Lake Michigan Credit Union 32nd Ave, Hudsonville

My husband just died this month. I am a legal signer on his business account (and Executor of his financial affairs according to our Trust). I need to access his account to pay clients and the IRS and take one last small paycheck from his earnings. I have banked at LMCU for years and always loved how they treat their patrons. Unfortunately though, I understand that the kind of issues I am being confronted with is a common scenario with this credit union. Thank God there is a law backed by the Supreme Court that the bank will have to reckon with. Please stand with me in prayer that the bank will decide on policies that do not bring harm to widows or widowers, forcing legal expenses in order to access funds the bank freezes unnecessarily.

I remember when LMCU was GR Teacher's Credit Union. Yes, they have grown and appreciate the services for us the membership. Hudsonville branch is one of the best that I have experienced. Obviously, if you go during high traffic volume then we all have to be patient. Still very Recommended.

I reached out for an auto loan. I have a 772 credit score and offered to put up to 50% down on the vehicle I wanted. I was denied. The bank also discriminated against me for my age which is illegal. Crazy because if this was 2007, I wouldn’t need any documents, wouldn’t need any credit and would get approved for a $500k house, no questions asked. Very quick to destroy our economy in 2008. Then absent to rebuild the economy in 2019.

I have used Lake Michigan Credit Union for my car loan for the past two years and thought everything was fine; until my payment didn't go through last month. I called in to find out why my payment didn't go through and the agent said that I should have received a letter stating why (I haven't received anything from them in two months) and that they would have given me a courtesy call within their 13 day grace period to let me know I was past due. It's 19 days past due now and I had to call them. The agent tried to excuse this by saying that her department handles a lot of accounts and can't be expected to get all of them on time. It took them 25 minutes to finally take my payment over the phone and waive the $10 fee as this was the first time in two years I've been past due. Then I was informed they couldn't help me set up my online account until the payment went through... two days from now. Meanwhile I cannot see what is happening with my account and I have no way except to call and go through that painful experience again. To top it all off, when I informed the last of the 3 agents I spoke with over a 40 minutes phone call that I would not be doing any more business with LMCU the air was dead and I eventually hung up for lack of response from her. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had to endure.

Two weeks ago, I was in Texas traveling alone with my child and someone hacked my account taking all of my funds. LMCU said we’re canceling your card and I told them my situation. They didn’t give a ****. I’d love to have a credit card with a ton of money, an emergency fund, and money to spare but I was out of work for a while due to health issues. They did nothing to help me while I was traveling. I needed gas, a place to stay, and food for my child. They left me high and dry and one manager would say one thing while another manager said something else. Lucky for me, I had a family member who made a huge sacrifice to help me get home. Many others don’t have that luxury. When you need help, a credit union won’t help you. Especially not LMCU and even when the charges are CLEARLY fraud.

LMCU reports inaccurate credit information and refuses to correct it. If you value your credit score do not do business with Lake Michigan Credit Union. They locked me out of my account for months and denied access to my account statements. I regularly attempted to make make payments but was not allowed. Months later without any notice I discovered they had reopened my account. Of course I brought it current once granted access. Unethical organization.

The head teller is very friendly and welcoming, which made it an easy decision to open a Max Checking account here. I am hoping that the rest of the staff will follow that example in order to provide even better customer service.
