately thought 'problem with the rocker bars.' That's understandable with the conditions of the roads I was travelling on. I was surprised it happened so quickly. On my return home, I was resolving to contact service and was prepared to engage in a sternly worded exchange along the lines of 'Now, see here, this car has less than 1,000 miles on it and I haven't been offroading with it!' I made an appointment. Understand, this was April 2021. Pandemic in full swing. Working from home pretty much exclusively at that point. Appointment was made, and I must say, the whole setup to where you have to go and where to stop or park your car is bewildering. I won't ding them a star but I wish they made that more clear to a first timer like me. I got all that sorted and walked in, and found someone to help me. I didn't catch her name, but in case she's the only woman there, that's who it was (sorry for not remembering, woman who helped me!). They say the worst patients in the world are doctors. I'm not a mechanic, but I've been through enough car problems that I thought I knew what the problem was. But I said none of this. All I said was, knocking sound on slight bumps, front end, worse on the driver's side, more noticeable on left hand turns. I was directed where to put the car and where to park my rump (my words, not theirs). Whenever I go to a garage or service center, I make sure I have time to sit there and wait. For everyone who says 'who has the time to sit there and wait,' well, I'm that person. Yes, I'd definitely want a loaner if something was extensive, but I hadn't requested one, and my phone was charged, and they have a water cooler, so I didn't mind the 3 to 4 hour wait. Your experience might vary based on your life. When all was said and done, to my complete non-surprise, some nuts on the rocker bars needed to be tightened, which they did. I was now preparing for the 'now you listen to me' and 'less than 1000 miles' fight I was sure was going to happen. $0. I don't know if it's because it was a new car under warranty, I don't know if it was because hey, tighten some nuts and done. It's my fault I had so much anxiety about that ending, but the relief I felt as I drove away was pretty much worth the result. Kudos to the staff at the service center - while I hope I won't have to see you often, I'm glad for the time I did!
Thank you for taking the time to leave an in-depth review. We are thrilled to see that we exceeded your expectations. We look forward to working with you again!

Mahwah Honda on Franklin Tpke used to be the only location, showroom and service. Now it is service and used vehicle showroom. Service check in is quick, efficient. Service rates at any brand are expensive, but they do good work.

Really professional people, My problem is they are over priced, Spent 1600 with coupons on a normal visit, 1600.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! Repair bill in one day. Spoke to HQ Honda they advised me to go to another dealership/Service department.
남
Dont go to this dealer shop. Dealer talked on the phone with price never happen and raise price when you present there. Dont spend your precious time there. No wonder no customer around this shop.
Thank you for taking the time to review our dealership. We apologize for any confusion or miscommunication during your recent visit. We would like the chance to speak with you to work towards a resolution. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to me directly. I look forward to speaking with you. -Alex Brischler, General Sales Manager, 201-574-1078

Please Beware of this dealers service department! My husband and I recently privately purchased a used 2017 Honda CR-V for my mom who is a new driver at the age of 62. The SUV has 37,000 miles on it and had a previous accident before we bought it, for which repairs were done. It has a 5 year 60,000 mile factory drivetrain warranty. Shortly after we got the car, we had a transmission problem and had the car towed to Mahwah Honda, which is close to our home. After a couple of days of checking out the car, we got a call from Paul (a service manager) who told my husband that the transmission was gone. When my husband asked about the transmission being covered by the factory drivetrain warranty, Paul told him: ABOLUTELY NOT! He went on to relate the transmission problem with the accident and blamed the problem on “neglect”, meanwhile maintenance records show that the car has always been serviced and maintained by authorized Honda dealers. Paul wasn’t interested in any of this and his comment was that “it wasn’t serviced here”. He went on to tell my husband that he could help us out with the repair for $5000, but warranty repairs were out of the question. When my husband told him that Honda maintained the car and was even brought to the dealer for a recent possible transmission complaint, which wasn’t diagnosed (see the Honda dealer’s notes), he wasn’t interested. It was obvious that Mahwah Honda wasn’t going to even try to help us out with our warranty issue and was more interested in doing a very expensive out of pocket repair because this would be a lot more profitable. We contacted Honda corporate but they just called this dealer and were immediately told that the vehicle shouldn’t be covered under warranty and told Honda Corporate that the vehicle had issues which we later found out didn’t exist. When we called the dealer back after getting no help from Honda Corporate and told Paul we were not going to spend $5000 now to fix the car, we were told that the car should be picked up (towed away) right away because there is no room on the lot. The car was subsequently towed to a transmission specialist and the repairs were performed (out of pocket) for 35% less than the dealer price. We were told by two transmission shops that the repairs should have been covered under warranty especially since the car was always maintained by Honda dealers, who obviously didn’t check the transmission and fluids during their “multipoint” inspection. Prior to writing this review, we attempted to call the phone numbers given to the many people on the Internet who had unpleasant experiences with this dealer. To our surprise, no one picks up the phone or calls back at one number and the other number does not seem to work at all. Obviously, the polite apologies after these reviews are meant for the readers not for t he people having the problem with their service. I can completely sympathize with Daniel G. who left a review on Yelp on 10/21/19 about not getting any help from Mahwah Honda with his broken CR-V transmission and being exasperated with his situation only to receive a hollow apology after he wrote a review. My husband has been very upset with the extremely poor customer service by Mahwah Honda, Paul the service manager and Honda Corporate. He plans to share this experience and warn literally thousands of his local clients about the poor treatment we received by Mahwah Honda. Will we ever use the services of Mahwah Honda again? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Will we go back to Mahwah Honda when we are ready to buy my mom a new car – ABSIOLUTELY NOT! Wish we had gone to a different dealer or at least dealer with a more understanding service manger. If you go to Mahwah Honda, Good luck!
We understand the outcome of your situation was unfortunate. However, we did everything we could behind the scenes to try to get the transmission replaced. Due to the circumstances of where the vehicle was purchased (not a Honda-authorized dealer) and the accident, Honda would not authorize the repair. If you have any questions please contact me directly. -- Matt Decicco, Service Manager, 201-574-1188.

My experience with service has always been awesome. Mind you this is a late day visit, which almost everyone is gone for the day. Kudos to service advisor who went above and beyond on what is required of him. He paid attention to my concerns with the vehicle and took his time to iron out any confusions. The following day, this service advisor did his due diligence to check with me and ensure that I am well taken care of. This experience had given me the opportunity to trust and value Mahwah Honda service. Overall. I am overjoyed for the extended effort and professionalism by this Service advisor. Great Job E.C.!!!
Hydreck, thank you for the great review! We are happy that we were able to assist you and provide a positive experience during your visit. Thank you for choosing Mahwah Honda!

This review is for selling my used car. I was very happy with the experience and received a very fair price. John was kind and quick, and even held the check for me for almost a month when I was out of the country and couldn’t cash it after the sale. Thanks John!
Xan, reviews like this truly go a long way! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

Very dishonest pricing and professionalism. They tried to charge my brother $80 for an air filter plus installation at the service desk(they are $10 online for a Bosch filter/$25 for OEM), but when I ask the parts desk the price they told me it was $36. They also said he would need to be charged a $40 tire rotation fee when requesting new tires. You do not rotate new tires. If they are cheating people on simple things like air filters and tires, I am scared to see what they are doing to others with serious repairs.

It is upsetting when you bring your car to check for something that is going wrong. And your told that it isn’t leaking. I’ve brought it to this location a couple times and every time it was the same answer, no it’s not leaking transmission fluid. So I got frustrated and took it to a friend and sure enough the transmission was leaking the whole time. How can they not see it that it was leaking the entire time even being brought to this location. But when I brought it outside to a friend he showed me it’s been leaking from the time I brought it to Honda to check out. It’s frustrating when the parts service doubts you and you go else where and they see it’s leaking. Yet the car was under warranty when I brought it to Honda parts but to me they didn’t do their job that great.

Very very pricey. Takes forever to even do a simple oil change. Staff aren’t especially kind. Don’t recommend.

I brought my car for the second time to repair the radio. It’s crackling so obviously the connectors or the radio itself is broken. Happens on all channels. And when I picked up my car the front windshield on the drivers side (right down the middle in the line of vision) was cracked. After the Service Manager Matt went off and looked at videos ( this was a stalling factor because the car was checked in by the service manager and the crack was not there or noted). After 15 minutes he came back and said he couldn’t find any footage of when this happened on their site - and said he wasn’t fixing the crack. So I left very frustrated. And I was not in the car 5 minutes and the radio started crackling worse than ever. And the worst part neither Michael the Service person that checked in our car or his boss Matt would answer the phone when I tried calling back to tell them the radio is worse than ever. So in summary I brought the car to have the radio fixed once and for all. And it’s worse and now I have a cracked windshield. And no one took responsibility for any day f this.

I am not one to go to the dealer, but have a 2020 Honda crv, the service was excellent. Booked on line,Saturday appointments available, prices are very competitive. Recommended by my father in law. Very impressed.
Jim, reviews like this truly go a long way. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience!

Rip off!! All they care is about how they can charge you! The mirror of my brand new Honda fell off, the glue behind the glass just came unstuck. But the service desk refused to fix it for free because "it's impossible that it just fell off"... So much for the Honda warranty.

I just got our 5th Honda from Rob Fazio Jr. at Mahwah Honda. A fully loaded certified Accord, exactly what I needed. He put me in exactly what I seeked and then some. We don't need to go anywhere else ever, that's exactly how we feel when it comes to Rob and the team at Mahwah Honda. Shoutout to all of you for helping entertain our almost 7 year old boy, he loved being a part of the process

Oil change is a good price compared to most dealers the tire rotation was a rip off it like any other dealer the adult kind of fees. So it end up $5 more

Since I gave them a one star resting in the area of making an appointment. I drove into the service department without an appointment for the Honda recall. The rep was very courteous and helpful. He took my car in and had the recall work done promptly while we waited.
We are glad to see that your visit at our dealership went well. It gives us a great sense of pride that we were able to help you! Have a wonderful day, Anil.

We took our 3 month old 2021 Honda Passport in for service. We keep hearing a squeaky noise in the tires. At first they said they don’t see anything so we took them for a ride and they acknowledged that they hear the noise. The associate that helped us was extremely rude and unprofessional from the beginning. He put all the blame on us and said he found mud in the tires and it’s our fault. The car has a freaking mud option in the in the event that one does go off roading which we never did. He yelled at us and said next time he will charge us for any service in the future wether it is covered under warranty or not. I will be reaching out to Honda corporate office today as well. Rude people with horrible attitude who only care about making money. I will never return.

I have used this Honda service department for years and never been disappointed with any of my repairs. They are complete professionals, especially my most recent Service Advisor, Ben Rosario. He was very patient and extremely thorough in his explanation of the repairs to me for my Honda Fit. The only thing is that the repairs are not cheap so I have to pick and choose what I can afford to get done. This is the place to go if you want your car fixed right the first time.

Bought a 2018 Honda Pilot last year pre owned from Mahwah Honda. They repainted the back bumper and whatever coating they gave it started to bubble after a few months. Plus with less then a year of owning it the transmission light came on while driving from NY to Florida. Transmission running hot apparently. Had to flush the entire transmission fluid per the Honda dealership in Florida. Well only a few months later the transmission light is on again and apparently it is a torque converter issue. I will never buy from Honda Pre-Owned again. Its been nothing but headaches.
