Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group Reviews

Dishonest and predatory when it comes to Cobra health insurance. It's the equivalent of a loan shark that buys health insurance responsibility off of your employer and makes up their own rules to their benefit while you're in a vulnerable position. They back-date (lying) necessary letters or just flat out don't mail them and say they did on their online portal (also lying). Again I say this because we didn't want to be in this situation to begin with and lacked any proper notifications or documentation. The only way to avoid a 20$ convenience fee on their bills is by paper check (it's 2022, this should raise eyebrows). After paying off all due amounts online for each month, IN FULL, (plus a convenience fee of 20$) all due amounts were then updated weeks later and required even more money plus the same multiples of convenience fees. If you don't know how much to charge, then simply don't send bills yet. This is a scam and they're holding your coverage hostage with it. If your actual investments are with them I'm concerned for you. If your health insurance will be in their hands due to loss in employer coverage, demand letters from them asap so you can get state sponsored coverage or get on a spouse's plan. They do not have your best interests in mind at all and should be avoided at all costs.

    Response from the owner

Brian, we are sorry to hear your transition to COBRA was not as expected and we understand that it can be a challenging time for those electing coverage. We can assure you that we administer COBRA coverage according to the rules and regulations outlined by the DOL and IRS. We do offer various payment options, including an online payment directly with the vendor for convenience. While there is a fee for that payment, it is not a required method. If you have questions or need assistance with your coverage we are available to help. Please contact our service center at 888-762-6088 Monday – Friday 8AM-6PM EST.

What Sentinel Benefits is doing with their Cobra health insurance coverage should be criminal. They conveniently don't send me the letter stating my coverage would be changing so I can get on my husband's health insurance due to a qualifying event. Without that letter, they know people are stuck with Cobra. And a $20 convenience fee if you pay online PER BILL? Seems like that's only convenient for the administration profiting from sick people needing to keep their health insurance. Also, I find it funny how it's called Cobra seeing as it's run by a bunch of snakes. How fitting.

Happy with the service. It's nice to get a live person to ask questions and not a long automated menu. Answered all of my claim questions and helped me understand the eligible expenses in the plan. Very helpful.

I have been very happy with my retirement and FSA accounts, which I have had with Sentinel for several years. When I have needed help with something, it's nice to talk to people who sound like they genuinely care about your situation!

Horrible customer care. Deny your paid for benefits arbitrarily without making any logical sense. I would recommend all employers who use this company to administer benefits avoid it.

My information and identity was used. How does this company keeps supporting fraud all these years. They must have no security procedures in place to prevent fraud. It’s a shame. The government should really investigate internal departs for insider fraud. I never heard of this place until in got mail with Benny cards. Once I googled the company name all I saw was court cases for financial fraud and embezzlement. The operator has no clue if there is a fraud prevention team. This is the 21st century how does this company continue to steal peoples identity and information and get away with it?

Was somewhat shoe-horned into using Sentinel as it was an employer sponsored program. Out of the other 401ks that I have, this is by far the most fee loaded, expensive, and least helpful to me as a customer. Dismissive and uninterested in helping customers get their questions answered. I would highly recommend using another provider such as Vanguard. Better options for funds and significantly lower fees.

    Response from the owner

Chris, we regret that you were dissatisfied with the response given by our Service Center. During this interaction, we explained the difference between a fee and the forfeiture of unvested employer contributions and provided information about the plan’s vesting schedule. Employer contributions to a retirement plan are often subject to a vesting schedule, meaning that there is a period of time that a participant must be employed before they are entitled to the full employer contribution. If a person terminates employment, any unvested balance is forfeited back to the employer. Thank you.

VERY slow to reimburse. They string you along, and do not deposit the money on the day they claimed. The benny card works only SOME of the time at the PHARMACY. What EXACTLY is this company doing with our money?!?!? 🤔 #monopoly #lupo #questions #needoptions #dobettersentinel

    Response from the owner

Hello, we apologize for any delay you experienced in receiving your reimbursement. Claims are processed and paid weekly. Did the company have a bonus pool for those employee's who can write the most glowing reviews? You know that's a conflict of interest on Google right? The authentic reviews must hurt a bit.

very difficult to submit a claim. They act like insurance companies that try very hard not to approve your claim
