APCO Employees Credit Union Reviews

We recently refinanced our mortgage due to the excellent interest rate and no closing costs offer. The experience with the MLO was fair at best. He was slow to respond, whited out information on the LE, got huffy with me when I was upset about the white out and asked for a clear LE and dumped me on someone else. Closing at the title company was a good experience. Then, three weeks post-closing, we received notice APCO would force-place insurance. Obviously, our Dec page was updated and provided with our supporting documentation prior to closing. I called the number on the letter, sent the Dec page again, was told via an email to wait 48 hours to follow up. I did and they still claim they had no insurance. The person I spoke with the second time contacted State Farm and confirmed I had insurance. However, my name is not even shown on the APCO records as a mortgagee or homeowner. I conclude APCO is a sexist organization who discounts women homeowners in favor of a male spouse. Additionally, we have been bombarded with at minimum one mailing per day wanting us to purchase Mortgage Life Insurance related to our APCO mortgage. So I also must conclude that signing an OptOut for third party sharing is also meaningless for this organization. Had I known all of this, I would have been inclined to pay a higher interest rate for better service.

Not a good place for a long term savings account. A savings account is a place where your money can be kept safely, if they see no money added or withdrawn over a couple of months, they start charging a "fee" until the account is drained dry. The whole point of the account is to keep my money safe there. This should serve as an indicator to the type of bank this is.

Got a mortgage through APCU a year ago, the loan officer I worked with wasn't helpful and actually lost my paperwork which delayed the closing by 3 months. I don't have other accounts there but since then I have gone in for a couple of things and the people have been helpful (that's why I'm giving 2 stars). Hopefully my experience was isolated and they fired the person who screwed up my account.

My wife talked me in trying her credit union and I did only to find out you can't use a password manager with there website or iPhone app. Where the password manager keeps your very hard to remember passwords it copies the pass word to the log on page I called and they said that was the reason I was locked out of my account. Never had this problem with Legacy federal credit union I guess you live and you learn

I have been a member of APCO Employees Credit Union for almost 20 years. The service you receive is always top-notch. Great people with the desire to help their members! Thank you!

They have good products and decent rates for savings. Customer service is BAD. God help you if you ever have questions or need help. The person you need to talk to is never there and they DO NOT return calls.

So far I am not very impressed with this credit union. I am not sure if it is just the person that we dealt with or the entire credit union. We made an appointment to do an auto loan and it felt like the initial person that helped us at the Clanton branch talked down to us the entire time. We had to leave and get some additional documentation, which was fine, but we were not given all of the information that we needed. I had called to double check to see what we needed and so it was ready when we came back to the branch. When we came back to the branch a couple of days later I was told that we did not have everything that we needed. On top of that, the person that was supposed to be helping was not even in the branch that day and she had passed everything off to another employee. I understand that sometimes you can't be at work but the reason for her absence was apparently planned weeks in advance. She had made an appointment with us and we expected to meet with her since she knew the entire scenario. We did get the loan done, and I am very appreciative of that and the employee that helped us the second time, but it was much harder than it had to be! Once we were done with the loan we, again, did not get all the information that should have been passed to us. We were informed that insurance was going to be force placed on the loan if we did not provide proof of insurance. We got insurance on the vehicle BEFORE we even went to finalize the loan. If the proper questions were asked at the time of closing by the lender then this all could have been avoided. I hope our future encounters with this credit union are better.

The biggest thing is that APCO credit union is truly ran to benefit its members. The people at the main office in Birmingham are always very friendly. I have been a member since 2006. This has been my primary bank ever since, even though I have not lived in Alabama since 2007.
Thank you, Mark! We appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Better than any big bank you will find. I've done a lot of business with APCO and they have always treated me great. Best APR of any lender I've seen. I just wish they had a business account so I could use them for everything.

Been a member since 2008. Great bank, little behind on the Mobile side slightly but hard to beat customer service and Bank itself.
