South Carolina Federal Credit Union Charisma Dr, Spartanburg

When I first moved to Sc I started with SCTelco as my bank. Had credit cards and car loans all paid on time and without issue. Left and eventually came because of their good service. Went through a tuff time and trying to get back on track with the IRS and my credit. I have a new charge off on my credit that reduced my score from 643 to 543 from Spero for $76. This is on an account that I closed. So I called today to see what it is and how to fix. Keep in mind I didn't have over draft protection either. But apparently the account wasnt closed as I thought and since the company had my ACH info their allowed to withdrawal from a account I thought was closed. Overdraft protection or not apparently. So I asked if I pay the $76 will they remove the derogatory event from my credit. First I was told once I pay, it will automatically fall off. Which is not true. Once I pointed this out the lady told me the will not remove anything from my credit over $25. Very unethical company at best. Just so happens that can't see past a certain date now the account has been charged off. The other interesting part is I never received any information to be able to handle the issue before it came to this. So $76 has put me deeper in a financial whole. Do yourself a favor and bank with someone who has better ethics.

So far so good with this credit union. They were very helpful when I needed to get a home equity loan. The process to get my home equity loan was very fast and the people I worked with were very nice and professional. The people at the local branch are very nice and helpful. My experience with this credit union is far better than the other bank I also have an account with.

I remembered the SC Credit Union only as I researched a (pre-owned) auto loan. I'm glad I did; after verifying rates with other lending institutions, it was the credit unit that easily won me over! The customer service was beyond reproach. The terms of the loan were superior to any other. The local branch near me helped me complete the paperwork in record time. I had my check in hand within 2 hours. Great rate, superior service, no fees. I encourage everyone to check them out!

Absolutely, NEVER do a mortgage with this bank!!!! No need to reach out, I have 6 times, with no response. I will be moving my business elsewhere, soon as possible

The message I sent corporate: "YOUR IT, APP AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORSE! TRYING TO MAKE PAYMENT- PAY OFF PAYMENT- WHAT BANK CAN'T TAKE A PAYMENT??!! This is an unbelievable experience. I am 2 hours from a branch, I have spent the last hour trying to pay off my loan. Online, I had to ask it repeatedly to text or call me a number to verify me to make the payment. I finally receive the code and it said "payment amount exceeds the daily limit of an external transfer". Then, I tried calling in to pay by phone and they refused to take the payment BECAUSE THE CSR SAID I DID NOT SOUND LIKE A MAN! I verified my social, my account number, my DOB and my address and previous address flawlessly and she accused me of not being a man and said she would not take my payment that I would have to travel 2 hours to a branch to pay off my loan!!!! Your algorithm should be deciding my gender (Account #, SS#, DOB# Address, etc), not the assumptions and judgements of your CSRs. ALL OF THIS OVER MAKING A PAYMENT??!! SCFEDCU's archaic IT and customer service has been horrible for all 3 years. I want to pay-off ASAP and never deal with you again."

Wonderful institution to work with. I have been a member for years when it was Spartan Credit. Staff are the best you can find. Highly recommend them for any of your financial needs. Loan agent Philip Dill has handled all of my loans with the greatest of care and communication. A+ rating

Supposedly a Credit Union, but will nickel and dime you just like one of the big banks. Ever since they bought out our local Credit Union it’s been new fees here, another fee there. Employees that were kept over are great. Otherwise, you really get the feeling they just don’t care. Edit: In response to the owner, this review was written after several calls to the call center, which was the basis for this review.

I love the reception when you walk in and the caring feeling that I'm shown. My only issue is the checking account has to have such a high balance in order to have free checking like in the past. There is no checking accounts offered that doesn't require you to have a certain balance without chargeing a fee. I will probably close out my checking account and just keep my savings.
