Heres my story. In 2015 I bought my first car 2012 honda civic for 18,713 at 12.75%APR at Carmax in Tucson. 3 years go by, I wanted to refinance due to the Interest. So I called credit union west to refinance. Carmax payoff quote on 9/15/18 was exactly 10,815. I requested to refinance at 11,500. In hope of getting some cash back or a check just for the heck of it. She called me back half an hour later and declined. I said okay. How about 11k even? Another 30 minutes and she declined again. I gave up. I just wanted to finance at my payoff quote. She said cant do that either. She said she has to finance at 11,500 but she cant do any cash back or anything like that. I got frustrated and upset. I gave up. Nothing I could do. So I was forced to go with it if I wanted 6% interest. At the same time I lost 700 bucks on the principal of my loan to get a better rate. Ive fought and fought and fought with them about fixing this. They wont fix it for me. Today, march 2020. Current balance is 9300 and my car has 130k miles but its okay because ive rebuilt the engine myself. Awesome. 5 years later. Only paid half the car off. Hopefully another 5 to 6 years to pay it off with 130k miles. So my principal balance is 700 more than it should be at a 12 to 15 year loan with a 760 FICO and 690 for the other 2 scores. I might as well make it a home loan and make it a 30 year loan. Still trying to figure out how people get that 3 to 5 percent interest. Must have all perfect scores.
