Alternatives Federal Credit Union N Fulton St, Ithaca

Long time member, and was blown away by how unprofessional my last encounter with them was. 90% of the time I've had good experiences with them but that 10% knocks them down to 1star for me. A bank or credit union is not the place to be unprofessional. Changed to Tompkins trust and feel much better doing business with them. There are better options.

Stay far away from Alternatives Federal Credit Union, unless you like being treated like DIRT! The tellers are the worst and management doesn't care or do anything. Choose any other bank besides this one#

I used to absolutely love being a member of Alternatives. The last year though has got me rethinking my place here. The staff went from being professional, knowledgeable and helpful to slacking, rude and frumpy. I don't mind a more relaxed attitude especially with the stress COVID has brought but they are going to far.

I have been a member of AFCU for 30+ years. I have been consistently pleased with the service and services, but more than that I believe in the importance of the work they are doing: educating people to help them use their finances wisely. They have many programs to promote financial literacy and justice, and continue to try to meet the evolving needs of people who have been typically underserved

Own a business locally nearby and ran out of change. As my personal vehicle was in the shop for repairs, I could not travel to my own bank. This was my first time ever stopping in this institution,and I asked to change 200.00 for 5's and 10's. After waiting in line for 10 minutes,while one of the two tellers on duty was carrying on a personal conversation with someone at the counter, I was treated rudely and told unless you are an "exclusive member here, we can not make change for you". Needless to say, I left with a very poor first impression. Not a way to do business!!!!!! So I continued across the road to their competition, the Tompkins County Trust Co., where they were friendly and more than happy to accommodate my needs. Kudos to TCT! Shame on Alternatives!

Spent 20 minutes on their phone line waiting for a customer service rep. After the system just hung up on me I called back hit the call me when the first representative is available, that was 2.5 hours ago a "1 location small town bank" has a 2.5+ hour call backlog? Is it the 1 sloth from Zootopia answering the phones?

I love this place. The workers are always helpful and very understanding. Definitely a lot nicer than other banks I've banked at. They saved my life by helping me navigate the very stressful process of debt consolidation. Literally, I was at my last straw and felt so defeated. They picked me back up and gave me confidence and helped me to achieve my goal of financial wellness.

Numerous issues with them (mis)processing mortgage payments and mistakenly reporting late payments that showed up on my credit report. One employee in particular was unhelpful and downright rude. Excited to refinance and leave this institution as quickly as possible.

I was very unimpressed with the time management and bad communication with this bank. Actually began a business account here due to some other people high praise and was very unimpressed to say the least.

This place is an absolute joke. I made twenty phone calls to process my loan. I call to follow up nobody can even find my loan application. Very sloppy and very unorganized and bad customer service!
