Signed a contract. Was supposed to maintain home and manage Tennant. Completely dropped the ball. Claimed Tennant was too angry to manage. Never inspected home. Tennant stopped paying rent. She couldn’t collect payment even after reassuring me she could. I eventually informed her that my Tennant needs to be evicted and that’s when she persuaded me not too evict then cancelled out our contract. She did help send a 30 day notice but her notice was invalid. Home was completely destroyed. Every square foot off it. 15 truck loads off trash. I had a property manager. How did it get this bad???? She cost me thousands in lost rent. Do not go through them. They will only collect your payment.

If I could give this zero stars, I would. Lisa seems like a really nice woman. Her mother, the co-owner, Susan, is not. I've never felt so belittled in a process to get an apartment. I want to warn others. I had spoken with Lisa on the phone first about an apartment in Lisbon. She was wonderful, and warned me that her mother could be a bit abrasive. She said she's often the one who needs to smooth things. I work in sales...I can easily adapt to all personality types. When I spoke to Susan on the phone, she abruptly said several times "Sorry, it won't work" in response to simple questions. About pets, heating, lowering the rent a bit. Normal conversations. She said to come in and get an application. Lisa said it would be best for her Mom to meet in person because she's rough on the phone. I truly felt like Lisa was rooting for me. I took time away from work to go get the application. When I arrived, they were sitting on a couch. I sat down, made small talk and played with their dog. I held out my hand for Susan to shake while saying "Nice to meet you." She looked at it, sighed and reluctantly shook it. Her body language was terrible. She said "I have a problem with you not paying for March. If you want it, you have to pay for March. I'm not giving you a month." I told her I had already paid my rent for March and she said "That's on you. Not me." I ignored her statement. But, it's March 6th. The closest weekend to potentially move is March 10th. There was no discussion of pro-rating rent. She acted like she was doing me a favor. I told her the unit was vacant and has been for months and I would move in April 1st. "You're not receiving money on it. What you would receive is a security deposit as soon as we sign a lease and the promise of a long term tenant who pays her rent on time." Her daughter had to tell her a couple of times to listen to me. Eyerolls, sighs. A 73 year old teenager. Actually, my 16 year old behaves more appropriately. I had to agree that if I gave a deposit and decided I didn't want the unit, it would be nonrefundable. I'm pretty sure that's illegal. I went into that meeting with 6 months of rent receipts to prove I paid on time. I am a single, professional woman with a teenaged daughter and a good job. I had W-2's as well as pay stubs. I went in prepared to give a security deposit because I've already seen inside the unit. I'm pretty sure my money would have been stolen. I'm pretty sure Susan is a nightmare to rent from. I read some other reviews online, and they indicate a great amount of mental instability. I would do business elsewhere. I am. Edit 11/21/2019 I was just notified of the response to my review by Lisa posted below. While I appreciate the response, I posted this review over a year ago. Following my meeting with Lisa's mother and this review online, Susan called my employer. She spoke with an HR rep. She demanded to speak with my direct supervisor. She demanded my immediate termination from my employment because she didn't like my review. This is not a good company to rent from as long as Susan is involved in any of the processes.

    Response from the owner

Hi Michelle: This is Lisa Zlomke. I'm sorry you had a bad experience while trying to rent a property. As I told you at the time, this rental you were trying to rent was personally owned by Susan Farnsworth. This was not a property managed by Shore and Country Property management. All though I am extremely sorry you felt you were treated poorly, this is not the standard of practice for Shore and Country Real Estate or Property Management. If you would like to look for rental or purchase a home, please call me personally at 207-837-1997. Thank you!
