This is a great campground. The staff are great! Very friendly and helpful. I couldn't have been more pleased. Our site was gorgeous with beautiful sunrises. Our site had a great stone fire pit, a glider fireside, and a great picnic table and 4 chairs on a deck. We were here in early Spring so bugs and heat weren't an issue. We also pre-booked another trip for October before we left!

    Response from the owner

Really glad you had a positive experience. Thanks for reviewing. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Beautiful well-maintained grounds. Efficient and helpful staff. Remote and serene location. Amenities are perfect for my husband and I. We did lots of walking and enjoyed all of the other dog lovers. Very clean bathrooms and showers. Daily garbage pick up at your site. We hope to come back in the fall!!

    Response from the owner

Hi Susan, thanks for the great review. We hope to see you again soon!

Staff are genuinely friendly. Plenty to do here and the landscape is picture perfect. Some of the newbies need to know of campground etiquette, but that is not the fault of the campground. The sound is about waist deep or so, for as long as you can see. This is the largest swimming hole and very clean. Perfect campground to take the family.

    Response from the owner

Michael, we’re so happy to hear you had a good experience. We look forward to serving you again soon!

Pricey and a long way from pretty much anything. The last few miles into the park is on a very narrow road (not enough for 2 rigs to pass). Gravel sites, fairly spacious. Ours was level. Wi-fi was very good overall. The laundry was WAY UNDERSIZED for a park this big (only 3 washers). Lots of nice area to walk with some good nature trails. Parts of the park can get very noisy with weekend warriors. As with most RV parks there were people that ignored the rules - especially the one regarding the speed limit. If rules are not enforced, people will ignore them.

    Response from the owner

Hi Dennis, we wish your experience could have been better, but appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We are always looking for ways to increase customer satisfaction and will pass your comments along to management.

Indifferent and unhelpful check-in staff who seemed annoyed that we were there! Specifically asked if snackbar was open so we could eat dinner and were told it was open til 6.. We got to snack bar and store 5 minutes til six to find it locked. Office closed also. She could have told us! Nobody delivers pizza out here. We are stuck at our campsite after setting up with nothing to eat.. And for this they charge, in addition to $100 for a site a $10 Amenity fee.. Really???? Sites crammed together too close.. Nice spot on water but very little shade and NO amenities I can use Only bright spot was camp hosts who were lovely but couldn't do anything to help Hungry and disappointed in Currituck

    Response from the owner

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, even if your experience wasn’t great. We’re sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations. Your remarks will be shared with the team.

Spent 9 days at this campground and have been here 4 times in the past. We are local and have enjoyed this place in previous years. We have been here twice this year. Activity review applies over 3 weekends we have been here 2022. Others apply only to long stay. Spoke to the campground months and again weeks before our 9 day stay here and was supposed to be in adjacent spots with our friends camping same weekend. Upon arrival we were not allowed to change spots or even offered ANY other locations to get us closer together. We asked 3 separate times while on grounds camping to be moved closer as we watch others leave and empty spots available. We were 31 spots away from our friends after being assured twice before we would be next to each other. We were NEVER allowed to move or offered ANY other options for sites. Wf12-Wf43. This year no activities for kids during the week, and weekend activities seemed very low cost to the KOA and featured activities the campground already touts, and charges for as amenities. Website said water taxi to OBX available as well as peddle cars and paddle boats. None were available or operational. Be careful with your expectations with this KOA. Never actually have been here with operational water taxi. I’ve never experienced this before with KOA. I had planned on coming back in the fall, but unsure I’ll book here again. I wish the campground would have simply helped us get closer to our friend. It would have made for a much more enjoyable experience than walking half the campground every day with food to eat and visit together. Beautiful views and weather for sure. Bugs could be horrendous at times but that’s camping. With other campgrounds around here I would encourage you to look at other options.

    Response from the owner

We appreciate your feedback but are sorry to hear your experience wasn’t great. Your feedback has been relayed to our team.

Had a waterfront site. It was beautiful! Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They have kayaks, rowboats, & paddle boards to rent free. Sunrise and sunset are absolutely gorgeous. The things that made our vaca less enjoyable was the overgrowth of the sticker briar weeds. Not only on the playground but on the sites also. Literally almost everywhere there was grass, these little burrs were present. They get in your shoes and they hurt. Our girl fell by the playground and was covered in them. Ouch. Our dog had to be carried down to the path to potty and go on walks because I could not walk her through the grass without her paws getting injured by these. They should definitely get on top of this issue and kill these particular weeds. The corn hole boards are barely hanging on and desperately need to be refurbished. Jump pad was not nearly as nice as the one at the Williamsburg Koa and when the sun was on it, it was incredibly hot. All this aside, we really did enjoy it.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to review us. Hope you have an amazing day!

Very scenic and nice. We booked a back in waterfront space. If you've never been to a waterfront campground, just a reminder to be prepared for a lot of wind. The playground and jump pad are nice, but could use some shade. Edit: 2022 visit. Still just as nice as last time. Only new downside is the massive amount of flies in the area. These are wetlands and cannot really be controlled, but just be aware that they will get into your camper. Bring a fly swatter.

    Response from the owner

Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed you stay!

Pricy and SOME office folks are nasty. Very, very crowded. Seemed like a lot of stuff for kids. Area is quite congested. Water taxi was not in service yet.

Good place all around it just there is not much to do for teenagers other then sit around and do nothing, go to the bounce pad that you can't jump on be cause it has a hole , go swimming (if you can) or just go fishing oh yeah and do not go here on forth of July if you love fireworks because they were so far away you could not here the BOOM and all the other noise I mean for me fireworks are made make babies cry , dog scared and make the soul quiver but other then that its a semi good place

Beautiful campground. It has well maintained grounds, laundry room and shower house and beautiful waterfront sites. It has nice walking/golf cart trails. Great piers for fishing or just sitting and enjoying the view. Does sometimes have an issue with bugs but that is mother nature. We will definitely camp here again.

    Response from the owner

Linda, we’re so happy to hear you had a good experience. Hope to see you again in the near future!

Great campground! Staff is very pleasant many sites along the water with beautiful views. We booked our next trip there before leaving. Everything was clean and our site was nice and roomy. We have a large RV and the road to get back is narrow, but doable if you take it slow.

    Response from the owner

Thank you so much! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay, and booked your next trip!

Road to get there is narrow-not the campgrounds fault. Site very roomy. Patio was a plus. Golf cart rental with all the spider webs one could ever want. They don't clean the carts before they rent them out at $50 per day. Plenty of open space to play games (corn hole). The store is well stocked with essential items and souvenirs. The staff were pleasant. No POOL. There is access to the sound but it is brackish water and not my preferred way to cool off. The bugs were UNREAL!!!! They covered my class A, got inside the rig, in the food. Made it very miserable to be outside. We like to be outside when camping but this was not possible unless your were riding around on a golf cart. The bugs were so bad. If you prefer to go camping and be stuck in your camper all weekend, then this place is ideal for you.

    Response from the owner

We are so sorry you did not enjoy your stay. It is hard to keep everything clean with all the pesky bugs. We are sorry you missed all the activities at the Event Center. Lexi and Graham did an awesome job keeping our guests entertained.

Rented an on-site RV. The maintenance of campsite needs improvement. Grill was not cleaned after last renter. Outdoor furniture and RV covered in bugs and spider webs. Firepit had 3 huge mushrooms growing in it. We had to wipe down the outdoor furniture from bugs and webs in order to use it. I understand you are at a campground but if the RV and surrounding area should have been cleaned prior to renting. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed the campgrounds.

    Response from the owner

Our first experience "camping"! Stayed in one of the deluxe cabins! Great facilities! Great views! Could see both the sunrise and sunset! Very peaceful! Enjoyed the fireplace! Great neighbors!!! Enjoyed the experience! Rented golf cart - enjoyed riding around the property! Halloween with our family and the other campers was a lot of fun!

    Response from the owner

Thanks for the rating. We’d love to know what made your experience great!

We stayed in the tent area and enjoyed the nice tree canopy and privacy of the sites. The sound is lovely and even though the wooded setting prevented a view from the campsite, we enjoyed crabbing and swimming near one of the boat ramps. They campground was almost completely full but didn’t feel crowded. The showers and bathrooms were perfectly clean while we were there. We also got to enjoy the bounce pad. The haunted woods ride was great. Everything is pretty new. It appears that they are still working on the tent area and as of our stay the closest bathrooms were in the check in building, which closes at 10 and opens at 7 or so. Even then the closest bathroom is too far away from the tents. I’ve read that some found the bugs difficult to tolerate but there’s nothing excessive about the bugs and frogs. It’s totally normal for the area. The employees were friendly but the mask wearing was about 50%, which is really too bad.

    Response from the owner

Thank you, Holly! We appreciate your comments and we are so glad you have a great experience!

We had a nice time at this KOA. A couple of points off for the flies. I know beaches have flies but I thought a little much. The dumpsters need covers. Bring a fly swatter! Beautiful views of the sound, no true beach access so keep in mind that the closest beach is about an hour away. You can swim, fish and boat but no coast to speak of. Clean site, large enough for a 35 ft trailer but not much privacy. You can't expect much room at a beach park. Internet is decent. Tmobile and AT&T works fine.

    Response from the owner

Thank you! We appreciate your feedback. The flies are common in this area due to the warm south wind. Having dumpsters are unavoidable but we do keep the across the park, away from our campers. They have covers and we will monitor. We are glad you had a good experience and hope you stay with us again, soon.

Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The guy that led us to our site was the best! He let us meet his dog, Oakley, and told us how the pandemic resulted in them losing their water taxi to Currituck Island. The sites do not have a lot of room between each camper but our site had a large grassy spot between our camper and the water. Beautiful place. Bathhouse are clean, private, and spacious. The grounds are clean and the camp store is nice.

Enjoyed our Spring Break getaway with our mom and mother in law. Campsite on waterfront pretty tight, hopefully you dont have rowdy neighbors. Cabin was nice but outside stairs need yo be positioned closer to actual cabin and level them out, they wobble. Basic essentials, except bedding, towels, etc were supplied and kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils. Sunrises were spectacular and weather was perfect.

Thanks for the great review. Hope to see you again in the near future!

The campground is great for families. They have a park, piers, dog park, shop, arcade, showers, everything! The customer service has always been great too, the people are kind. I would like to see more trees around the campground. But it was a great stay for a quick camping trip.

I had never been to a KOA - I would always see them by the highway and never thought much about them. We loved our stay here. The campground is in a scenic location and has everything you need for camping as well as docks, playgrounds, and a dog park. They rent golf carts, kayaks, and row boats. Bathhouse is good and there is a camp store with a snack bar. It's about 30-45 minutes drive to get to Kittyhawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nag's Head.

As I sit in my motorhome halfway through my camping reservation, I thought it only fair to write a review now. I feel confident that my opinion will not change about my experience at the KOA Outer Banks west. First and foremost, the staff is amazing. They are not only very friendly but also very helpful. From registration check in to just a few minutes ago when a staff member took it upon his own to secure a screened in canopy for us that had come loose. Thank you to everyone, in the office, store, and Maintenance Staff that has made this such an enjoyable trip so far. The campground is very well maintained and the views are exceptional. Very peaceful. In reading a number of reviews complaining about the bug problem. That's what you encounter when camping near the water. We prepared by bringing bug spray. No problems at all. We rented a trailer for our daughter and her husband. It was very clean and well maintained. Extremely happy with this campground and we will come back. Great job to all.

    Response from the owner

Thanks so much for the kind words. We hope you have a wonderful stay!

This place is a definite must stay if you love the water, fishing or just the views!! It’s tucked away in Coinjock on the water with a view on the sound that’s unbelievable. This KOA has a lot to offer, clean bathhouses & restrooms, nice gift shop with a small cafe, events hall, playground, 3 boat ramps and piers for fishing ,nature trail and dog park, they are building and changing this place everyday, it looks like they are adding alot more kids activities like a pedal go-cart track, jumping pillow and more. Oh and I almost forgot they have a water taxi coming to take you right into OBX!! So bring your kids dog and be ready for a great time!!

Quite a distance from most anything to do. A great place for kids to play, our grandson loved the bounce pad. Robin, the Manager, was great. She even made plans to hide some Easter eggs on our site as we were arriving the afternoon of Easter Sunday. We ended up being much later than planned so we missed out on that, but it was our fault. Her concern for her guests is outstanding. It's a really good campground, clean and well kept, just know you have to drive a bit to go anywhere.

Very nice KOA! Just be careful if the weather turns bad. The wind here is no joke! It turned 2 travel trailers over the other day! It's beautiful here otherwise.

This campground has the beauty of a state park with the convenience of a KOA. The staff is great, too. My kids had a blast with Lexi, the activities director. Erica at the front desk is very kind and will go out of her way for you. David took time out of his day to show us the nature trails. This place and the people are a gem! Oh, and while we were there they were installing new water tanks so water pressure shouldn't be an issue much longer. Their restrooms were so clean so we didn't mind showering there when our pressure was low in the RV. We'll be back!

    Response from the owner

Thank you, Rebecca! You comments are appreciated. Our staff really does care about your experience. We hope you come back, soon!

Beautiful campground. Friendly & helpful staff. This has been my kids favorite campground out of the 6 we’ve stayed at so far. The reason I’ve only rated 4 stars is because #1 they have a horrible bug issue. I feel they could easily have the area regularly sprayed to help the problem. #2 we paid $50 to rent a golf cart for 1 day & it was filthy, covered in spider webs, & the battery died within 30 minutes. They have a great store on site, a fun playground, beautiful views, & a jump pad that any kid will love.

Hi Renee, Thanks so much for leaving us a review. Hope to see you again!

This place is amazing. The only reason I gave it 4 star is because the water pressure is pretty low. The sites are small. When I put my awning out, it almost touches my neighbors rig. The campground owners are in the process of updating the campground. They have done quite a few upgrades already. They will be installing a holding tank to improve water pressure. Overall, this place is very nice. We will be returning when the water is warmer so we can swim.

    Response from the owner

Thank you, Amy! We agree that water pressure is a problem and we are working on a resolution, soon.

Really great view, beautiful lake. Rented out an RV for the weekend ($500 for 2 days & an additional $50/day for a golf cart). Giving it 2 stars due to mere fact that there were hundreds, if not thousands, of bugs. Covering the entirety of the RV and everything in sight, it was impossible to avoid them getting in. Left with our car covered in bugs. The lake water is definitely brown, unlike the pictures. It’s still a fun time to swim in & jump off the dock.

    Response from the owner

We are glad you enjoyed your stay and you had fun swimming in the Sound. The water is brown because it is "brackish". Fun Fact "brackish" is water is a mixture of fresh and salt water. The bugs are terrible and we are so sorry you had to experience them!

Just a beautiful, well kept campground. The girl who checked us in was so nice & very informative. Lots of things for kids to do. Great campground store. Great walking along the water. Would definitely stay here again.

This is quite a disappointment for a KOA. The only redeeming quality of this campground is the water views. The waterfront sites are so tight that putting your awning out puts you right into your neighbors electric and sewer towers. No pool, no beach and A MASSIVE FLYING INSECT INFESTATION! It is definitely not too geared towards families with children. Places to eat are few and far between. The one restaurant at the the marina close by does not maintain regular hours so check before going which still doesn’t guarantee they will be open to the public. We will not return to this campground.

    Response from the owner

We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We are a family park and we are sorry you missed all the fun activities our recreation staff puts together. We hope you give us another try in the future.

Fantastic campsite. Average good for a KOA. views were wonderful. Swimming in the sound was a blast. Lots of friendly folks and dogs on-leash. It would have been nice if there were more bath houses, especially given how many sites there are. The tent area is quiet, secluded, and shaded. The lack of a pool was a bummer, but not a deal breaker. My kids swam in the sound with any issues, water is calm and depth seems to be about 4ft on average.

    Response from the owner

Thank you, Allan! We assume you did not know about our second bathhouse on the back side of the event center. We have 10 more bathrooms. That tells us we did not do a great job of letting folks know and our signage needs to be more clear for our guests! Thank you for the feedback! And, YES we want a pool, too! The county is not cooperating with us on a permit for pools.

My wife and I loved this place it has really spectacular views were our cabin was, Jackie and Elizabeth was really nice to us like we known each other for along time. They both help us around the KoA, this is what KOA place needs are people like them when you come in. This was our first time here and did not know that a bad storm was coming and this place can flood. But if you come when there is no rain then you will love this place. Thank you and God Bless y’all.

Thank you! We will make sure Jackie and Elizabeth see your comments. We are so glad you enjoyed yours stay!

We have now been to this campground twice this year and loved it each time. We enjoy the view. We had a pull thru site near office first visit and enjoyed those, but second visit we were waterfront near swim dock and loved the view and convenience for us to watch kids while they took a swim. We camp as a group with friends and all of our kids really enjoy this place. Water pressure improved from first visit to the most recent visit. Hopefully the neighbors will become nicer to KOA campers. Not all vehicles/campers are disrespectful like them posting ugly signs. Looking forward to the boat taxi when it can operate.

    Response from the owner

Thank you, Melissa! We are so glad your experiences here at Outer Banks West KOA are so great! We hope you keep coming back!
