mellen investment C St, Anchorage

Will update if I ever get a response. I sent an email inquiring about housing available on 4 June, and sent the forms required from JBER and their partnership with this company for housing. I got no response and so I called first thing in the morning and left a message when no one picked up. I called again around lunch time and it went to VM and same thing at 1600. Whether there is available housing or not a response is still appropriate. I'll be inquiring with JBER/Aurora Housing on updated inspections and the terms of their agreement with this company.

DO NOT RENT MELLEN. Rented with them for 9 months when my husband was stationed at Elmendorf. The area seems nice and from what we heard, south Anchorage had less crime, noise, and good schools. During initial walkthrough, things seemed dated and the person showing seemed more interested in talking about when our rent would be coming through and all the penalties than the mid-90's dishwasher and appliances. Immediately had issues; car gone through but the landlord wouldn't let us put in cameras because "they damage the siding", people left their trash outside their doors ALL THE TIME so the birds would scatter it around. They wanted $25 per month for our dog, non-refundable on top of a $200 pet fee. Thought it would cover things, oh no, just you wait. We moved out because there's no place for our kids to place except the parking area and people race in and out all the time (suspect they're selling something!!!). I couldn't watch my kids get hurt, and after telling the management compnay, all I got was a "well look into it". They tried to take our entire deposit after 9 months, 9 MONTHS!!! Saying there was heavy wear and tear, though it was like that when we moved in. Turns out the money you drop on pets doesn't even cover anything, they tried to blame spots on the carpet on our dog. When we asked for an itemized list, they went silent for days and eventually we had to leave for Texas and paid everything. NEVER AGAIN!!!

This area is not safe! Had my car rifled through twice since i lived here back in sept 2021. Constant gun shots and tweakers everywhere. Management doesnt address any issues. Just bandaids complaints. Has constant "safety inspections" which is just an excuse to excuse to check for damage. I was told they value your privacy when doing the lease. They lied. Constant battle to get laundry done. People from other buildings monopolize the machine for a day at a time. Damaged cement near steps not safe. Just now put in a hand rail in. Dont keep up plowing in winter. Poor management. Apt itself is ok, just small.

My roommates and I had a great year living at the Chugach Meadows location. Mellen was consistent, always professional and quick to reach out in the event that we needed maintenance or anything. Everyone in the office was always very nice (we paid our rent in person each month). We would recommend Mellen Investment Company to anyone looking to rent in Anchorage.
