Really nice hike. My dog and i did the whole Indian loop trail - it has been rerouted around private land so no worries there. I’d bring bear spray with you. Lots of mountain lion evidence.

Great hike. Did the 6 mile Indian Loop Trail hike. If you have bad knees i would not recommend this hike. There are several peaks to climb up to get an excellent view of the surrounding area including Chaporrosa Peak. Take trekking poles if you have them. They help alot. As far as wildlife, i saw lizards, bees, 1 butterfly, chipmunks, birds, and 1 jackrabbit. The trail through the wetlands area of the hike has some serious overgrowth so i would recommend to the staff to take care of that. If you want solitude away from the nearby crowds at Joshua Tree Nat'l Park come here. And best of all, its free.

Very nice preserve with good trails. The areas with water are much cooler in temperature, so you get a little break from the heat. When I went, I only saw 5 people, so it was quiet and peaceful.

These trails are beautiful and challenging enough. It's close by and not crowded. One of my favorite local hikes!

Pioneertown Mountains Preserve is a nice preserve to visit with two large loop trails and some unique scenery and historic sites. There is an old homestead site ruin and petroglyphs along the main loop trail, and a creek which runs through the large wash. Worth a visit to go hiking if in the area.

Beautiful hiking area, fantastic views of rock formations and an old homestead ruins, few people on a Monday. We did the pipes canyon loop with the Chaparrosa Peak extension @ 8.5 miles and 1500' gain. The Wildlands Conservancy is a wonderful organization. Always free and dog friendly. We love and support them.

This is a great little hike. Some good up hill then back down. Very few people on the trail. Little patches of snow here and there.

This place is a gem. Not too far to drive from Yucca Valley, free parking, no day use fee and dogs are allowed. I’ve hiked Chaparrosa Peak and Indian Loop and they are both great. If it is hot do the first part of the loop counterclockwise to Olsen Ruins and back. It has a lot of shade and follows a cool stream. You might see Roamer, the Ranger’s dog. Roamer has a tag that says he is allowed to hike with people. He is a good guide and loves beef jerky.
