Not the friendliest staff, too much issues about making appointments when there is nobody inside and if you need something in a bit of emergency they make you feel like such a burden to them and their daily job Because now they have to stop everything they're doing or meeting just to help you??? I believe that's why you work here to help clients out??? There is usually two tellers and maybe two clients and yet we still have to wait cause the one will be doing some other thing.... Always hard to find parking too...Now with covid19 a little better...But yeah this place needs to upgrade their customers service or train the current employees about customer service... Not good!

This bank is a reminder of old style banking where the tellers and branch manager know your name and are always available to help you. That's been especially important during this pandemic when the branch manager is monitoring the lobby for social distancing and really controlling the access.

They actually brag about no longer having "quality assurance mystery shopping" so prepare yourself for long lines, people with broken English, plenty of lazy bankers sitting behind you "on the phone" while you wait for the one teller to sound out every "policy term" and If you cut in line? No problem, they'll let the customers hash it out before doing anything remotely professional for the 3 people patiently waiting. The most uncivilized group of incompetent bankers in downtown San Mateo.

Was looking for some assistance in some credit payments I needed to make and Christine was able to work with me in finding what I needed.

From the first time I stepped in Bank of the West, I knew I was where I belonged. The ambiance lured me in from an alleyway across the street, and I was almost hit by three cars while running wildly to the other side of the street. I put my hand on the door handle and it was like experiencing a door handle for the first yet at the same time it felt so familiar. I came. I went inside only to find the most beautiful decorum I've ever seen along with the even more beautiful people. I had always thought that banks were useless; before this I always kept my money in a trash can in my backyard(that's where they wouldn't expect it), but upon walking up to the teller I was in a state of such euphoria that I somehow opened up a savings and checking account. I don't remember my conversation with the teller, and that will forever be my biggest regret. This place changed my life, and I hope that it will do the same for you.

My experiences have always been very positive at this branch. The tellers are friendly and greet you with a smile. The branch manager is amazing! She is very competent and always goes the extra mile to assist you.
