We've gotten divorce and child custody work from Ascent Law since the beginning because of my ex. We love this divorce firm! Staff is gentle, friendly and skilled. Tanya knows her stuff. Nicole is good and Ryan is fun. Really, all the staff here are careful, kind and flexible. They always answer all my questions, explain what they're doing and provide great legal services. I personally think they are the best for divorce in Utah.

Mike Anderson and his colleagues & staff are knowledgeable, attentive and caring. In a difficult and complex case that eventually went to trial, Mike was the voice of reason and the confidence I needed. His courtroom abilities are amazing and I felt his defense of me was incredible. His quick thinking and expertise allowed for a positive result when I felt the World was crumbling. I am a mortgage loan officer and I reached out to Ryan at Ascent Law because I had found good information about him online. Lucas, from his team, called and helped answer some questions I had regarding bankruptcy. I asked questions to become more educated to help my clients that face hardship and may need to file bankruptcy, and they were very good and helping me understand different reasons for filing even though I was not looking to file. They are very kind and knowledgeable. I highly recommend!

Ryan was a savior at my moment in need. I started my child custody case by myself and didn’t work so good with the other party wanted to have a deposition and I would have been screwed. My girlfriend found Ryan and he worked with me on my case and was able to get me sole custody of my son with other party only having some visitation. I wasn't sure where to get a legal separation instead of a divorce in Utah. Love was still there and wanted to live apart but was hoping for charge and marriage therapy to work. Long story short, they told me the difference between divorce and legal separation. they went over child custody, sole custody, etc. They even knew how a business would be divided and went over all costs of divorce and the disadvantages of legal separation. Lucas was so nice not to mention Gretchen.

Brent Blanchard represented me in a case. He was the absolute worst, he would get me confused with other clients, billed me for other clients, and on our court date was not prepared and did not submit the paperwork the judge had asked for. Causing a huge waste of time and money. After he acted like he had no idea what had happened and sent me a snarky email, I then called and got ahold of him (which is not easy) and he told me he had mistaken me for another client. AGAIN. I asked him to get things sorted so we could close my case, he said he was taking a lunch. And then the next day he withdrew from my case. Leaving me high and dry. And would not give me an explanation as to why he did this. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!

I read about Ryan and Mike online and realized that these folks cared about their clients.  I make a good choice.  They fought for me in my business litigation case. I even had to appeal to get the correct result but these guys are good trial attorneys. Thank you.

I've worked with lawyers in he past but never have I had such a distasteful experience before. Alex Scherf was assigned to us and we were told that he was a expert at matters reguarding DCFS. We found out later that Alex had only been assigned to do DCFS cases for the past 7 months and was previously a government prosecutor for the city of Salt Lake, still using the government email address. We would ask him very general questions about court procedures in DCFS cases and Alex said he didnt know. Alex drained our retainer within less than a month of $500 and did none of the tasks asked of him which was also reflected in our statements. He did not forward us any of the required court orders or paperwork for us to reffer to. He was also incredibly rude to my wife on several occasions and made her cry due to his refusal to help us. The office manager is also increadibly unprofessional. He promised us a full refund of our retainer due to Alex not finishing his work but only ended up giving us back $90 out of the $5000 promised. I would steer clear of this firm in ANY situation.

I had quite a traumatic experience from working with this firm. Alex Scherf from Ascent represented us for only 3 weeks and in that time he blew through our entire $5000 retainer and put our case into an horrible, heart breaking predicament that put our entire family into various harmful situations. He is not a DCFS expert as he and Ascent Law claim him to be. He is decieptful about the amount of experience and knowledge he actually had about the juvinille justice system and the amount of work he actually did. He was insulting and dictator like in the way his handled the case. He dismissed our personal wishes and faced to come up with a defense for us whatsoever even after we had him speak to other attorneys about our case to try and help him understand what was needed on this case. The office staff were rude and unhelpful. The office manager refused to do anything about Alex's behavior and lied to us on top of it. All in all in was a terrible experience that I wouldn't wish on any family.

I worked with Alex and he did a fantastic job with my case and answered all my questions and got me updated quickly. He also guided me on my case to the perfect outcome. Couldn’t be happier with the work he did.

I was so frustrated with my prior attorney that I spoke with Alex at Ascent Law. He was so nice to me and helped me understand my Utah probate case and helped move it forward.

I had a question about whether alimony could be increased after divorce and how alimony worded and if it was calculated on husband's disability. Ascent Law answered my divorce questions an was able to tell me how to get child support and alimony when I wasn't sure it was possible.

I will repeat my review on every site possible about this gem of a firm! I, unfortunately, must do a bankruptcy. I absolutely don't want to but unfortunate events in life makes it necessary. I found Ascent Law on google as I searched for an attorney. They were automatically very helpful, respectful, understanding, and easy to feel safe with. They weren't the first I called but I will say 100% that all my first calls to other attorneys scared me! I thought I wouldn't be able to do it as I'm on a very low income status at this time due to medical issues and all others wanted more than I could dream of being able to afford. When I called Ascent, they were so nice. Honest, and not an unreasonable price. As I am taking my slow time getting together my paperwork needed they gave been very patient and understanding. No judgment at all. Each staff member I have had the pleasure of speaking to has been so nice, especially during these crazy times in life right now. This pandemic had made beasts out of the best of us, but even with my special circumstances, that I'm sure would irritate anyone, I have never been belittled or made to feel any type of negative way. Let me state an important fact: I am 100% disabled. I'm blind, I have dementia, and a very Traumatic Brain Injury. So I'm not an easy person to deal with. Most people would gladly dust me off and shew me away. But NOT these people! Which is such a glorious thing to say for anyone with a disability! If your disabled like me, Have no fear, Ascent Law is definitely here... It has been pleasure finding Ascent Law! I will continue my case to the fullest. And I will recommend then to anyone needing to locate an attorney for this type of situation. My journey isn't close to being over yet. (No one's fault but mine.) We finishing this together! I’m so lucky. I paid them 500 dollars for them to review a document. The lawyer didn’t read the document and gave me bad advice. I’m lucky I didn’t listen. Then they offered me a half refund but the office manager was worried I would go to the bar so he hung up on me. Now I actually AM going to go to the bar 😂 with an audio recording of the consultation.

I called in for questions on my divorce decree. Josh was amazing at answering my questions and doing everything he could to help me out! I appreciated him going above and beyond for me when I wasn't even a retained client.

This review is well deserved for Ryan and Josh. New clients should know they are worth the 5 star rating we give them. We needed 2 sessions from them because of the complexity of the matter, but they are both very passionate about his helping others in need.  My sister needed bankruptcy and I needed divorce.  Sometimes they go hand in hand but a large shout out to this team - also Nicole is one of the sweetest people you ever did meet - she offered me warm cookies!

I worked with Attorney Alex and Paralegal Ami in my divorce case. I got to know the team very well over the course of two years. I cannot think of a better team to have worked with. Ami and Alex are not only exceptional law professions who are very knowledgeable and thorough, they are also the best human beings who empathize with the emotions I was experiencing. Alex was conscious of my budget and worked efficiently to try to reduce unnecessary legal expenses. My case also involved some dealings with a foreign country that Alex and his team had previously dealt with.  They did an amazing job addressing cultural barriers in a very respectful manner and did not fall short in quality of work or in standards when dealing with some of these new challenges. Ami deserves a medal for being extremely professional, calming, and compassionate when it is needed most.  When you need family law attorneys, call this firm. I now feel I can move forward with grace and dignity.

I found myself in a jam in Salt Lake last year while traveling through the airport. I contacted Ascent Law to defend me and they were able to help me have the charges dropped and took care of me and answered all of my questions throughput the entire process! I hope to not have to hire legal defense in the future but if I do and It just so happens to be needed in utah, I will be calling ascent law again for sure!

I’m not the type of person to leave a review, but when you get a wage garnishment, you’re looking at foreclosure because of the recession and inflation, you’re considering filing a chapter 13 bankruptcy to keep your home or even worse, a chapter 7 bankruptcy – I’m so glad I talked to Ryan. He’s saved my bacon and more! He really took care of me and will go out the way to make you feeling like you’re going to survive this crisis. I recommend this place to anyone who needs legal help.

Please do yourself a favor and pook elsewhere for an attorney. We did not have a good experience at all with this law team. We spend over $6000 dollars and 2 years and our case was sitting at the courthouse unfinished for months without them alerting us. They could not keep paralegals and everytime a new one came in they would charge us more time for yet another paralegal to work on our case. This has been detrimental for our custody case and have had to hire another lawfirm to complete what they never did. Communication is awful with them. We started with one lawyer who quit then were charged for the time for the new lawyer to catch up, we have no idea who was representing us. We hired a new lawfirm a couple weeks ago and they have provided us with more help in the couple weeks then Ascent did in years. We are having to dish out more money to fix what Ascent just dropped. I wish we could get back the money we spent for all the wasted time to go towards a lawyer that is actually helping. Seriously, look elsewhere!

I would give zero stars, but that's not an option. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! My case got dismissed because they took they're sweet time. I went from attorney to attorney, I never knew who was going to be my attorney from day to day. They tried to tell me they were the best. It was a joke. Ryan and his team made filing bankruptcy very easy and smooth. During our hearings there were other cases that needed tons more documents and all kinds of things done Ryan’s team made sure we had everything done and ready to roll everytime!

Terrible experience! I wouldn't go anywhere near this company again especially attourny Alex Scherf! They drain your money and do nothing to defend you! Alex Scherf has a lasidasical attitude and does not care about the people he's hired to help. He doesn't even do the bear minimum and will charge you an arm and a leg for simply stapling papers together!

I used Ryan at this law firm to stop a West Jordan Court writ of garnishment. He was able to act quickly and help me with my emergency. I can't say thank you enough.

In my opinion, Mike is one, if not the only, top divorce lawyer in Utah. Mike and Alex worked hard for me. I'm so clap I didn't go with one of those cheap divorce lawyers.

Before you assume a 1 star rating is because we lost our case, think again. WE WON. But please read to know what type of representation your dollar buys at Ascent. Also, this is the first bad review I've ever given. This should speak volumes!! As much as we hated to, we had to pursue a wrongdoing and we were involved in our very first lawsuit and knew nothing of the process. We UNFORTUNATELY chose Ascent Law based solely on their internet ratings. Ours was not a bankruptcy case, we were under the impression this firm specialized in any and all legal contracts. The first lawyer we were assigned to (David, I believe) said he has actually gone after the same defendant before, so we set an appointment with him, but he was sending text on his phone for the first half hour of the meeting. At the half hour mark he left to pick up his child, so...he obviously wasn't present for the second half. We wouldn't have scheduled if this had been mentioned beforehand. We spoke up about this and at that point Ryan took over our case. We provided all info on a flash drive and it was a slam dunk case. No, really, it was. Literally the night before trial, Ryan decided to have us go into his office and assigned us different representation who we spoke to via Skype or the like for, no exaggeration, no more than 5 minutes. He represented us the following morning with us not knowing anything, or him either, obviously. He had another case begin in the middle of ours, so then Ryan took over for the last little bit...which he was just as unprepared. No evidence was provided by them on our behalf (although they had it for months), but luckily the defense provided documents they didn't realize helped us. Like I said, our case was a slam dunk, so we won, but since this entire company has their heads up their behinds, we were $35k short of what we should have been awarded. That may not sound like a lot, but for a brand new company starting up right as COVID hit... Man, that could seriously be a make or break it moment...especially when they were handed info to bury the defendant. I guess if you have a cookie cutter case where they don't have to do work or put in any thought, they might be okay representation, maybe? It seemed like once they received the retention fee, it was near teeth pulling to get a return call or email. Also, once we won our case, we were offered a $4,000 discount on lawyer fees by Ryan to not go after the defendant for the fees which we were awarded by the judge....shortly after he told us he had others wanting to retain him to go after the same defendant, but he couldn't until our case was done. Say whats??? After all this, the the defendant skipped town, so we had to chase him down in Colorado. After waiting a month, Ryan set up a phone meeting between himself, us, and a Colorado attorney to take over the case there. We paid for the time on the call of course, even though Ryan was too lazy to speak to the CO attorney beforehand to verify he could take out case. We waited forever and paid to speak to someone who was too busy to take any new cases. I don't know if I need to even go on about what a circus Ascent Law Firm is. Lol. They are a waste of time. They are a waste of money. Anyway, once I find the case number, I can attach it since it's public record, so you can read for yourselves where they fell way way short. Please please please, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for representation!!!

Ascent Law is a amazing Law firm. I value Ryan Simpson, Tanya, Todd and the staffs professionalism,their friendship and there amazing team work. I have had several hoops that I have had to deal with (death bankruptcies, etc) . Ryan was prompt to take care of me when I called him with a matter that needed immediate attention. Ryan was kind and respectful, whenever I had a question he was more than happy and available to answer. Ryan works quickly, in that sense I felt that he was saving us money, he doesn’t waste any time.
