Member First Mortgage Reviews

I would not recommend Member First Mortgage to anyone. My experience with Zach Carlson was horrible. He wouldn't respond to emails, voicemails or text messages. I had to call his supervisor and leave a message to get this man to call me back. When I would finally speak to him, he sounded as though he didn't have a clue as to what was going on. He would request documents that had already been provided to him. My real estate agent had the same experience with him. She said it was the worst transaction she had ever been a part of. If you do use this company, just make sure you're not dealing with Zach Carlson.

I filled out my application on NYE, Friday evening while I was watching the Times Square stuff. I received a call and email from my OUTSTANDING loan officer Aaron S. that SUNDAY! I repeat, I got a loan estimate on a Sunday of a holiday weekend. I showed the loan estimate to another mortgage broker that I had spoken to, and he thought it was fake because the rate was so low. Quick responses, excellent rate, and I’ve already been recommending them to everyone I know who is thinking of buying or refinancing.
Thank you so much, Abi! We’re glad you had a great experience working with Aaron and the MFM team.

I highly recommend this company. My mother in law referred me and I've never been so happy with a company. They were fast and to the point with everything. Communication was fantastic.
Thank you so much, Bridget! We’re glad you had a great experience working with the MFM team.
K
Casey, James, and Kristina were absolutely great to work with! They make the lending process smooth and much less stressful for the clients. Fantastic!! My husband and I are so grateful to have worked with them!
Thank you so much, Kristen! We’re glad you had a great experience working with the MFM team.

We recently purchased a house, and used Members First, because they were affiliated with our credit union. It was not a good experience. It took over 90 days to close, they would ask for information, we would send it, they would say "that should do it", and then 2 weeks later, want additional information, or the same information we sent weeks ago. One time they requested info, we sent it, 2 weeks later they told our credit union that we never sent the information they requested. Got kinda snippy, said we were delaying things, until the processor found the information, in her spam Email box. Please do not use this company.

I called to ask if they can do a virtual closing, so I don't have to be face to face with a notary during the pandemic. After 6 tries to reach a human, I was told by one of their staff (Phil) that he's had covid twice, and doesn't feel like it's enough of an issue that I should care. Eventually I got ahold of the processor I'd been working with, who'd been blowing me off for a week on the answer to this question (Brooke), who assured me a totally virtual closing is fine. A couple hours later, I got a call from my credit union telling me that MFM decided they can't do a virtual closing, because they aren't trained on Docusign (despite having had me fill out several forms using that service already in this process) - nevermind that it's the TITLE COMPANY'S job to set all that up for the closing. MFM THEN SUGGESTED I USE A TITLE COMPANY OF THEIR CHOICE INSTEAD - A CLEAR RESPA VIOLATION, AND TOTALLY ILLEGAL, IF I WANT TO MEET THE CLOSING DATE. If I had ANY other option for not blowing my closing date, being in breach, and losing my EMD at this point, I would use them. If I am EVER suggested to use MFM again, I will promptly tell whoever makes that suggestion to get bent, and take my business elsewhere. BUYER BEWARE.

Beware! This company sends out mass mailings addressed to "John Homeowner" and then acts like you have applied for credit already through them. Not a reputable practice. Avoid this company.

Excellent experience with Member First Mortgage. Jeremy, my mortgage consultant was super thorough and responsive. Always available to answer my questions and kept me informed throughout the process of updates.
Thanks Angelina! We're so glad you had an excellent experience working with Jeremy and the MFM team!

Brent Simons is EXCELLENT HE makes the mortgage loan process easier, understanding and very helpful. I highly recommend him.
We're so glad you had an excellent experience working with Brent and the MFM team on your mortgage!

Buckley Geno is the most unprofessional useless person I have ever worked with. Hes dragging his feet and we've missed our closing date and are at risk for missing the next one. When asked several times if anything else was needed he finally replied with no only to find out (less than a week from our closing) we needed something else. He can't ever be reached by phone, only email and when he does respond he doesnt answers your questions. The mortgage person is who makes the calls to the title company not the buyer. He has no sense of urgency! If something is needed and is time sensitive a phone call should be made. We have zero faith is his work and even less trust. I pray that by some miracle we make our closing and can finally have our home.

Terrible experience and they left me with no lender in the middle of a real estate transaction. I paid $595 for an appraisal then another $450 for an engineers report as requested. It then took them over 20 days to get the appraiser to the property, which put my deposit on the line for due diligence. The appraisal finally came back just a hair under value (which was good news I negotiated the difference), Wayne Fuller then informed me that they can't do the loan because the underwriter wants more comparables. The reason they stated was that a Fannie Mae investor was going to buy the loan and their guidelines state they needed more comparables to support the value. Regardless of what the appraisal report said they refused to use it, even though the value was there and that it was done by a licensed appraiser that they hired which I paid for. They then issued me a decline in the middle of a transaction and forced me to start loan shopping again. No attempt to remedy the issue or offer me a credit towards another property. Not to mention the communication with my "lender" was very limited. I went over a week without hearing back from them. Public be warned lest you lose money.

Performed a refinance with this company through my credit union and it was the worse loan process I have ever undergone. It took 2 months to complete the process. I understand there could have been a "backlog" due to higher than expected volume in Refinance applications. However, there was no communication by my Loan officer or his team on where the process stood or what to expect next. I would have to send weekly emails to ask what's the status of my application/process. Even after the appraisal was completed, the company waited until the last minute to request documents from the HOA. Despite having more than a month and half to communicate with myself or the HOA about these needed documents it ended up pushing the closing an additional 2 weeks. If the rate had not been the most competitive I would have taken the lost of the appraisal and took my services elsewhere. Even at the closing when the attorney said that you should have already reviewed the final documents prior to this moment, I had informed him that I did not and that numbers had changed since the last time I received anything. We both just sat there awkwardly in silence about how alarming this was. Regardless, I would not recommend anyone use this company. I can only hope that I will not be burned on the back-end by holding my mortgage with this company. I hope my credit union chooses another 3rd party to facilitate or manage their mortgages.

Worst experience we’ve ever had with a financial institution. Definitely would not recommend. Continually asked for the same documents, we were told multiple times that the mortgage was approved but at 5 pm the day before closing the Title Company had still not received the paperwork. The stress we were put through by this company was totally unnecessary. They were unprofessional and incompetent. It was too late for us to apply to another bank but we no longer have any confidence in Members First. One star is still too high a review.

DON'T GO THROUGH THIS COMPANY. They do not seem to care at all that buying a home is a time sensitive matter, and you can't get ahold of them outside 9-5 Mon-Fri (obviously, but still a huge con). They took so much time to get a single task done and never communicated. I ended up switching mortgage people, and it was a great decision! Trust me.

Member First Mortgage worked with us to refinance our home in a timely manner. We now have a reduced interest rate and a lower monthly payment so that we can pay extra principal and pay our home off sooner. Our agent also was involved in helping us get a better homeowner's insurance policy that covers a more accurate value of our home. Thank you!
Thanks Nancy! It's great to hear you had a great experience working with the MFM team on your refi!
H
Our agent was top notch! We were 1st time home buyers and didn't know anything about the process. She was very patient with my millions of crazy questions and walked us through the process. She was always very quick to respond as well.
Thank you, Heather! It's great to hear you received excellent service throughout your mortgage process, we're so glad you had a great experience working with the MFM team!
S
I was so happy that I was paired with Heidi! She got back to me very quickly with answers to my questions. We were even able to complete my refi within 30 days despite the holiday season! I would be glad to work with them in the future.
Thank you, Stachia! We're so glad to hear you had a great experience working with Heidi and the MFM team on your refi!

If you have a choice, DON'T. Should be named "Member Last Mortgage" Without laying out an entire novel, my experience with this company is: they have high turnaround or absence, which leads to poor communication, poor job execution, and issues with customers. My Credit Union recommended them for a home purchase. Like some other reviews stated, their ability to know "what is needed" for paperwork collection is just bad. This causes massive delays to get approvals, schedule closings, and overall interact with people who are on the ball. Now trying to deal with a PMI request, They have now decided to only communicate ambiguously through an email called "Escrow". EVERY communication with them has been delayed by weeks. No actual name of a person. Just delayed generic responses. Sometimes responses that are not true in the process you are requesting (training issue?) They simply don't care. Or they are simply overwhelmed. Overall bad experience. I cannot recommend.

Don't use them if you expect professionalism and competence. Heidi Brower was rude and unprofessional. Would ask me for something and then denied she received it although I would cc my bank contact the info. At the time my father was in ICU and he died while I was going through refinance but Heidi seemed to think that didn't matter. She would change up what she said was needed and then contradict herself. I had been at my job for 25 years, 800+ credit score, low debt to income ratio, and loan only for about half of value so plenty of equity and she made me feel like I was a financial risk and needed to kiss up to her. Nine months after closing I get contacted to have another appraisal because within one week of closing they sold to Fannie Mae but Fannie Mae rejected buse I only had "drive by" appraisal and Fannie Mae requires walk through appraisal as my previous mortgage was not a Fannie Mae loan. MFM mortgage tried to push me to permit another appraisal making it seem I was obligated to permit it and I straight out told them that maybe if Heidi hadn't been such a ....uncooperative and rude person I would work with them but I am not obligated to 9 months later let them into my home. A manager tried to also get me to permit second appraisal but again said no that since Heidi was rude I felt no obligation to help them as once I went to closing its a done deal. So....they had to buy back the mortgage from Fannie Mae. Oh well. Lesson learned on why they should have been nice.

After getting to the point of thinking we would never get a loan because we are self employed and the house we wanted to buy was not the "normal", Member First came through. They were honest, fast and answered my questions right away. Very, very happy!!
Thank you so much, Rachael! We’re glad you had a great experience working with the MFM team.

My mortgage consultant, Mike Young, was excellent. He is the reason that we chose Member First over all of the other lenders that we looked at. I was a first time buyer, and Mike was clear and communicative in regards to the process and expectations. I have a strange work schedule and I work long hours, and his prompt and attentive work ethic made efficient communication possible. We closed yesterday with ease; offer to closing was less than a month. I have already referred people to the company because of this consultant, and he deserves a raise. Thank you, Mike!
Thank you so much, Ashe! It's great to hear that Michael went above and beyond during your first home purchase!
S
They are very friendly and helpful. the only thing that was a little bothersome was we had to keep signing and taking in papers "instead of doing all the pre-paperwork all at once". the actual closing was fast and easy.
Thank you so much, Sharon! We’re glad you had a great experience working with the MFM team.

Would definitely not recommend! Started refinance in January, finally completed in May. Had not even made second payment and they failed to pay my I home owners insurance out of escrow account and let my insurance lapse. Had to make payment to reinstate insurance out of pocket, when they reimbursed my payment it was $105 short. Failed to pay property taxes out of escrow on time. When I complained they said that there were a lot of people that had recently quit. High turnover most of the time equals bad company. If I didn't have $10,000 in closing costs wrapped up in this company I would go somewhere else. I am 3 months in with them now and would not send my worst enemy there. If you are thinking of using them RUN FAR, FAR AWAY!

It took about a week to get preapproved, and the availability of our mortgage consultant was hit or miss. The process was a lot slower and a lot more painful than it needed to be and we absolutely would have lost the house we wanted if it weren’t for the persistent efforts of our realtor reaching out to management and various other sources to get things moved along. Definitely not anywhere near the dedicated service or communication I’ve received in the past from other mortgage companies. I did not feel taken care of, and the sense I got was that they do not value their customers

Member First Mortgage took me through the homebuying process at a time when I had many competing priorities. I was treated with care and concern and I was very pleased with how responsive they were in keeping me informed of the process. I will recommend my family and friends to work with them, they showed care and concern for my needs. I was very appreciative of the time Kevin and Heidi allotted to answer my questions and I love my new home!
Thanks, Sonia! We're so glad you had a great experience working with Kevin and the MFM team. It's great to hear you received excellent service during your mortgage process!

From the first contact with Member First Mortgage I was assured I would be in good hands and this was beyond true. Being that I just purchased my first home/condo I was very unsure of what I would be able to afford. Working with Member First Mortgage, specifically Jim, I felt very comfortable and confident that I could take this huge step in my life and was beyond supported by him. I would recommended anyone in my position of looking to purchase my first home to this MFM branch. I am beyond grateful for MFM and even more for Jim! TEAM STREET. :-)
Thanks Laura! We're so glad you had a great experience working with Jim and MFM team on your first home purchase. It's great to hear you received the service and guidance you deserve throughout the mortgage process!

Originally I was introduced to Member First though my credit union - recently while trying to refinance to record low rates - my credit union has been very slow to change their rates - so I called Member First - since they already had my loan. Kevin T and Heidi B have been excellent to work with - very responsive. I could not believe they got it all done in a month!!! They sent a person to my house to sign the papers!!! It was the easiest process I have went through to date. Over the past 7 years while they held my mortgage there have been a few snafus - like my taxes not being paid from my escrow on time - but they have always made it right or at least ate the costs and fixed it!! There was a period of 2 to 3 weeks were their website would not let me make my payment, but they also handled that too.
Thank you so much, David! We're glad to hear you've had great experiences working with Kevin, Heidi and the MFM team!!

I applied for a home equity loan with Northwest Community Credit Union. For some reason Member First Mortgage handled this loan for NWCU. After applying for the loan and filling out their paperwork all communication stopped from them. About a month later a different representative from their company called me. I was told the original representative had left the company. It took another month and starting an application with quicken loans for the Member First loan to get done. The interest rate was slightly better with Member First or I would have gone with quicken. I will never do another loan with Member First.

We started the mortgage process with Georgia's Own Credit Union but it was apparently being sold directly to Member First, so we worked with Member First on the underwriting. This was unexpected. Member First made us jump through an insane number of hoops on our documentation, nothing like we've ever done before. They kept coming back wanting more and more. Apparently a credit score of 800 doesn't mean as much as it used to. It was down to the wire for our closing by the end and we still never felt like they were going to accept it. We've never had such a stressful experience! We'll never deal with them again if we have any say in it.

We have been dealing with this company trying to buy our house. They keep asking for the same documents over and over and keep wanting more. So far this has been a 6 month process and we have missed our closing date twice. This has been a very stressful and long process that shouldn't have taken this long to do. Can never get ahold of anyone to see what is going on and when you of get ahold of someone all they say is it's a waiting game. This process should not take 6 months!!!

This has been one of the worst mortgage experiences we could have possibly had. My husband and I are very qualified buyers and 5 weeks after the accepted offer on our new home we were told by our mortgage consultant that we should have looked around at other mortgage companies because we still don’t have a closing date. All we’ve asked for is communication and the more we ask the more retaliation we get from our consultant. This experience has been a total nightmare and no one at member first seems to care enough to get it resolved. If I could have rated a 0 star I would have.
