Heartland Credit Union Reviews

I opened an account with David at the Willy street location and he was AMAZING! He was so helpful and made sure that I knew all the options I have! Also he took the time to help me set up my online banking just to make sure I didn’t leave and have to set it up at home in case something went wrong!

I really like this credit union! They have excellent service! They always respond to my emails if I have a problem. David M is knowledgeable!

Member for 5+ years. Multiple mortgages, car loans, CC, checking savings etc. I cannot expressive how awful their third party anything is. In the past couple years, setting up mortgage paper work or questions regarding bank transfers, fees, payoffs; always get the wrong answer. Always delayed paperwork, always rude communication when calling to ask how they messed it up this time. They’re terrible, everyone except for April in the mortgage department. I’m closing all my accounts and my wife’s as well. Imagine the pain of setting up all new payments getting new debit cards, credit cards, switching auto loans etc. it’s so worth it to just never have to call their number or send them another email again; because it’s only gotten worse over the years- never better. Seriously terrible

WOW! I have a REALLY difficult time understanding the possibility for the bad reviews a few people have written about Heartland. I've been a member for YEARS. I first joined up in the 1970s, but during a stint in the U. S. Marine Corps, I let my membership lapse, and didn't renew it until the early 1980s, when the place was called Telco Credit Union. I've done my financial management (I won't call it "banking" because they're NOT a bank) at several different locations, and have invariably been treated with respect and courtesy, and in a friendly manner. I've done my main transacting at the location formerly located at the corner of West Washington and South Bedford, at the main offices out on High Crossing Boulevard, and now with the offices on Williamson Street. Just two days ago I went in to have someone show me how to use their mobile app to deposit a check. Manager Nicole took me into her office and took all of the time it needed to help me know how to do what I wanted to. A certain fair number of the tellers have paid close enough attention that they greet me by name when I walk up. Don't expect that from a bank!
Thank you for the kind words, Michael! We love it when our member-owners are happy!

Kahlen was very helpful in explaining a savings account to me and the benefits. I really like the new modern look to this place.
Thanks for the kind words, Heather! And, for your patience while we remodeled the Willy Street location.

Needed help on verifying corporate account information for a small commercial condominium association I had volunteered to manage. I met with Bradley at the Willy Street office. After verification of my identity he was extremely professional and helpful in providing me the information that was lacking in the files I was given by the original property developer.

Think twice before signing up with heartland, they don't have any customer service. You can call and leave a voicemail but nothing will happen until after the weekend is over, so is that even really service at all? If their sloppy, inaccurate fraud prevention shuts down your card they don't text you or email you or anything. You have no idea why your card isn't working. And if it happens at night or on a weekend you're entirely SOL. They literally have no customer service outside of daytime weekday hours. Don't be a fool and think you're doing some kind of public service by choosing a credit union over a bank, the service is terrible. Credit unions brag about how local they are but don't provide any help when you actually need them. I don't need customer service during weekday hours, that's when I'm at work myself, that doesn't help me. I need customer support After Hours. Their app and website are horribly dated and hard to use, they lack nearly all the modern features every real bank has. It's been years and years and their tech never gets better, they're 10 years behind the tech of any real bank. And good luck traveling, you can't use any card from your credit union if you travel. And when you deposit a check or get your tax refund it takes extra days to actually hit your account, meanwhile your friends with accounts at real banks already have the money in their account and are spending it. Learn from other's mistakes. Don't ever bank at a credit union just because they claim to be "local", choose the bank with the best features and service. Otherwise you'll be stuck with a "local" company that doesn't have your back, and is never there when you actually need them, like heartland.
Hi Chad -- Robin @ Heartland here. I just left you an email and provided my mobile number. I'd like to chat and find out specifically what issues you're having -- you seem to be having an extraordinary amount of trouble and I'd like to help.

UPDATE: HCU was kind enough to let me extricate myself remotely. Years ago I ended my term of service with the Army and I came back to my small hometown farmers bank to open an account for direct deposit. The teller reminded my that I still had an account from when I was working before I enlisted. Using Heartland's logic, the farmers bank should have presented me a bill for $540. Examine your process Heartland, you are either incredibly inefficient, or remarkably greedy. It should never take $15 dollars a month to leave an account alone for 3 years, my tiny hometown farmers bank managed to do it in the 80's. I wish you luck for the time you remain in business. ____________________________________________________________________ The absolute worst business. They won't let you close your account (unless you take time off of work and drive there), but will charge you $15 dollars a month if you don't close it. I'm sorry I every got mixed up with these leeches. STAY AWAY, whatever they are offering, they will make up with hidden fees later. NOT WORTH IT.
Hi, Timetheous. I'm not sure what might be special about your situation but .. we close accounts remotely all the time. We do, however, need to verify the person closing the account is actually the person who owns the account. I'll check into this personally fisrt thing tomorrow morning and get you an update. If you prefer, contact me directly at [email protected]. Robin@Heartland UPDATE: Timetheous, your account has been inactive for over a year now. We send monthly statements and numerous letters to the address on which you opened the account to notify you that your account is inactive. These accounts cost the cooperative and it's member/owners a lot of money each month. That's why, only after we attempt to reach inactive members via letter, we begin debiting the account. Closing the account is easy and you don't need to do it in person. (If, however, your address doesn't match the one on file, we may ask you to fill out a "Change of Address" form -- again -- online.) Again, you can reach me at [email protected] (ask for Robin) and I'll help you get the account closed.

I go to several credit unions because I’m a shared branch member. I’ve never been demeaned before by simply asking a question about a fee. I never ever leave reviews but his rudeness really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Jessica, I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Could you please email me ([email protected]) and let me know the location you're speaking to and any other details I should know? Robin @ Heartland
