Old Hickory Credit Union - Hendersonville Branch Reviews

I would never recommend OHCU to ANYONE. I have been banking there ever since I opened my own account and just recently have had the most horrible service.... EVER. I got charged over draft fees with Money in my account. And so when I had bills actually come out, I actually went negative and so I got charged again. This has happened 3 TIMES! I called to tell them and the lady was so rude to me. I then told her I was going to switch banks and she said ok, have a nice day. I’ve been banking there for almost 4 years and my mom has been banking there for as long as I can remember. Horrible service and NO HELP AT ALL. You have lost a customer!

I submitted an application for an auto loan, and even though I received a credit monitoring alert that Old Hickory had pulled my credit the same day, I never so much as received a call or email from Old Hickory (and it has been over a week and a half). Ascend and the Tennessee Credit Unions both called me back same day with really good rates. EDIT: finally received a call over 3 weeks later...I told the lady she was too late I had already bought the car haha

    Response from the owner

Here is the sole reason for the rating. I was written a check by a friend drawn on an Old Hickory Credit Union account. When I went inside the Hendersonville, TN. branch to cash this check I was pleasantly informed by the teller that there is a $5.00 check cashing fee. Of course I disagreed to pay this and then I asked to speak to a manager. The manager confirmed that there is a fee for cashing checks that are drawn on an Old Hickory Credit Union account unless you have an account with them and there is no overriding this fee cause of the upper management. This is what I remember from economics in high school. When a check is written from one party to another it is considered legal tender, So this means that the bank wants to charge me to receive the money that is owed/earned/promised to me by the account holder. The justification for the fee as I was told directly from this bank manager "other banks charge a fee also". Maybe that's true, but there is a long list of things that "other banks" do that I promise this credit union would never do. So is the justification of the charge to cover the processing fee? Umm... I believe that is what the monthly service fee paid by the account holder is for. I will not pay a fee for you to honor a check written in good faith by your account holder. HOWEVER, I will make it a point to tell everyone what a bad idea it is for any bank to charge a fee in order for you to collect what is rightfully and legally owed to you. If ever I discover that the bank that I am currently using tries to charge anyone a fee for cashing a check that I have written them, then no longer will I be a customer of theirs. (Cedar Stone Bank in case you were wondering). If a bank is either so greedy that they want to charge my debtors in order to honor my checks or they are so horrible with their finances that they have to have a check cashing fee then I will not trust my money to be in their bank. When did banks believe that they were doing anyone a favor by being in business? Or maybe I have seen the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart and Mr. Potter the evil banker. Summary: DONT JUST GIVE YOUR MONEY AWAY FOR FEES THAT ARE NOT NECESSARY. YOU EARNED YOU KEEP IT.

I have had an account for almost 5 years. Only a savings account. Well I guess I should have read sooner but because I only have one account they have been charging me a 5 dollar fee! Wow!! They hardly pay me interest and charge me or should I say steal from me! They are charging me to loan out my money. Stay away!!!

My husband and I came today to set up an appointment. Doors were locked. Nobody acted like they wanted to help us. Now I can see why you people have such ad reviews.

    Response from the owner

William, thank you for the feedback. We apologize that you had a bad experience in dealing with our lobby being closed. Our plan is reopen all branch lobbies on May 3rd. We do hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you. Your comments have been sent to the appropriate person to review.

Worst banking experience I've ever had at the branch in Hendersonville. Drove into the drive thru and pushed the call button. An older woman ask in her most "I don't want to be bothered voice" if she can help me. Hoping to turn her mood around I cheerfully and smiling tell her I need to make a deposit but don't have my account number on me. She tells me I have to have the number. Asking if we can look it up by my name she again replies sternly and matter of factly that she has to have a number. I tell her the last time I came in I didn't have it and the lady looked it up for me and I inquired if I needed to come in? She again said no, that I had to have a number. Dumbfounded that I'm trying to make a deposit and getting absolutely ZERO customer service she finally and hatefully says "it can be an account number or your social security number." Wow!!! Really, could have said that as soon as I pulled up. Worst customer service ever at a bank.

I have used OHCU for 20 years. My family has been members for 50 years, but we are thinking about changing banks. When I joined there was a branch in Gallatin, now there isnt even an ATM. I drive by a dozen banks just to get to the branch in Hendersonville. It is just too inconvienant. It is a shame too. We always liked doing business there.

    Response from the owner

Hi Rob, we're sorry to hear about the inconvenience, and we'd love an opportunity to resolve the situation with you. Give us a call anytime at (615) 847-4043.
