Medford / Gold Hill KOA Journey Reviews

It was great, the campground was clean and the staff were super helpful. The KOA store was well stocked and had a great selection for those small things you might need. The bathrooms/showers were always in top notch condition! Kids loved the pool and the playground especially! And the Potable water spigot at the tent site was great, and the sight had a ton of space.

    Response from the owner

Hey Joe, Thanks for the great review! It is truly touching to know you think so highly of us! We're glad you had a great experience and we look forward to continuing to exceed your expectations! Please let us know what we can do for you in the future.

The hospitality at Medford KOA is below standards and evident no regard to correct. Our reservations were made five months in advance; however, upon arrival, Medford KOA could not accommodate our staying, placing us in overflow. This should have been the moment we realized our stay would be difficult. We traveled to Oregon for a club soccer tournament and knew our stay would only be present during the night as we would be at soccer fields all day for play. Being placed into overflow directly behind the check-in point is the worst for any guest. We were harassed about everything we did. On day one, after being told where to park and how to park, an older woman sternly advised us that we violated the grass “rule”, by being parked where we’d been originally told to park. Then, informed to move our camping rug outside our trailer because it covered 2 feet of the grass. Day two, after being gone from our site from 6:30am to 6pm (almost 12 hours) we arrived at the site where our 8lbs yorkie-poo jumped out to our son that was standing 3 feet from our truck, only to be yelled at (and I mean yelled at) by an older gentlemen grounds keeper to keep our dog on a leash if not within 6 feet of us. No regard for the situation and never mind we’d be compliant with the rule the entire stay. Day three, no signage about the direction to go for dumping station the same older gentlemen yelled at us for going the wrong way even though he admitted there wasn’t proper signage. As we attempting to dump this same worker accused us of holding everyone up because of being there first but pulling in facing the wrong direction. As we pulled out he proceeded to yell that we were blocking other camper but there we no campers around our truck or trailer attempting to move. In all, as a KOA member and frequent patron of KOA’s this goes down and they worst stay and staff.

Got bug bites. Called to get a cabin and asked if the cabins are spider free and they said they never had problems with spiders. We stayed 1 night and left with bites. Called them to notify them of my bites and they said " probably from spiders " not sure what the bites are and recommended a professional look into this and they blew me off. Guess it was my fault for staying there and 13 bites later not sure if it was even spiders or bed bugs never had this happen any other Koa place. If this place know anything about insects they would be the professional in pest control but clearly they don't know what they are doing, I was pleading with them to hire a professional but once again they blew me off in thier response.

    Response from the owner

We are sorry you did not have a good experience. We throughly clean all units and adhere to KOA's extensive cleaning checklist. While it is a campground, we have not found any insects, spiders or bed bugs, in any of our units. We don't have mattresses, instead we use foam pads with zip covers which are throughly wiped down and disenfected after each guest so "bed bugs" wouldn't be an issue in our cabins. Moving forward we will continue with our stringent cleaning procedures. We wish you safe travels.

The cleanest bathrooms! Such a cute lil creek. The staff here is top notch and fur-baby lovers. The best KOA of this trip.

Was nice a bit expensive for the space. We were only there for 16 hours. The neighbor had a great stereo it had lights that changed colors so our RV glowed to the beat of his music.

I've never been so harassed about check out time. I live on the road and have been to many koas, the koa outside of crescent city right before this one. "Check out" if officially 11, but I checked out at the crescent city koa at 3 o'clock with only a nice smile and a "see you soon". When I went to check out at gold hill, they wanted to charge me a $10 late checkout fee! It'd be different if we were in a cabin, or a hotel, but they were rude and pushy, and couldn't have pushed us out fast enough. Edit: have now been to over a dozen KOAs within a year, still by far the worst we were ever treated. I would stay at the campsite near wolf creek. Nicer people, cleaner bathrooms, more space in sites.

    Response from the owner

Hello moses, Thanks for sharing your experience. We're very sorry to hear you had a disappointing experience. This is a training opportunity for our staff and we will be working hard to improve our guest interactions at every level.

The park was clean and well maintained. I'd give it 5 stars if it were a little less expensive than other area campgrounds.

It's a decent place to stay but the spaces are very close together and there was dog droppings all over the yard in the space. Several times we got it on our shoes. So that was not good. But at least we had a place to stay while in the RV.

quiet and serene. The cows were cute, had a nice game and book library. The pool was a pleasant break in the journey. They have cabins to rent if you're not into camping.

5stars! The campground was well maintained. Clean bathrooms that were well lit and kept warm with free showers open 24hrs. Camp hosts were friendly and accommodating. We arrived late and they had a map detailing exactly where our tent site was so we could find it easily in the dark. I was impressed with the functionality of the camp and will definitely be returning and will recommend to friends!👍

We were in gold hill visiting today and I figured I would come check out the campground for future camping trips. I entered the park and just did a quick loop through the main road. Halfway through I was stopped by a camp host who chewed me out asking what I was doing. I replied I was just looking at campground for future trips and he said I should have checked in with office. I tried explaining I didn't know that and that I wasn't even getting out of my vehicle. He said "yea well now you know" and drove off.I experienced an extremely rude staff member within 2 minutes in the park. The campground looked nice, to bad the staff was not more helpful or kind.

Camp hosts were very nice. Super clean campground with a nice park for the kids. Spots are nice and not too close together. Had to change reservations at the last minute and the woman who answered the phone was very helpful and changed it without issue. The campgroubd also had little cabins for rent and a nice pool, neither of which we used, but nice nonetheless.

It's very nice. Check in was good. A bit limited on knowledge of local area but that'll improve in time (we guess new mgmt/staff). Little tight to maneuver RVs but doable. Only issue was guy with clipboard at 11:30 a.m. on departure day scolding that checkout is 11 a.m....we felt rushed to pack up & leave.

We pulled in at 9:30pm exhausted from a day that seen about 10 hrs of driving. Now mind you, we had no reservations but this KIND lady, I believe her name was Carol,😇 got us a place to stay right away-I guess the look on my face said it all. Beautiful setting with all the trees, very clean and a nice pool that was open until 10:00pm😁. This will now be a regular stop for us when traveling to the Northwest. Thanks again for caring when we pulled in!

My family and I loved our visit to the KOA. The grounds were very well kept, bathrooms were clean & the employees were very nice and accommodating. There is a great playground, a nice grassy knoll to play volleyball & plenty of pavement for a nice walk. Very peaceful atmosphere. This is definitely a great spot to take your entire family including your pets!! We can't wait to visit again. Thank you GOLD HILL KOA :)

Right off the interstate, this campground is convenient for people travelling. But the entrance is not clearly marked; I think an arrow would clarify that. According to the sign on the office masks are required. However, that must only apply to campers because the owners had to be asked to put their masks on inside the office. The store is sparsely stocked and prices were really high. ($4 marshmallows) The bathrooms were clean and stocked and there is a code to get into them. The cabins were very dimly lit and there were no benches other than what is attached to the wall between the beds. The handle on the cabin door was filthy. With COVID still rampant, this campground should be more proactive about cleaning them. The campground in general is rather worn out. The playground was small and not inviting. There is a dog park, but it is really small and far away from overnight sites. Many of the campers appear to be seasonal. Good for a quick overnight, but maybe not for a vacation stay.

    Response from the owner

Thank you for your review. As the new park owners we are committed to constantly improving the park and our guests experience. We will review all of your comments with our staff and implement strategies to make your next stay even better.

In order to be a 5 star, you have to have a lot of amenities and concrete pads. This campground was basic with a playground, pool, game room, and bath house. Spaces between campers were pretty small up front. The monthly spots in the back had more space though. Neighbors also had bikes stolen from 2 different campers. If you see a grey cat with white paws, give him a pet - his name is Frederick and he's very friendly and needs a new home.

Right off the start we travel from place to place an so far upon check in: was great friendly and informative. The spot we have is comfortable next to bathrooms and facilities, wasnt hard to park the rv. The showers dont cost extra!! Was way happy about that. I have 2 kids and showers become costly. It was great i really like it here.

Up front - our RV is a converted school bus, which the owner of this KOA doesn't allow. We didn't learn this until parked and plugged in as it isn't advertised anywhere. Luckily ours is well done and they made an exception, but if you're in a skoolie I'd recommend looking elsewhere to avoid a hassle. The park itself is fine, decent store, good playground for the kids and a nice little pool. They have a DVD lending library too which is a nice plus.

Park was beautiful. Staff was amazing. Only issue I had was when on a family walk with young grandkids in appeared to be the monthly section. There was a obviously drunk man watching television under his gazebo outside. He was being extremely loud and vulgar. It was all I could do not to give him a piece of my mind for talking that way in front of my grandkids. Kind of tainted the rest of my weekend. It inspired me to write my first google review. Would have been a five star review. Like I said park was beautiful and staff was amazing.

Had a wonderful visit to this KOA. February 2021 visit. Didn’t interact with staff except over the phone as we arrived late and left early. This KOA is well kept and situated close to the 5 freeway, you can hear the freeway from parts of the camp but it was not enough to be annoying. Lots of trees, sure it’s beautiful here in the summer. Facilities were very clean! We were car camping and got site 55- this site was perfect to put an awning over the fire pit- also love a site that has fire pits open year round. WiFi was decent, was going to do laundry but the facility closed at 6pm. Everyone I saw indoors wore a mask, which was a nice plus.

I had such a great time here: clean restrooms, laundry, free games/books and grills to do a barbecue if you want. Despite that, employees are not very kind and there is no food variety in the shop so you better stock yourself before going.

Clean, courteous, relatively quiet except for the freeway hum. Nothing fancy, but was a pleasant stop for our family of four passing through the region. My kiddos enjoyed the little old school playground and visiting the neighborhood cows. Laundry, hot showers, COVID precautions - check, check, check.

Beautiful location, close to lots of river activities. Space was very shady and just the right size. Only compliant is the cigarette smoke from other campers. Wish there could be designated smoking areas away from the main sites. Overall, a thoroughly lovely weekend.
