WCG Inc. Reviews

This is my fourth tax season as a client of Watson CPA and I couldn't be more pleased. This company while being big still maintains a mom and pop feel. They genuinely are interested in you as a person and making sure your business and individual tax process is stress free. I am assigned to pod C under Sally Rhoades. She has great availability and takes time to explain procedures. Even if you ask multiple questions, she responds to each one or makes a phone call to discuss in more detail. I have really loved that they make sure I am educated, which makes our discussions even better. Every year, I become more informed. They have a company analysis after every tax season, highlighting the good things as well as ways they can improve. I recommend this company to all of my friends and several have become clients as well.

I am not in the habit of leaving bad reviews, but my experience here has been so atrocious that I think other people should be aware before deciding to engage with this firm. For background, I don't know enough about taxes to feel comfortable doing my own, especially for a business, but I do know a little bit and that is how I have found these errors. I used Watson for 3 years and during that time, this is a sampling of the errors that I have caught. Who only knows what other more technical errors escaped my notice. 1) I gave them information about how much I had paid in interest on my business loan, and my quickbooks showed how much I paid total. I had been making extra payments on my loan that totaled 20,000 for the year. They put that extra 20,000 as interest payments instead of principal, which would have been problematic when I went to sell my business the following year because it would have shown less in profit. 2) I bought a new business and my state charges property taxes on business assets. The old owner was paying taxes on $100,000 of declared assets. Per my asset purchase agreement, my basis in the equipment was $20,000. I asked Watson to fill out my declaration and they just copied over the $100,000 from the old owner's form. If I had not caught this mistake it would have cost me more than $2,000 PER YEAR, EVERY YEAR. 3) On the same property tax form, you are assessed based on the supplies you use in one MONTH, they listed the total for the YEAR. I am still working the with town tax office to have that amended because I did not catch before filing. 4) When I asked them about filing for ERTC, they wanted a significant amount of money up front to determine eligibility (fair enough) but then they also wanted 10% of any refund received. I do not think this is an acceptable way to do business. 5) I asked for tax projections around on 10/28. I did not receive any information back until 12/28, at which point I was told I would have a very large tax bill (lets call it X dollars). Ok, not the accountant's fault, the numbers are what they are. I sold a significant amount of stock to pay for the tax bill. Then my return is actually filed and I get a sizeable refund (1/2 of X). Which normally would be nice, but I sold stock to overpay on my tax liability, so now not only do I owe short term capital gains on what I sold, I also lost out on a very good position on the stock that I had to liquidate. Throw in your run of the mill errors in billing, being misquoted for things, and delays and you have a pretty good summary of my experience with them. I used them because they came highly recommended by someone I know and the website makes it seem like they are a highly knowledgeable team, but my experience has been very different. I would proceed with caution before trusting them with your taxes, especially if you are like most people and blindly trust what your accountant tells you.
Thanks Sidra. We are sorry to have disappointed you. We dug into this further with our Tax Partner, and your statements below don't represent your emails and other workpapers. While we leave room for making mistakes, and working with you to resolve them, we don't readily agree with your assertions. As far as ERC, you might not be familiar with the accounting industry and its standard pricing for tax credits which is 10% of the credit received. We would encourage you to shop around and ask about R&D tax credits and similar business credits; you'll find that 10% is normal (some people were charging 15% to 20% of the ERC which is highway robbery). Again, thanks for taking time to express your frustration and disappointment. We which you the best of luck!

Megan, Jolene, Jill and the whole team at WCG has been great to work with for our payroll and taxes! It is great to have them help us manage that part of our business so we can focus on our patients.
Thanks so much for the kind words. Yes, we want you to focus on widgets... or patients... or whatever a small business owner would rather be doing including BBQing and having fun. Let us handle the chores. Again, thanks for the kind words!

The move to WCG this year was one of the best moves I've made for my business. Not just for the year...ever. Joseph is nothing short of incredible. The help he's provided for both the personal and business side of taxes, retirement, etc has been invaluable. No matter what comes up, he's been there to help me through it. Judy has been a pleasure to work with too! Moving from another service to working with her was a smooth, painless process. I'm very pleased with how things are going. There are so many other WCG staff member that have been phenomenal along the way. Amanda for making everything happen. Courtney for help with payroll. And I'm sure I'm forgetting someone, my apologies. My point is, my business and I would not be where we are today if it were not for the team at WCG. Thank you all for what you do.
Hey Steve! It's like winning a Grammy... need to pull out the cheat sheet of names. Kidding aside, thanks for recognizing those individuals. While we work as a team... success and falter as a team... it is still made up of individuals. Thanks again!

Outstanding! Tina Watson and her team identified a fraudulent income claim filed with the IRS using my SSN. Tina's team identified the issues, contacted the IRS, devised a plan for us to appeal to the IRS and started the paperwork within a day! Tina and her team's quick action and follow through not only relieved us from considerable stress but also saved us thousands of dollars in fees/penalties. Thanks for always having our back Watson CPA!
Yes sir. That's how Tina rolls. Get in, get out. We find it funny when someone smells the milk, determines that it is spoiled (or off as the Brits say) and then put it back. It's not going to get any better tomorrow... let's just deal with it today!

Jason Watson is not only a great CPA, but also a brilliant writer, in that he wrote a clear, concise, incredibly helpful book about the benefits of S Corp election. I'm a new S Corp owner, and I had so many questions, and needed help asap about estimated taxes. After speaking with Jason and getting my answer quickly and efficiently, he recommended that I read his book to give me a broader perspective and some deep understanding that would allow me to feel more confident in my recent acquisition. I read Jason's book, "Taxpayer's Comprehensive Guide to LLCs and S Corps," and I learned so much that will inevitably save me thousands and thousands of dollars in the future! Jason has a deep desire to help people, and it's evident in the way he handles his clients at the firm, always working to steer people towards their financial goals. He is a person of exceptional character and integrity, and I recommend his firm whole heartedly!

WCG has done an amazing job with our taxes. Last year we had complicated land sales and it was handled perfectly. This year, my company made an error on my W2 which i did not catch and they have worked with me at the last minute once i was able to get things fixed. They are a great company and do a great job!

Fantastic, wholesome and wonderful set of humans. I’ve trusted for 3 years now and hopefully we have many more years working together. Always knowledgeable and responsive to all my questions. Accurate in everything they do. They make my tax life easy. 10/10
Hey Nick! You double downed on the 5 stars with a 10/10. Thanks again for the response. Responsiveness is something we've struggled for a bit the past 2 years given the crazy changes in tax code... but thank you for recognizing.

I am new to the Watson CPA Group, but they have been an incredible resource. Their team is well versed in all areas of accounting and finance. The account setup process has been thorough and professional. I am very impressed with the systems and security they have in place. Everyone I've spoken to has been kind, knowledgeable and willing to work around my schedule. They have been patient, answered all of my questions and taken the time to help me understand concepts I was unfamiliar with. I very much look forward to a long business relationship with this wonderful group of people.
Kind and patience... thank you Ryan! I will make sure the team knows. We appreciate your feedback. -Jason Watson, Managing Partner

They always go beyond the call of duty. You will never feel they are "clocking" the time they invest on your issues. Sometimes you even need to tell them to "charge" you for the time spent addressing issues not included in original agreement.

The Watson team has been instrumental in advising me in all tax and payroll structuring matters required to launch my consulting business in a tax efficient manner as an S-Corp. They also offer innovative approaches to maximizing retirement savings for the self-employed. They are very easy to work with remotely, super responsive, reliable, and knowledgeable. I have a background working for two of the big four accounting firms in a non-tax capability and have had enough exposure to tax professionals to know that they are very competent. They offer a nice balance of size vs. personal service. I highly recommend anyone looking for a tax partner for your business to check out Watson!
Thanks Phil! We love the consultative banter and you keep us on our toes. Love it. -Jason Watson, Managing Partner

I finished my time with the US Navy and entered a new world of self-employed business owner. Watson CPA Group was recommended to me by a trusted friend. The staff at Watson helped me establish my business as well as elect for S-corp filing. The staff also helped consult and educate me on business setup, taxes, payroll, etc. Overall, it helped lessen my pain learning that side of self employment and focus on my job. Not to mention the helpful templates and tax planning that will hopefully help maximize profits and avoid overpaying taxes.
We love helping people transition from W-2 or military life to a contractor life. There are so many more moving parts, but there is also so many more ways to reduce taxes and leverage business benefits for you and your family. Thanks again Spencer! We look forward chatting with you this summer during your Periodic Business Reviews.

Watson Group has been, by far, the best CPA group I have worked with. I own a small business and we have tried five CPAs before finding them. They are very organized, a fantastic on-boarding process, and the communication is superb. I feel confident in their abilities and the staff is extremely kind.
Love the minion avatar. Thanks the comments Michelle! Yes, we revamped our on-boarding process since we were failing in that area; thanks for noticing!

Terrible company!!! Used them for years but since have been put on the back burner due to heavy overload of clients. Told that services would cost double now. If you are searching for a company that cares about people rather than numbers this isn’t the place for you!! In response to your response. I called into your office well over a month ago and had been told that your company has no record of me as a client. Which became highly concerning to me considering that your company has all of my personal records from my family. Tell yourself whatever it is that you and company wants to but the truth is that your company just doesn’t want to help those who are in a jam and the work load would become difficult. Plan and simple if I had known how difficult this company would have been to deal with through the years I never would have used them. I was referred to this company by John Barry who had since retired. That company was great!! Wish there was a company like his still out there his
Hey there Nathan. You are terribly incorrect. You showed up at our office on April 14 asking for us to prepare your 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 tax returns. You have not used us for the past 5 years. We kindly said that we were not interested at this moment. We have plenty of bandwidth for fiscally responsible and collaborative clients who appreciate a healthy business relationship (and tax filing deadlines). We wish you and your Colorado Springs Nature's Best Custom landscaping business the very best in the future.

I enjoy working with WCG Inc so much! They are knowledgable, professional and true experts in their field. Taxes and accounting can be so dry, but they make it interesting and fun. Their tax planning and strategies are easy to understand. I highly recommend this group!
Hey Stephanie! Nice to hear from you... taxes and accounting *can* be dry?! Of course they are! What makes matters worse, is that taxes and accounting have all kinds of gray areas and interpretation... you'd like they were exciting like an old school choose-your-own-adventure book. Oh well. Thanks again for your comments.

I cannot give a high enough recommendation to this CPA firm. Jason Watson is extremely knowledgeable and helpful accountant. His firm has helped me with tax issues in the past and will be my resource for future tax and business needs. Jason Watson is also the author of a great book which he updates annually called, The Taxpayer's Comprehensive Guide to LLC's and S Corps. No exaggeration is included in my opinion that this is one of the best tax resources available to business owners.
Thanks so much David! Hard to imagine what started as a 4-page brochure ended up being an article and then became a book. Updating our book has been rough... like a stucco bathtub rough... the past couple of years due to the crazy tax code changes. But the 2021-2022 edition was just released in October. Thanks again for the wonderful review.

I started my own business as a database consultant in 2019 and no idea how to handle the accounting and taxes involved in working for myself. I reached out to WCG and I partnered with Joseph. Joseph helped me form my LLC, explained what a monthly payroll is, helps me with my quarterly taxes and my tax returns, both personal and business. He also responded to endless questions during my first year or so. WCG has been amazing for me. I find their service to be affordable and worth every penny. If you are starting a business, my piece of advice is: Hire an accountant. And I wholeheartedly recommend WCG.

As a small business owner with a complex org set-up, Sally was willing and able to provide us a key area of service in getting our books looking good at the end of the year. She really cares about accuracy of responses and of data. We recommend her work. We also love their highly informative and education newsletter.

I have been using the Watson CPA Group to prepare my business tax returns for several years. They provide excellent service, and meet or exceed my expectations every year. They communicate clearly and often, and their knowledge of tax issues is unparalleled. I strongly recommend them for all of your business tax and accounting needs.
Thanks so much for the continued trust and loyalty, Jeremy! It is never goes unrecognized or under-appreciated. Thanks again!

I started working with Watson CPA Group in July 2018. They have been extremely helpful in getting my business on the right path for taxes, moving to an S-corp, etc. They are extremely knowledgeable and very personable to work with. Being a "new" small business owner they provided a lot of help and expertise as well as the nudging I needed to get certain documents in and the patience when I didn't. Highly recommend!
Thanks so much for the kind words Scott! We love supporting business owners with good advice and mundane compliance... so you can go and sell more widgets!

WCG and Joseph Bassett have been extremely helpful, diligent, and responsive over the past couple of years I have worked with them. They handle (almost) everything so I am free to do my thing. It's an all-encompassing service they provide with not just accounting, but also structuring, planning, forecasting, etc. They are on top of their stuff and always reach out well before tax time and touch base with you multiple times a year. Their plans an excellent value proposition as well.
Ah Yes... tax planning. The crux of the value proposition as you say. Very few things more disconcerting than a business owner not knowing how much of the money in the bank is actually theirs. Tax planning solves that... and then we formulate that into payroll withholdings to eliminate the need for estimated tax payments. Again, tax planning is a must! Thanks for recognizing.
s
WCG are friendly, funny and best after sales responsive team you'll ever find.... really great people to deal with, great peace of mind dealing with them, knowing they have your back when things don't go smoothly and your stress levels are peaking....highly recommend them!!

If you are in need of a qualified CPA firm for tax planning and preparation, I highly recommend The Watson Group. Over the last couple of years, they have helped me save thousands of dollars in taxes with my business through proper tax planning. They are qualified, informative, timely, reasonably priced, and have a great sense of humor. I am so glad I found them!
Hey Kelli! Thank you for your kind words. Informative and timely are the intangibles missing in so many CPA firms...and Yes, we try to have a sense of humor. Take the work seriously, but certainly not ourselves.

We have been using Watson CPA Group since 2013 (working overseas) and have been very satisfied. Our taxes had been complicated and we needed a firm with expertise in expat taxes. Now that we no longer need this specific expertise, we still use them as they are highly skilled tax professionals who are very responsive to our needs/requests. We highly recommend Watson CPA Group for personal taxes & S Corp tax prep.
Hey C (Yes, I know your full name... and now I know your picture!)! Thanks for the review. You had a ton going on with all the travel and the international business dealings, etc. We are super happy for you and your husband.

This is how all professional services businesses should operate. They are always accessible, are clearly great listeners, and make it easy to stay informed. While the subject of taxes and business formation can be a bit dry, the Watson CPA Group has managed to make it interesting and even a bit humorous on occasion. Most importantly, my business has a tax plan and strategy that I understand.
Hey Michael, thanks for your review. Understanding your tax plan and strategy?! What a concept! Too many accounting firms operate in crisis mode; here is WHAT you owe versus here is what you WILL owe. Life is so much better looking through the windshield than the rear view view.

Watson CPA group does an amazing job with my business taxes. I'm a current client of theirs. They are very well organized, prompt, courteous and above all know the ins and outs of the complex field of taxation both personal and corporate. They have also dealt with some very urgent and serious tax issues on my behalf that could have turned into a disaster if inappropriately handled, HIGHLY recommend.
Thanks Ayman. Yes, we had to some inherited tax matters that needed attention, and we are so glad to get those behind you. We couldn't have done it without your help and patience.
