I will start by saying that my wife is an experienced Real Estate broker and that my options for choosing a lender were not at all limited. We decided to go with Fidelity because they were linked with our builder and would give a $3,000.00 closing cost allowance. I think anyone that had this opportunity would agree that it sounds like a good idea. I will say now that I would have gladly spent the extra to go with a lender I could count on and save us the stress of the situation. In the beginning all was smooth and everyone seemed to be very knowledgeable about the process so I was pleased. I was working with Phil Urick first and he seemed to be the typical salesperson that you would deal with in any type of transaction like this, which I was comfortable with. Once the deal was passed to Jillian Belcon, things seemed to get a little unorganized. I was told that I would need certain documents and always sent them the evening of the request. I was told that they could not open the forms in any other format than a PDF which was odd, but, I made those changes and would send them back. On July 7th she sent me a final request for documents, which I returned to her on the 8th. On the 22nd, I received a request for the same documents she had requested on the 7th. I replied that I had sent them on the 8th and to please let me know if she couldn't find them. She then proceeded to tell me that she had received the email but only one page was visible. So she waited 14 days to inform me that she had not received the documents. With my closing scheduled for August 4th, I was no in panic mode to get her the documents that she told me she now needed by the following day, plus more documents she would add on as the day went forward. Some of the documents needed to be signed by parties that were out of state and unable to get them signed that evening, which caused an obvious problem. Unfortunately I was told that was my problem because I could have sent those documents sooner. I called Phil and told him what was happening to which he replied that he would handle it. After some drama we got all the documents taken care of and were able to breath again with the normal stresses of closing on a new home. Phil had told me he would meet me at the closing. The day of closing, I arrived at the attorneys office to find that the documentation that was sent to the attorney was incorrect. I called Phil to tell him we needed it corrected and very soon, and he assured me he would. 30 minutes later the wrong paperwork shows up for the second time, and by this time I was less than impressed. When finally the correct paperwork show up at the office, there is a discrepancy with some of the charges I was told would not be on the contract, but they appeared there anyway. At this point, I told Phil to just leave the office, get things straightened out, and call when it was all corrected. Upon leaving, he tried to hand me an envelope, however, there was nothing I would want from him or the firm he represents. Do your homework before selecting a lender, because you're paying them and you need to know they are a team you can trust!
