Sebago Lake State Park Campground Reviews
A
Beautiful park, beautiful lake. Clean, clear water. It's a big area with a food stands for quick, hot snack food and drinks. Bathrooms are clean, big and have shelf space for clothes, bags etc. There was about a 45 minute line wait. They route the traffic around a bit, perhaps to keep the traffic flow off main streets. It's worth the wait.
B
One of my favorite places in the area, and definitely a family fun area for kids and adults alike! Restrooms are decent, plenty of space, concession stand was open at noon for lunch. What a nice place for a relaxing day!
D
Great campsites. Beautiful lake. Great facilities for kids. Very nice showers. Super friendly staff.
A
First time at Sebago Lake Park and it was all o had hoped for a more. Fun place to swim with family's and friends.
A
The actual state park is beautiful. We had a View of the lake from our campsite. Showers and bathrooms were clean. Other campers were horrific. Be prepared for screaming babies, loud music, chainsaws, and a lot of parties. Quiet hours are not respected. People parting until 2am and up at 6am cutting trees down with their chainsaws.
J
This state park is a jewel. Campsites are spacious, level, and within a well maintain forest environment. The beach and swimming area is great for children and adults alike. Restroom/Showers were clean and well cared for. Sebago Lake is gorgeous and the roadways and sites around the lake are an added pleasure to a visit here.
B
Awesome campground. We go every year and rain or shine, have a blast. It is a family campground so if you are looking to party after 10pm (play music and talk above a whisper) this may not be the place for you. Would be nice if night hours were extended to 11pm. Bathrooms and showers are great and kept clean. Beach is big enough. Horse shoe pits have been there for years and now corn hole competitions have been added. No movies this summer in the amphitheater (probably due to Covid). Looking forward to 2022!
A
Beautiful State Park. It's great for The whole family to enjoy. It's become our favorite place. There's a ton of picnic tables and open areas to set up your own chairs blankets and such. There's grills available to use and if you're not up for that there's a little snack shack. The burgers are pretty tasty. Make sure you have bug spray and sun screen. I highly suggest visiting Sebago Lake State Park!
C
Nice boat ramp w plenty of parking. Dual launch deep enough for any boat you want to bring. Dock space for easy access. Great place to paddle through river to locks and Brandy Pond. Park is full of beautiful trails to hike or bike.
E
Good family friendly campground! But truth be told, it's more of a camper/trailer park. While I did see some six or seven tents, it was minimal compared to the number of trailers and campers. The lake itself and the surrounding amenities are wonderful. Bring what you need! The camp store is not cheap! We had a wonderful time there.
D
Very clean, nice level sites, power and water. Plenty of bathrooms and showers. There is a convenient but crude boat launch right on the beach. Beach...beautiful long sand beach. Nice views, hiking trails and fishing.
j
Very beautiful, very well-cared-for State Park! Had a wonderful stay, the ranger I met was so friendly and informative! Can't wait to go back! (P.S. if you're wondering why I didn't complain about the state of the roads, it's because that's how they keep the jerks from speeding through and being unsafe and, I understand and appreciate this.)
H
Looks like it possibly could be a nice spot however upon my first morning of waking up I had heard voices surrounding my camper for some time before actually waking and woke to tents and people's belongings set up in my area. Turns out the people want to enjoy the day and the sun was coming through the tree's too much so they were told I would be moving to another site and they could have that one. Would really be nice if the rules set forth for people to follow was enforced so that their pettiness didn't affect anyone else. Check out time is 11am... just be prepared to get out early if you stay here.

On a multi week camping trip with my son staying at many National and State Parks. Am disappointed to say Sabago Lake State Park Campground was the worst so far. The good things: It’s clean Has nice facilities-bathrooms, fire pits, dump sites, etc. Relatively inexpensive compared to other parks The lake is beautiful The Bad things No privacy. Sites are on top of each other with no vegetation in between Crowded. Every spot is filled No view of the lake. Only a handful of sites can see the water and we only saw 1 that was on the water LOUD. Even though they have multiple hosts on site no one is enforcing quite hours 10pm-8am. Parties going on at night with laughing and loud voices up to midnight, right next to the host. Kids yelling in the morning at 7 am. The nature sounds would be nice to hear if you only could.
B
One of our favorite campground. Nice play grounds and beach area. Good bathrooms, showers and dishwashing stations. Sites are close together and do not offer a lot of privacy, but being tucked away on Sabago Lake is worth it.
S
Very beautiful and peaceful! We should have waited a couple more weeks to see the trees turn but still definitely beautiful. Hiking was amazing and the weather was perfect! I will be back!
B
Great hiking trails with amazing views of the Songo River and Sebago Lake. Well marked trails and maps at all intersections make very family friendly. Beautiful area!
K
really bad service (staff wise), in the past staying here would be enjoyable, and the rangers were a lot more helpful and kind. but, unfortunately, this summer when i talked to the rangers, i felt very disrespected and judged. the atmosphere is extremely conservative, which wouldn't be a problem if i didn't feel that they enforced this to where i didn't feel like they wanted me to stay here. the rangers used to make me feel like they cared about the campers. now, the campsites feel like you're paying an over-expensive price to stay somewhere you won't be treated kindly.
N
This is my favorite lake in Maine!! It does get *very* busy in the summer, but evenings are never a disappointment. The best time to go is spring if you want a nice, moderately quiet escape.
S
Very nice location and great staff! Campground is clean and well taken care of. Excellent place to bring kids. The 2 playgrounds are nice. Naples Beach is a nice and large, sandy expanse while Witch's Cove is mostly wooded to the waters edge. Being the most popular park in the system, the sites are rather cozy to one another with little to nothing between them. Privacy is not something that exists here. The Naples Beach side is somewhat better in this regard. At $7 per bundle the firewood is the by far the most expensive I've experienced. All in all, a very pleasant experience for families. Will definitely return.
K
I have been camping every year at the state park for over 40 years! It is our absolute favorite place to camp. The lake is gorgeous, pristine and clear. Highly recommend it!
S
This place is beautiful, but unfortunately the staff seem to be a big problem with this place. I came here to visit my brother who had a campsite for the week with 2 of his friends. I had been there about 2 hours visiting with my brother, we had a campfire & ate, then I went to bed (before 9pm) because I had to work early in the morning. The next morning I got up, thanked my brother for inviting me & left for work, when I was stopped by a ranger on my way out of the park. I rolled down my window & he told me I was not to come back again. Confused, I asked him what I did to not be allowed back in. The ranger accused me of getting into a verbal altercation with the park staff/ranger the night before. He said I was rude, loud, & swearing at them. I had no clue what he was talking about, I was the only girl at our site, but I never saw or spoke to any park ranger or staff after entering the camp ground & had gone to sleep before 9pm. I told him I think he has me confused with someone else, but he was adamant it was me. He went on to say, “what I’m not going to run my mouth now.” I just looked at him & said once again, he had the wrong person. I asked him why they wouldn’t have asked the person they had this altercation with to leave last night when it happened? I guess my reasonable thinking offended him & he told me to leave or he would call the police on me. I was so upset after being kicked out & treated so badly, I decided to write this review. It’s funny after reading the other reviews for this campground, there are many other people who have had bad experiences with the staff similar too mine. Hopefully these reviews will help bring staff changes, because it’s ruining the image of what I use to consider a great campground.
E
Very nice beach with lots of room to spread out. Loved being able to tube here. The sand is a bit course so you may want to wear water shoes.
S
Be prepared to wait quite awhile in line to get in. Water was shallow quite a ways before getting deeper. Nice for folks with little kids. Very rocky... Would recommend water shoes. I will definitely return
L
Beautiful State Park! Stayed in one of the group sites and had plenty of room... plus a private beach! We woke up to loons and Canadian geese every morning. Spectacular!
T
It was very busy and active. Although nights were quiet, family noise startsd early in the morning and late into the night The sites are a bit jumbled and vary widely in size. We enjoyed our stay but likely won't go back. However, the campground beaches were convenient and clean.
B
Beach is lovely, bathrooms are relatively clean, my one reason for not rating this campground higher is the hit or miss nature of the staff, Karol Carlson first attempted to not allow us to rent a site and judging by the expression she beared it seemed we didn't fit into the "right type". We were eventually helped by someone else, though she continued to harass my brother and I for the remainder of our stay, lose her and we'll be back as often as possible!
J
i stayed here with some friends and it was pretty fun. gorgeous beach and amazing views. the only thing is the service, we were not treated with kindness at all. unfortunately we wont be back because of this, we went down this trail before we got stopped by this guy and we had to go and see the manger with my mom and friends and we weren’t allowed to go there again and we got yelled at and cussed out, just terrible service
A
I give this campground a 3 star. Sites are way too close to each other, no privacy. Lots of screaming kids at 7:30am, partiers up until 10pm and a little after. We are pretty easy going people, not a lot bothers us but we are vacationing too. Control your kids screeching a bit more please... No one wants to hear that. I give our site 44 a 5 star. My husband and I have stayed in many of the Maine state campgrounds. We had not stayed here because we heard such horror stories. We decided to give it a last minute try and lucked out with our site. Our site was great. It was in our opinion the only site that had some privacy. Very crowded camp ground. Benefit it has its own private beach which was not over crowded like the beach at the day park at Sebago. We only live apprx and hour so it makes a nice weekend get away for the lake beach. We had no issues with campground staff & Rangers, they run this camp ground by the book no gray areas. Example of this-There was a wife trying to check in when we were and they would not let her in because the reservation was under husbands name. She indicated husband was a few hours behind her. They would not let her in. Apparently there was a previous incident like this. No exceptions. Just beware of this campground if you are looking for some privacy or a bit of quiet time.... this is not the campground for that.
S
Perfect weather, great views. The water was warm and the people around us were nice. Reminds you why living in Maine is so great. A truly peaceful afternoon. I would recommend if your looking for a relaxing good time on the water.
D
This campground is one of the nicest, and quietest in the state. The beach is very nice for all ages, and there are geat playgrounds for the little ones. The tenting intermixed with other camp vehicles is well spaced in most areas, with plenty of trees for shade.
V
Every year, we spend one week at sebago lake State Park because we find it to be a most tranquil atmosphere in our camping experience.
A
Clean bathroom facilities.easy access to picinic tables with grills and a wonderful childrens playground
D
I was really looking forward to seeing this place but... it appears to be my version of camping hell. Way overcrowded! Tight sites and multiple tents or RV's per site. This could be your thing. Just not my idea of camping.
M
One of my closest friends recomended me to stay here...seemed good based off of the reviews for the most part. now understanding the bad ones. when i was shown photos of the beach it lookedgorgeous. unfortunately i did not make it in to the park as i drove in and saw one of the staff members in a very long convo with a nice lady my age...seemed upset. talked to her afte.r....WOW. i can not review the campground itself because i was too flabbergasted by the staff.
k
It's Sebago... Is there really anyplace better?
O
clean, affordable, all day access. Many clean bathroom and changing rooms, single rooms. A ton of beach to choose from. Trails and a playground. Usually very very crowded, though!
P
First time we have gone was this past Labor Day weekend. Great 3.7 mile hike with our dogs. Quiet and clean. Nice beach area and picnic tables available.
G
Clean, child friendly, great access to Sebago Lake, respectful campers. Some sites are a bit cramped and would like to see a few open play areas but did have small playgrounds, horse shoe pits and volleyball. Hiking trails close by.
B
The worst camp site I’ve ever been to in all my years of camping. Very disappointed in the park rangers attitudes. Not friendly and unwelcoming. It’s a beautiful scenery Really is a shame the park staff does not match that energy. Very conservative and reserve atmosphere. Would not recommend unless for a day trip to see nature’s beauty.
J
Everything is great about this place. My review for it during covid is just that the people are not careful at all and don't usually wear masks in the bathrooms like required. I don't notice any extra cleaning or sanitizing so it definitely is a risk being here during this time.
D
We are full-time RVers and have been staying at national and state parks for three months now. This has to be one of our favorites because we are camped right on the lake. We have been kayaking, on bike rides and there are plenty of hikes available. Bathrooms are clean. Pets are not allowed, kids are back in school and bugs are not biting us. Just about perfect. I understand this campground is hard to get into during the summer, but no reservations required after the 1st week in September.
A
I have had family with sites here for years. From kid to adult activities you can beat it. If you want a great place to get away with the kids you found one of the beat places on earth. Happy hour is great to.
M
Loved it, been going to sebago every few summers as a kid. First time I've been back in awhile. Water was clean, warm, clear great lake for swimmers. Would e my own personal dream to live there one day but I guess winters are just a bit different. 😄
A
We went on a chilly day but the water was clean & soft sand only some rocks. Pretty trees for shade & roots that help prevent erosion. Picnic tables and some grills provided. Playground & swing set. Restrooms with running water
m
Nice beach area. Would have been nice for the concessions to be open, but we still had a great time. Kids loved the water, the play areas and trails
K
Disappointed the rules state no dogs on beach!! So we respect 1the rule leave our dog home But yet 7/11 with in 15 minutes 2 dogs on beach , I guess the entitled think their better then the rules
H
Went camping here 9/11/21. It was gorgeous. We had a small tent site #113 and I was amazed at the view of the water even with another campsite between us and the water, it was stunning the whole time watching the sun change. Lovely rock too, where you can sit and listen to the water right below or stargaze without too many trees above, or just gaze at the expanse of the lake. Bathrooms, showers and dishwashing sink were just a short walk away and very well maintained. Cleanest campground bathrooms I have seen!! Cell reception never faltered here. Campground staff were very friendly and helpful. We went one one loop “nature trail”, which was so pretty full of mushrooms and green mosses… I wish there were a better map of all the trails, but we also didn’t spend a ton of time hiking in the first place, so no biggie. I love it here and can’t wait to come again, hopefully more than one night next time!
J
Very nice park with picnic tables along the beach.
I
Been going to Sebago Lake State Park twice a year for 12 plus years, definetly our "Happy Place "
C
Great family park. Beautiful lake to swim, boat, gaze at. Part of the park has hookups. Don't go the last week in July or the first week of August, almost impossible to get in. Booking for this park only has its own day due to its popularity. Have been coming for 37 years. Will continue to return. Just wish the really giant trailers were not allowed as the ruin the views. But. Still love the lake! Bathrooms are well kept as are the showers. Camp hosts are available if you need them and the Rangers are always patrolling.
K
Visited during off season to volunteer raking. Had a pleasant hike and walk. Beautiful when the crowds are gone, and the lake is calm without boat traffic. (We have visited many times before during summer seasons and it was also lovely but of course more crowded.)
S
Duck with a view. Mallory made for the most comfortable spot on the beach to fall asleep in the sun and listen to the small waves crashing. If you can get there early enough to beat the afternoon rush you’re guaranteed a beautiful view. Lots of children and families. Clean bathrooms. Also a busy snack bar during certain hours.
B
A wonderful State Park on Sebago Lake. Nice Beach, good camping grounds, friendly staff. The easiest four star State Park I've ever found, however it's the family operated snack shack by the beach that pushes the state park to a five-star. Food menu is pretty average for a state park although the service and friendliness is fantastic. They went out of their way to make my experience at the park a memorable one. If you're looking for a place to cool off and grab a bite to eat this is the state park for you.
B
Love it here, the water is nice and clean, lots of picnic tables and charcoal grills, but they are first come first serve. They have individual bathrooms, a playground, volleyball net and some open fields. There is also a group picnic section that has a little island you can walk thru the water to get to. Great place on a hot day!
M
Amazing place but may turn down boat noice
P
Even though I have only been here once so far, I can see that everyone made an active effort to keep the grounds clean and it surprisingly wasn't that loud although there was a large amount of people. I did see only two lifeguards the entire time I was there (about 5 hours) but the water wasn't that deep so I can see why they weren't that worried about that. I can definantly say that I will come back here.
S
Not horrible. Not really my taste. Good for families.
S
Crowded, very windy and cold on this side of the beach. Have been 3 times this year already. Not impressed enough to make the 45 minute drive again. Not only that, but there is 1 attendant to check visitors into the park. You literally sit in your car for over an hour waiting to get to the cashier's office. Just an FYI to bring activities for the car if you have kids they will be bored! Lol
H
A wonderful place for a fall walk. There are several woods trails through the park. On the day use side, you can pick up the loop by the beach. It's a little under 4 miles if you do the full loop, all very level and easy. The beach area has plentiful picnic tables, including several which are designated handicap accessible. It was very quiet on an late October Monday and we only encountered a handful of other people, all of whom were practicing good social distancing/mask wearing. The gate was unmanned/honor system fees.
D
Favorite summertime spot to cool off on a hot day. My wife and I spend a lot of time at the state park. Clean water, grounds and beach are free of trash, and the views are spectacular.
K
Ducks enjoyed the swimming hole as well! Wish that folks were a bit better at picking up trash around the picnic tables - there was a park attendant taking care of the bathroom facilities, plenty of changing rooms.
M
This is a lovely place. I went to visit my friend. Their camp was first row next fo the beach. The camp was well maintained and there were no pets allowed. The park had nice clean facilities. They have place for hike and bike . The sand area on the beach was narrow I would say about 6 feet from the send to the water . Anyway the water was clean and warm. I believe the price to stay overnight is not bad. I paid for two people to visit only $12.
J
Wonderful swimming area.lifeguard.Plenty of room. Excellent restrooms. No food available, bring your own. Must carry out own trash. Campsites available. Reasonable price.
C
The first time I stayed here was in 1963. There is so much to do, it is so beautiful, the other campers are great. The staff has always been above and beyond. The last time I stayed here it was disappointing due to the bad attitudes of the staff. This year was the most disappointing. Unfriendly, pompous staff. I don't think I'll be back.
k
Beautiful and relaxing. The day was gorgeous and only a one instance with a group of people obviously drinking and being unruly in public. The local sheriff showed up within 15 minutes and all was quiet and good from there on out. As long as everyone can be respectful of others around them, I always have a great time at Sebago Lake State Park!!
J
Really enjoyed our time! 3 day visit. Beautiful weather. Kind staff. Our site was right on the lake. So beautiful here. Rode our bikes, walked the beach, had a campfire. Perfect for kids. Showers available. All up to COVID health standards too.
J
Beautiful, clean park with lots of animals. Staff is super friendly and helpful. My only complaint is about the showers, you do get a little shower room to yourself but the water is lukewarm and gets cold if someone else uses the water. Also, pay attention to what you're booking if you cook on the fire like me because 90% of the fire pits do not have a grate for cooking on
s
after reading some of the other reviews I definitely agree with what the 1-star/2-star reviews are saying...the staff are extremely condescending. They made the stay less enjoyable than what it could have been with the way that they cast judgment across the family while we were just trying to get past the front gate, like something about us wasn't 'their type'. And while this was only our arrival, it kind of decimated the entire experience. Everyone just wanted it to be over with. I was going to rate it higher because of the fact that the scenery is nice and the beach is nice. But then I realized that you can get that in dozens of other places that have staff that know how to give a decent welcome.
S
My husbands family has been camping here for years. This was the first year we have been able to go with our own little family. We love the playground and beautiful beach. The campsites are nice with lots of variety. There's always activities to partake in and the restrooms are clean. We are excited to carry on this camping tradition more in the future.
K
Took the clients I support to the park with our park pass we have from our program. The guy at the booth was very rude told us our 20 21 pass wasn't valid when we just purchased it a few weeks prior. We started to give him our information and he interrupted us and told us he didn't care and wanted a better life. We were handed the clipboard and told to fill eberytjibg out ourselves. I get finding employees is hard but maybe screen them better to see if they're gonna be rude to everyone.
C
Not very COVID friendly. The beach gets over crowded and people aren’t very aware of the space. I had a kid come over into my sons face and while I’m trying to get the kid to back up the mother just sat there. I think that maybe there should be a limit to how many people are allowed in the park. We showed up at 9:15 am and left at 10:30am!!! The beach was clean just too crowded for the way life is right now.
R
Still a nice park because of the lake and the sites are fairly spacious. Problem is that the prices have gone up and maintenance has gone down Services have gone down. Usually the bathrooms and showers have a couple of stalls that are out of order 4 weeks and not maintained. I see dead trees that are about ready to come down and somebody could get hurt. Still a nice park if you're willing to settle for less than you had in years past.
M
Loved this campground!!! We stayed by the lake and had the best time. Campground was clean and well setup. The lake was stunning, crystal clear. At night the stars are so beautiful. Can't wait to visit again. Thanks for the great memories!
J
I secretly want to move there! Breath taking views!
N
It's a hot summer day and all the sites around us are empty! Must because of covid. The lake is a few short steps from our sight. Nice, level, wooded, roomy. There is a dishwashing station with hot water and the restrooms and showers are nice. We had no problem with the people running the campground. Other than checking in we really had no interactions with them. We will definitely come back.
S
We were there for a family camping trip, and it was really nice. The staff was friendly and courteous. It was family friendly atmosphere, clean camp site, clean facilities. The beach looked like a post card. I highly recommend it, I'll be back next year.
H
It is easy enough to pick up supplies and snacks in town. Lake Sebago ended up being an unexpected stop, and I'm glad for it! We needed a place to rest for the night and we ended up staying another day! Clean beach, great for couples or family. We showed up and checked in the same day in the middle of summer, no reservations. This was a fantastic place to snorkel and lounge on the beach. Facilities were all maintained and clean. I enjoyed how they had a stall to wash dishes. There is a playground and place for volleyball. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We camped in out tent and found the site easy to find. It was not very private, but you can't expect much at a campground! Do not bring out of state firewood, instead you can purchase on the honor system from nearby houses.
T
I've been camping here my entire life. The lake is gorgeous and thankfully they haven't yet sold out to people too scared to actually enjoy nature. The campgrounds smell of pine and wood smoke and the sound of children playing frequently permeates the air. There's plenty of hiking trails and paths to bike or walk on. The lake is perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, and fishing. The park rangers are friendly and dedicated to their job and to the environment. There's both camp sites and day areas so everyone can enjoy. I highly recommend visiting someday. It's easily one of my favorite places on earth.
K
I always loved this place growing up, still do. The best lake in the country, maybe the world. So clean and so big. When I go there and take a deep breath, it gives me such a good feeling. I love how theres grills there too. I wish they would open their snack shack and clean their bathrooms tabk. The last time I went there (june 2020) the bathrooms were all closed except for one stall and it was so filthy. Bit besides that it's a great place to take your family or just go to cool off!
C
My family has annual reunions and almost every time we end up choosing this location for it. I enjoy being in the woods once again with my family and having my children play in the water. It is almost always clean and well watched for the safety of the children which I also greatly appreciate.
C
Crowded but beautiful. I'd go earlier than our last trip (we arrived at 1pm). The beach area is cool for toddlers because there is a little shallow pool off the main lake.
w
Always a great park to go to. Whether going to the beach or launching the boat for the day. The park rangers and staff are very friendly. Very worth the trip whether it’s just for the day or to go camping I highly recommend stopping here if you are making a trip to Maine.
J
Great place to swim, the water is shallow enuff for the kids and always warm. But unfortunately it has barely any beach but if you like shade and pine needles, this beach is for you. Oh and crowds. So many people on peek days.
C
Beautiful place for camping. My family gets a group site because there are so many of us. The lagoon sites have a beautiful view. Almost looks more like the ocean than a lake. There's a playground and beach within walking distance. Plenty of space for a jog/walk/bike ride. Hope to be back every year.
D
The beach and lake are pristine. Sites are well situated and equipped. Park is clean. The downsides.... the parking control rangers are way over the top, and lack common sense or courtesy. They also fail to enforce quiet time, so getting good night's sleep is difficult.
J
Wonderful campground with a wonderful, friendly staff of rangers. The lake is pristine and the beach was great for both swimming and boating.
w
Grew up in this park has always been a nice clean place to swim or just enjoy the beautiful views of Sebago Lake
