PenFed is a good Credit Union with good products. Their website is user friendly and customer service is always available without having to wait more 4 minutes. The only thing I would like to see from their credit cards would be a 12 months of no APR and not just on balance transfers. The personal loans rates at 17.99% OUCH…and that’s with excellent to good credit. Nonetheless I am satisfied to be a member of PenFed!!!

I applied for a loan and the experience was AWESOME! The application was easy to complete and was very thorough. The process made me feel very comfortable in applying. All my information was verified with codes, which assured me that my account would never be compromised like a bank. Excellent Credit Union to do business with. I was researching multiple banking and loan companies for a personal loan. PenFed’s online application process was very easy and I received my loan approval within minutes of completion. The % rate and loan terms that I received was better than all other personal loan offers that I was researching. I like that I now have a savings account with PenFed as well.

The online application was very simple and easy to fill out. The submission process however left a lot to be desired. I never was able to submit the application and finally cast myself into the helpful hands of one of the customer service agents. She was very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

I will be forever be grateful to PenFed for allowing me to get a loan with them. I have tried several times to get loans and credit cards and unfortunately it was not to my favor. However, with PenFed, I got approved in no time! As a retired Air Force veteran, I will be forever grateful to PenFed with trusting me and assisting me doing my time of need! I would have given 5 stars, but they made me start a whole new application because I listed the husbands name as the seller but the wife was on the title. It would have been far easier to let me edit the husbands first name and replace with his wife, but I had to void the first application and start from scratch. Other than that, the process was fantastic and I would highly recommend.

They have great service and competitive rates. I have had a savings account, checking account, an automobile loan and a personal loan through them. I have never had any problems and it has all been done online. I don’t think I have ever had the need to speak with anyone. It just works.

The process was so smooth, from the application, to loading documents and to the final approval. PenFed did a superb job and I wish all the financial institutions follows your lead. In all my years of experience, this was the best in refinancing. JOB WELL DONE. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

I completed a loan application for a Signature Loan and was approved at a fixed APR of 12.49% for 60 months. When I went to complete the paperwork, I discovered the mailing address for me was incorrect. At that time, I called the 800 # and an account representative advised me she could not change my address. She suggested I instead withdraw the application and reapply to correct the address. She also suggested that I create my membership so that the loan would be linked with the membership. I did as she advised and resubmitted my loan application. This new loan was a fixed APR of 17.99% for 60 months. I am not sure why the offer has changed in only a few hours. I called the 800 # again and was told by an account representative to accept the new loan with the new terms and submit a request and writing to change back to the original terms. I told her I didn’t feel comfortable with that and I would submit my request in writing FIRST and then accept the loan once the original terms were back in place. All I ever received in regard to my request was a curt email that stated they can’t change loan terms and to just accept the new one. No thank you! And, they assured me this would not affect my credit as it was a “soft inquiry”. WRONG! It does show as an inquiry on my credit. I feel like I got scammed. I do not recommend PenFed. I do however recommend Customer’s Bank. They did everything PenFed couldn’t! And they did it with no hassle and a great rate!

Very disappointed with this company. I applied for a personal loan, they lost my application, and asked me to do another one. Mind you they ran my credit already. They told me if I did another app they would not have to run my credit again. As soon as I submitted the second application, they ran my credit again. I’m currently in the middle of trying to get them remove one of those credit inquiries off my report. You’d think they would be honorable and just do it but that’s not the case. Overall this company is not professional and I do not recommend them. Such a shame!

PenFed has low interest loans, fast approvals, and supports military personnel and veterans. What's not to love? I live in NYS and my PenFed branch was at the Pentagon. Location has never been an issue, I have always had prompt service and have completed loan applications online very simply. Customer service has been excellent, extended hours and patient phone personnel to order checks, reset a password or access my online account.

WOW! Never experienced a quicker application approval. So smooth and fast I had to call back to set up the payment plan. No hick ups, great terms, and interest rate beat all others fiercely. Great people to work with, very professional paying attention to detail and customer experience. My go to for financial needs in future.

The online application process failed to set up both the basic share account and the CD I purchased in joint ownership and their reps tell me the IT department can't tell them when they will fix the issue, leaving a substantial amount of my investment without insurance protection. The phone staff are very nice but the company fails at the most basic levels of IT competency. I will not be using their services again and recommend against investing with them.

Recently joined PenFed CU for their very competitive IRA rates. I managed to lock in a two year term at 2.70%, which in this economy today is like finding gold! Great customer service and a very easy app to use on my phone. Check out PenFed today!!

I don't like the lack of information provided up front... it seems as though customer service is only willing to volunteer important details (such as, "your checking account doesn't include a debit card" or "we will be glad to open an account for you -- a restricted account that cannot deposit checks nor receive ACH transfers, and no withdrawals either.") Everything seems to be communicated after-the-fact, via US postal mail. The only good thing about this Pentagon Federal CU is the fact that it is extremely easy to qualify for an account... But, keep in mind, it may be a restricted account that is absolutely useless!

I would highly recommend that you contact PenFed for a refinance of your home or automobile. I just refinanced my car and was able to pull out $8,000 over and above my $10,000 payoff and I still saved $100 a month because my interest rate was cut in half! You can also buy new cars with them at the best rate!

The personal loan application process was easy from start to finish. Pre approval tells you what you qualify upfront so you are aware of your options. I’m now also a member with a savings account that I plan to save money for a new vehicle with.

I received a mailing from PenFed, and I didn't respond right away due to being out of town. Once I went online, the whole process took less than 5 to 10 minutes. It was effortless and made my life so easy. I would highly recommend doing business with them.

In this car market, I do not recommend using PenFed for an auto loan. While they offer very competitive rates, and an adequate website, the time it takes to cut a loan check is not optimal. I’m waiting now for the check to be sent to a dealer on a car which they may give to another customer if they don’t receive the funds in the next few days.

Worked on for over 45 days applying for a HELOC for the process to not be completed properly and be closed after the processor ghosted me. Perfect way no longer babble and could’ve been completed and approved had they paid attention and made the proper a adjustments. PenFed has been a pleasure to do business with. Others were offering me a loan at 11-13% and PenFed came through at 7.00% The application was easy compared to others. I did not even have to send in supporting documents, proof of income...etc. I had a check in less than a week. Full disclosure; I was pre-approved by submitting to a loan search called Creditify who guarantees to get the lowest interest rate.

The certificate application process was easy and straight to the point. I completed the process in less than 3 minutes. The dividend rates are the best I've seen at a credit union.

The Member Services rep went above and beyond to provide me with the answers to all my questions and walked me thru the auto loan approval and buying process. She also offered me additional PedFed products and services ( credit card offers) and gave me great feedback on the best cards and benefits. One of the best banking services experience I can recall in the past 5-10 years. Best of all I received the absolute lowest interest rate ever for a used car loan of around 4%. I’ve purchased multiple cars over the part 10 plus years and I was a loyal Capital One Auto Finance customer because of the low rates I received. Cap One Auto cannot even compare with PenFed. Cap One auto loan rates specifically for Used Autos can vary from 3% up to 14.9% percent based on the specific models, dealerships, year of the car and loan terms, etc. With Penfed no big rate difference as long as the vehicle is within 15-20 years old and under a certain mileage you get the same awesome low interest rate 36 month vs 72 month loan is a difference of less than 0.5%. I LOVE PENFED!!

Great rates! Transparent! Easy to work with! No run around. Before trying PenFed I tried to refinance with iLendingDIRECT who I found through LendingTree. iLendingDIRECT made me go through a process of sending a bunch of documents as if they were going to give me a loan. They told me my car’s value was $5,000 less than the NADA retail value. They pulled my credit and the guy on the phone said I had remarkable credit and told me not to let anyone else pull my credit because it would affect the kind of deal they could give me. When I called them on lowballing the value of my car and informed them I would be shopping rates with other lenders, they later called me and told me there was nothing they could do for me. The whole thing felt shady. The contrast with PenFed couldn’t be greater. I applied online and got pre approved in minutes. The next day they asked for some documents. The day after that they gave final approval and notified me they would be mailing the check. Their rate was lower than the one advertised by iLendingDIRECT to boot. I couldn’t be happier with my experience with PenFed and will recommend them to my friends and family.

This was an easy on-line application process and easy to transfer funds. I am happy with deposit interest rates that are much, much, higher than commercial banks and even other local credit unions.

Very disappointed with their car buying service. I applied for a car loan and learned that the bank had to send a manual check to me via "snail mail." It took 5 days for the physical check to get to me. Luckily, the vehicle I was trying to purchase was still available. I was told that had the vehicle was no longer available, they will have to cancel the check and have to do the entire process all over again (since it was named to a specific dealership and vehicle). How backwards was that? Have this bank heard of electronic funds transfer? Or overnight FEDEX/UPS at the very least? I don't bank with PENFED and really don't know why I went with them for this car loan. Wish I could've just used the dealership's bank or my bank NAVYFED, but I didn't want multiple inquiries on my credit and affect my score. At any rate, this bank just gave me an unduly stress in this car buying process. I can't believe this bank still operate like it's 1999.

And a new member of the bank and so far I'm very satisfied with it. I have a problem opening bank account with traditional Banks however PenFed offered me a restricted account which is more like a second chance checking I'm highly satisfied with their service and customer support

Staff doesn't know what its doing. Poorly educated on how the account process works. Why approve a credit card and then not tell me how to fund the account so they would send the credit card. Wish I had never started the CC application.

I was left to believe I was prequalified for a plc but found out just what ppl was saying about PenFed was absolutely true I have amazing credit wouldn’t have applied if I wasn’t prequalified know I’m stuck with a hard inquiry on my credit I will never accept any products from PenFed besides my checking and savings I wouldn’t waste my time begging them for a reconsideration because they only would deny you anyway loin navy instead no empathy to clients credit just a scam don’t do it stay away horrible outcomes 👍👍

Staff are kind. That's about all I can say that's good. My loan is taking multiple days even though I'm already approved. First day they were having network issues so they were going to call me the next day. Never did. So we went in person to finalize the process and they said they could only give me 9% of my loan because they submitted 6 applications. Then I had to call the loan office myself and clear their mistakes. Once cleared I was re-approved for my original amount and went back inside to get the check printed. Now they're telling me it won't print and they don't know why. I asked if they could call IT since we had been waiting for 3 hours and they called but no one answered. Very disappointed.

Did business with PenFed and then received an email asking to complete a survey on their performance saying "PenFed values your opinion...", and you know what? I believe them. They were amazing to work with. I'm very glad I found them.

I applied for a vehicle refinance. My VIN number was not recognized by them. When I called in, they told me they use NADAguides database for vin numbers. It appears to be their database is not very accurate and severely outdated. I would not recommend this credit union for your refinance. Rate was good but not lowest at the market. I finally got refinanced with Digital credit union ( DCU ) with 1.49%apr. PenFED rate was 2.49%

The. Worst. Period. These idiots should be issuing small business loans to ice cream trucks in the middle of Nebraska somewhere. I've called four times because their website is "having problems" allowing anyone to review and e-sign their approved loan. I've called 4 times over two days to rectify the problem and bring them business in the way of an auto loan - disconnected once, told that I don't exist in the system (I have the email stating my auto loan has been approved with the application number), third person refused to send me to a supervisor, fourth person said it's impossible that I have a loan in the works because I'm not a member, despite me looking at the loan approval online ... etc. Bush-league staffing, and poor training. Good luck, but taking my business elsewhere. The. Worst.

On account of your online system 'crash' plus your staff, money got withdrawn 2x (not 1x) from my old bank. And to top it off, your bank wanted to charge me for correcting the mistake. HOW COULD I POSSIBLY RECOMMEND YOUR BANK?

This has been the worst experience so far to get an address corrected that I didn’t enter on signing up for an account of 3/4/22 (Uploaded DL as a verification as well) and it’s still not fixed as of 3/11/22. This is totally unexpected of a PENFED CU which it totally unacceptable at this present time with all the technology available. Went from a 1 Star to a 4 Star. Finally reached someone on the phone on 3/11/22 @ 1500 hrs. Talked to a Sales Rep who was finally able to help me fix my address and the rest of my double merged profile. Thanks a lot. Now I can finally set up the rest of my accounts. Thanks.

If you apply for a heloc loan it’s really confusing and takes a long time plus most people I talked to at penfed weren’t that informed on the process of the loan…. But other than that super friendly people…

I was approved for a credit card, but then I called them to ask for them to cancel the card the next day. They refused to cancel the card and said I have to take it. I will be disputing the card with the credit bureaus because I asked to cancel it.

They gave me as good a rate as possible based on my credit score and everyone I talked with tried to help speed the process along. When I told them the loan was time sensitive they were able to send the check to me Fed Ex overnight so I could complete the purchase. All the loan documents they sent are clear and transparent. I like working with Pen Fed on auto loans!

If you prequalify a prospective customer why then you reject it AND to add insult to injury, subtract points to the credit score? Then you should not pre approve prospective customers, what's the use of pre approving if you will not approve the loan?

I am unable to log in to my account for two months no matter what I tried, I tried to reset password, log in a different phone a different computer, I called over 10 times I get error messages everyone promises my I will get do ei e to call me back with a resolution and no one does. I have a great credit score and was never unable to pay a bill. I made the payment over the phone two days ago and NO money was withdrawn from my bank account. If this awful bank ruins my credit I will make a damage to this Penfed I will sue you!! My credit is absolutely impeccable and they are out there to destroy it. Awful ! Incompetent !

It started off promising. One of the staff was friendly and helpful but next 5 times I call everyone was rushing me and provide incomplete and misleading information. I wanted to get a loan to get a car and the whole process ended up being so hard to follow, understand and VERY long to get the account. I gave up before I could get to the car loan. The low APR is tempting but I’d rather pay more and not waste hours every time I have a problem and need to talk with someone…

I must say that I was VERY impressed with their entire new client account process. I set it up online but had a SNAFU getting started with online access, so I had to call Customer Service. I spoke with Drew, who was a delight. Very kind, caring & solicitous. I wish all customer service care agents were this kind & helpful. Hold time was 1 minute, if that. He straightened everything out. It was my fault. IDK about the member ID # that you need to provide to initially set up the account online. Easy fix. He told me where to find it, walked me through the rest of the setup to make sure everything was kosher & it was. In all my years of banking, I've never been more impressed. I highly recommend them & their services. I'm a lifer now.

I am still not sure I believe I was approved because I am waiting for the check in the mail. It took like 5 minutes and they didn't ask me to verify income or provide any documentation. They must have some amazing software that can figure out if you qualify. I took a pretty large amount of money for debt consolidation and I am very happy with the rate they gave me. This had to be the easiest loan request I have ever done. Thanks!

I've had a Pen Fed credit card and savings account for over a year and have had no issues with it at all. The biggest plus is they HAVE NOT been hacked, which means their security is top notch. I have another credit card that has been hacked twice, so not being hacked is a big deal. I recently opened a checking account with them and I expect it will be as good as the savings account. I plan on staying with them and I highly recommend them.

The best decision I made was joining Penfed CU. A very easy website and app to navigate and smooth transfers between my bank and savings. Loved Penfed CU for keeping it simple. Also good loans system with security when hit with large repair bills and condo costs you have to go through for maintenance and upgrades. Always trust Penfed CU to be there when I need them with fair rates and painless sign up processes.

Easy approval and good rate online and that's where it ends. No good instructions. Different responses with every phone call. 20 to 30 minutes hold for each call. Never did get it straight to get financing in 3 days. So I did quick dealership application. 10 minutes to get approved from Chase Bank through dealership at very low interest and easy process. Out the door in 20 minutes.

I had the absolutely worst auto loan application experience I’ve ever had with PenFed. First of all, I didn’t get an immediate response when I submitted my information online. I’m not sure I’ve ever applied for an auto loan online that didn’t give me an automatic approval or disapproval. The next problem was using their secure upload page. The page would never stop loading after I submitted the documents Penfed requested and it literally took me about an hour and at least 10 tries to get the documents uploaded. I stuck with it because the initial "pre-approval" indicated a significantly lower interest rate than other banks were offering me. And then once I was finally able to submit the paperwork through the secure upload page I kept getting different information and requests for documents from reps as well as some reps telling me my documents had been reviewed and the last one I spoke with said they hadn't been reviewed. I was told this morning that the approval for the loan would come back this afternoon and when I called back, about four days after initially applying for this auto loan, I was told it could take another 5-6 more days for the approval process. No thank you I’ll take my business somewhere else!

After the rate was confirmed by phone I submitted the application and received an approval at 5.74% ps my credit score is mid 700s

PenFed is a good place to find higher CD rates and their website works very well.

Penfed’s removal of support for syncing its data with financial management software (like Mint.com) is an embarrassing lack of capability for a company that has millions of customers and billions in assets. This capability is very common and supported by the vast majority of banks, from large ones like Bank of America to small hometown banks down the street. PenFed says this isn’t about security. They say it is about bandwidth. Bandwidth? Are we to believe that the nation’s third largest credit union does not have a robust IT infrastructure to handle the downloads of basic financial data? Not even during “off-peak” hours? PenFed does know how to do this. They supported this capability until a few weeks ago when the upgraded their website “to improve the customer experience.” It seems like they are out of touch with their customers, as my financial management software company says they are now getting many complaints about PenFed’s lack of support. PLEASE REINSTATE SUPPORT for this capability similar to every other bank I am aware of. Financial management software saves its users time, facilitates sound financial decisions, and protects accounts from fraud by enabling quick identification of issues across multiple accounts. Without this capability, it is like looking at the Grand Canyon through a soda straw.

PENFED helped me when I needed it. I appreciate all the help they’ve given me. I recommend this PENFED to anyone who is faced with difficult occurrences in their daily lives.

Recently opened an account with PenFed and obtained an Auto Loan. The online application was one of the easiest to navigate and complete ever experienced. The branch that helped me finalize account and loan were some of the most gracious and helpful ever worked with. I look forward to working with them on other business matters.

People were very nice to work with but they seemed to be very inefficient and undependable. I was promised a loan proceeds check by two service people on a certain day and they never even sent it out by that day. I had problems getting my loan through underwriting as well and I have an 809+ credit score.

PENFED is a hidden bank gem. The application process is easy, and they have competitive rates. I’ve banked with USAA for 17 years and Navy Fed for around the same, and they didn’t come close to the rate I received from PENFED. After creating my account, I searched the site for services and was equally impressed. I’m a completely satisfied customer.

Worst company to work with. The customer service was horrible. It takes forever just to reach a representative. It took over a week just for my application to be viewed and approved. Even after they approved me I declined the poor offer they gave and went with another company that accepted me in just minutes and started my loan. This company advertising such “low rates” but they offer you whatever they want. My credit score is 770 and they offered me such a horrible rate for auto refinance. This company is a joke. Run away! Go with someone who truly cares to help you.

Let me just say go here first. Save time ,money and hassles. They were simple the best and everyone sounds so cheerful on the phone. I should add Being a cash person for decades and discovering just because you don't have bad credit doesn't mean you can get what you deserve when you want. These people helped me reduce my car payment interested by I am embarrassed to admit 17.7% after only having the loan for 8 months when no one else would touch it. They have saved me thousands of dollars and reduced my term by 4 months while reducing my mouthily payment by $190.00 ..

They get 3 stars because I haven't done enough business with them to rate otherwise. My problem arose in the application process. I went online to open an account, gave my debit card number for opening deposit, submitted identity verification documents and more than a week later, I still cannot access my accounts online. Turns out I had an account with them more than 8 years ago. It was not left in bad standing but was in my maiden name. When I was opening this new account, I submitted 2 IDs. My old one and my new one along with my marriage certificate. If other financial institutions can verify my identity, then what is PenFed's issue with verifying my identity when they have more than enough sufficient, valid documentation to do so? That is why they get 3. They may very well be a great organization but I am yet to truly find out because I can't utilize their products.

Getting a loan was such a hassle. I'm not sure where all the documents I had to upload went. They were requested multiple times to be uploaded again. It took a week to get a decision on a minimal loan.

My recent experience with PENFED was outstanding, the credit card application process was easy very easy. I applied for one card I was denied but gave me a counter offer to another credit card. That was the first time and bank or credit union gave me a counter offer. Needless to say I will be moving my funds from my credit union to PENFED Thank you!!

I received a mailing from PenFed about a credit card with a lower interest rate than "WHAT'S IN MY WALLET" and I'm better for it. Saving money on lower interest and a nice balance to boot. Great rates but expect to make 7-10 calls to get all the info you need and loan actually completed. Had to re upload documents multiple times and receive constant emails asking for documents they already had. Give different info on what's required depending on who you talk to. 5th car loan I've done and never had it be so difficult.

So far my experience has been great! I was pre-approved so I submitted and application for a loan to pay off some credit cards and help with medical expenses. The application was super easy to do. PenFed offered a competitive rate personal loan. The customer service was very helpful and actually followed through immediately on all inquiries by me. I accepted their offer and found their process to be easy and quick. I will likely open other types of savings accounts with them because every person I spoke with seemed to actually know answers and there was no waiting for supervisors or anything else. That hardly happens anymore.

Easy loan application process. Was approved online in the manner of minutes. Easy process, simple questions and easy to understand. Only reason I am deducting a star is because there wasn't an option to have the funds wire/bank transferred directly into an account of choice like other loans I've taken out in the past. They draft a check which delays the process even longer for the funds to clear. The check is also not mailed with a tracking number, so it leaves a person to be worried that it can get lost in transit with our good old post office system. Check arrived safely several days after acceptance. Then another few days for clearing. Would be nice to just send direct and elevate the delay and worry of it getting lost.

NEVER use PenFed. I applied for a loan, got approved at a good rate, but the car I was interested in was sold out from under me. When I told PenFed I wanted to use that loan approval for another car, they said I'd have to reapply. Meaning, my credit score would take another hit AND I wasn't guaranteed I'd get the same rate as before!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, UNREASONABLE AND UNHELPFUL. I requested a loan, everything was fine until they noticed a difference on my pay stub of less than $100. I explained to them that I was on vacation, so I didn’t pick up any overtime that week, I offered to send extra proof of income, W2 form, but they wanted me to send them my future pay stub, I get paid on 3/31/22, if I could wait for that check, then I wouldn’t need them, I had an expected expense which is why I applied in the first place. I cancelled the procedure for the loan right there and I get an email trying to explain why the loan was denied. I pulled my application and they want to act as if I was deemed not worthy which is an insult. I sent a request to fix this and to not contact me again, but they keep doing it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.

Super easy application process. The loan was approved on Monday, and I received the Loan check to deposit in my personal checking account on Thursday. This is by far the easiest and most efficient loan process I have ever had. I recommend PenFed 100%.

We were approved for an auto refinance loan very quickly, but getting their online application process to function is a nightmare. We were approved almost two weeks ago, but they will not release a check until digital forms are signed electronically, and they cannot make these forms function properly without error messages.

Didn’t workout because they require a paper signature card, but they can’t receive it several weeks after I sent it. The only help the rep can provide is to mail me the form again. This communication tunnel is broken, I see there could be all kinds of trouble in the future therefore I decided to cancel membership. The interest rate is very attractive but doesn’t help if I can’t even transfer fund.

I tried to link a second external account to my Penfed account and received an message saying there was an error. I have tried again over 5 times and called 4 times trying to resolve this. No one seems to be able to help me. All I get is reassurance that it is an IT issue and they will issue a work order to resolve it. 4 weeks later and no resolution. I worked in IT for 30 years and if I took more than 48 hours to resolve a work order I would be fired. Their customer service is very poor.

PedFed is an excellent organization to do business with. They fix problems before you can call about them, and they are available seven days a week on the phone. The only minor thing is I had a little difficulty finding their customer service number on the website, but I finally found it. I just became a member last weekend.

The application for the loan went smoothly. Communication is now handled primarily electronically as with most businesses but generally satisfactory. BUT everything went to hell for the closing. Our closing agent did not get the closing documentation; we were not given the correct amount to provide for closing and the closing was delayed by nearly 3 hours. All of this should have taken place 24 hours prior to scheduled time.

The products and services offered are far better than a regular bank account in my opinion by offering high percentage cash back and waiving the monthly fees. I recommend to all.

The online portal is great. The customer service call line is excellent, the representative's are courteous, knowledgable, pleasant, and goes above and beyond to assist you. These two departments deserve 5 stars read why I gave 2 stars. I was extremely disappoint with the San Antonio home mortgage dept. I applied for a home mortgage loan July 2021, I could never get my loan officer on the phone I always spoke to her voicemail, I received a call back maybe 48 hrs later, also sent emails that were not answered in a timely manner. It took this loan office e weeks to send my application to processing even though all the documents were upload within 48 hrs the 2nd day I applied for the loan. 3 weeks later Thursday at 4pm the processor advised me the uploaded documents were too light too read, I inform him I was getting close to my closing date I would overnight the documents,. I rushed to UPS & faxed the documents overnight which cost me $100, he said when they arrive he would work on processing my application .Documents arrived Friday morning at 10am I called the processor advised him they delivered and were at the front desk, he advised me"""when he had time."""he would get to them. After spending all this money to get my documents there before the end of the business day Friday he could not go down and even pick them up and review them to see if they met his approval. When I hung up I called my realtor she referred me to another Mortgage company. Within 48 hrs. my documents were sent to the processor & within 72 hrs. I received approval. The home loan mortgage department personnel needs to be trained in customer service and getting loans process in an efficient and timely manner. They showed no interest in me as a customer. I don't know what is going on in that department about 10 years earlier I applied for a home equity loan with 48 hrs everything was process and approve,> What happen in 10 years to your loan department, it went from a pleasant experience to a nightmare. I would have given 5 stars but the mortgage department is bringing this great credit union down.

So for, I am very pleased with my experience with PenFed Credit Union. I was referred to PenFed by a Contractor for A Home improvement loan. The process was simple and easy. My only problem came in submitting the required documents. Once that phase was completed, approval came pretty quick. I believe as early as the next day, I was able to sign the necessary documents electronically. Once I signed the necessary documents, I was informed that my loan check would be in the mail within 24 hours. Now, I am just waiting for the arrival of the check so that I can contact the Contractor so the home improvement can begin. I will do an update to this post once I have the check in hand so that the work can begin. Now, I feel that my interest rate was a bit high. Especially with me being a U. S. Veteran with an Honorable Discharge. Other than that, the process went smoothly. I will definitely apply with PenFed again if the need arises. I highly recommend PenFed for anyone who may be in of a loan for Home Improvements.

I have been a member of PenFed for over a year and it is now my main bank, also I refinanced my car with them. I was used to going to the branches in person but now with PenFed I am used to doing everything through its Internet portal, it is more convenient for me, there will be people who do not like this but you can get used to it.

Very convenient: - Applied for an Auto Loan Online and got instant approval - Best rate I found - All online, did not speak to a single soul(Avoided call times, holds, and information mix ups) Downside: When applying, I was not made aware funds and documents would be mailed out, taking 3+ days to arrive. I got approved last Friday morning on 12/24/2021 I have yet to receive anything in the mail. I reached out to see if documents and such can be provided electronically so I can print these out myself and provide account details to dealer directly. All I got was a response telling me what I already knew, items are in the mail. Tracking unavailable. Luckily the vehicle I want has not sold yet, will update with whatever happens. Update: Funds came in, purchased the vehicle. No issues thus far.

PenFed actually has someone that answers the phone! Rates of return are much better than I can get at Vanguard, etc. Website is easy to navigate. Easy to move money between accounts and to and from external sources.

Great customer service experience. PENFED's interest rates on savings accounts are in my opinion the best in the bank market. A premier savings account will pay you 0.55% .

Open an account one day and find out the bank closed two days later not good for your business or a costumer that wanted to do business with your bank. I think if you call the client with concerns about their accounts instead of closing them without a probable cause is very bad for business too

This was the first time I did an online loan application and it was very stress free and fast. In the three days it took my bank to approve the online loan and set up a meeting to sign the paperwork , I had already been approved within 30 minutes with PenFed Credit Union, sign the promissory note, signed up to join the credit union, verified my checking and had a message that I would receive a check in 5-7 business days. From start to finish ... 3 business days. I talked to a customer rep. who was very friendly and very knowledgeable. I will definitely think of them for any further financial needs.

This sounds great but please look for another option...the rates are ok, nothing great, But the worst part is applying for an auto loan takes about 3 days to clear and then they MAIL you a check and package that you have to sign and THEN send it to the seller...this whole thing is 8 days into and still no check.....ask them where is it, they say if i do not get it in 72 hours to call them back and they will reissue another??? just terrible if you are buying a car and need to get things done quickly. SO, I am probably going to lose out on the car i have been searching for the last month because penfed can't seem to move into the year 2005....i would say unless ONLY option left DO NOT USE FOR AUTO LOANS.....Update the check they promised went out last week(6 days ago) now only went out 2 days ago. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE...DO NOT USE!!!!

Worst experience I have ever had since day one was offered a useless checking account. Myself being a military veteran and I am offered a below average checking account. Absolutely a waste of time. Would recommend a high interest check cashing establishment over PenFed. Please don't waste your time.

With application process I have no problem is the distribution of the approved credit card that's my issue I received notice that I was approved 3 weeks ago and still have not received a credit card. no bal on the card so I now is distribution I worked for CoreStates in the 80's and know when dis is happening.

Everything is good except when you have to change something then you got to do stuff that they want you to do but you can't do it because that's not how things go

The pre-approval I received from PenFed Credit Union was true to my approval to my signature loan. I tried two other companies and was downsized significantly from the pre-approval amount and increased the interest the loan would have cost me. I needed help uploading documents and the customer service was hands down better than any other company I've spoken with. They truly worked with me in finding a solution and never rushed the call.

Great experience with this financial institution. My application for an auto loan was completed within a few minutes and i was approved instantly. They asked me to upload a few basic documents (ID, SS, utility bill, and Purchase Order) and that same day they sent me an email notification that the check was already mailed via UPS to the dealership. Quick fast service, with great low monthly rates. Looking forward to refinancing my home mortgage with PenFed.

Awful experience trying to open a certificate account with this institution. Multiple calls and multiple documents needed and sent and after a week the account is still not setup properly. I'd leave but I'm afraid they'll try to charge the heck out of me with some type of termination fee. Just be prepared for a hassle

Made the account because my grandma needed an account for her business and with the 1st deposit (check) they closed the account claiming that it was fraud . We thought that maybe if we talked to them we could get ahold of the fraud department but the young lady just told us the account was closed forever ( never got transferred to the fraud department) which I believe was EXTREMELY unprofessional and I wouldn’t recommend this bank to anyone who is the owner of their own business. Also said the check was sent back but that was 100% a lie.

PenFed has good rates, an easy loan process, and prompt customer service. If you are looking to refinance your student loan, they are a good choice.

I need to contact you and I can't, I opened a premium saving account, which doesn't let me move my money, I really want to cancel it because it doesn't let me make transactions and there is no customer service, nor does it let you close the online account.

Trying to navigate this company through their phone system is abysmal. I have yet to get an answer in under 30 minutes. I had been with the previous credit union for over 35 years before PenFed took over. If things go wrong one more time I'll looking for another institution.

I have banked with PenFed for almost everything: checking, savings, credit card, mortgage, and auto loan. You can't beat their rates and great customer service.

I have never had to jump through hoops to get a $30k auto loan than I did with Pen Fed. I have multiple 6 figures in income and assets and had to fight to get approved for my loan. I finally got approved and was told to drive to the nearest branch to pick up the checks. I drove 130 miles to San Diego to pick them up all for them to tell me they can’t print checks and to wait in the mail. It’s been over a week and I still don’t have any checks. Once I get them and get the car I’m paying it off so pen fed has nothing to do with me. Joke of a credit union.

Your online process is very poor. Only your high interest rate on CDs might entice me to continue to invest again with PenFed. When I compare your online processes with others that I invest with [Ally, Comenity, Marcus & even Treasury Direct, you come in dead last. Here in Texas, we'd say that you are a "one trick, pony". Thinks that I think that you should improve: A. Up front, announce that you must JOIN PenFed before you can invest. B. After 3 phone calls, I finally understood some [but not all of your process requirements. Note: I was CHARGED extra for one of them; I think $5.00 to help me invest with PenFed. C. I'm still not sure why AFTER requesting immediate verification of my banking link, I was required to ID the $.07 & $.04 amounts you send to my link. I still have not done that, I think, but I'm not sure. D. Suggestion: Buy a CD somewhere else online, and compare your handling with others. Compete, or only attract by rates, not customer service.

Great rates offered and easy to secure a loan for various reasons. I got one for a home remodel and it took less than 2 hours to complete everything.

I recently purchased a car and the dealership set me up with a loan from PenFed Credit Union. I have not been able to log into my PenFed account despite numerous calls to the service desk, and IT team. I provided screen shots of the errors I receive when logging in and after 2 weeks cannot access my account. I still don't have any paperwork even saying I have a loan with them. I don't know the account number or terms other than what I signed at the dealership. I asked to be changed to paper billing since the PenFed app and website won't work for me and they want to charge $2 a month for paper billing. Updating to 3 stars. After calling the service desk again, they had me create a new account which worked. Don't know why this wasn't the approach tried the other times I called and emailed with tech support.

Friendly and knowledgeable.... When you can get in contact with them. Since the 13th of December I've tried to get ahold of my loan officer, my loan officers manager, and on the 17th, the managers supervisor. I left several voicemails and emails. Yesterday the 28th, I tried again. I told the representative that I was closing that day, and needed to talk to ANY member of my team. No call....not even on closing day. Unacceptable. If you're looking for new mortgage or a refinance, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

I was sent an offer for a loan in the mail. It didn't go as smoothly as possible since my credit was locked. I spoke to a really nice lady on the phone who helped me with the process. I am still not finished with the completion of the loan...but I am looking forward to a long prosperous relationship with Penfed.

I just gave PenFed very poor feedback on their survey and then they asked me to write a Google review as well, so I'm happy to share here too. As you'll probably see from the average of my other reviews, I'm generally pretty easy to please, but I've had an amazingly bad experience trying to apply to them over the last two weeks. I've sent a state ID, my social security card, and multiple different utility company documents, and they still say they're unable to verify my ID. I've applied for half a dozen accounts over the last decade with multiple different financial institutions and I've never had to do this much to prove who I am. I've received conflicting info from the different reps I've spoken with and I'd like to just give up at this point but I'm frustrated because they've accumulated so much of my info and have already pulled my credit, which tends to have a negative impact on the score and I'm looking to buy a house soon. Save your time and effort and look at a different institution.

It is very easy to register online with PenFed. Acceptance is done speedily and it doesn't matter whether you live on the US mainland or in the territory your application is given the same importance.

Online application process is flawed. Access to Help Call Center is almost non existent. Prepare for being disconnected and or hourlong wait times. Terrible customer service.

Pleasantly surprised by the entire client service experience PenFed provided. The loan application was easy with a fast 48 hour response. PenFed beat the rate my bank of almost 40 years and several paid in full loans in my history with them. And the cherry on top is the representative was friendly, professional and knowledgeable.
