    Acadia Federal Credit Union Reviews

Acadia FCU has a lot of hidden fees on their checking and savings account, which I noticed after opening an account but their is a fee to close an account so i stuck with them for 1 year. After moving and opening a new bank account, I accidentally forgot to change one of my automatic payments which resulted in a negative 13$ balance on my Acadia FCU account that I was unaware of. Instead of contacting me, Acadia reported my account to the Federal Credit Bureau which damaged my credit score significantly. They never reached out to clear the issue up with me(which could have been as easy as a simple phone call), but were happy to report me over a mere 13$! When I tried to contact the bank to clear up the issue, several employees avoided my phone call. When I finally was able to speak with someone, they stated they would not work with me, did not care that my credit had been severely damaged, and was EXTREMELY rude on the phone. Would highly recommend staying away from this credit union, which does not care about the well-being of its members whatsoever!

    Response from the owner

Hello Allie, We understand that you might be frustrated with some of our policies and procedures, and while we cannot discuss any specific matters to any of our members’ accounts due to our strict mandate to keeping their business private, we can provide what we do with regards to all members in general. We do disclose all our fee directly to our members at the time of account opening and provide them a full copy of them to have as a reference. Any transaction that causes an insufficient fee to be charged on any account automatically generates a notice that is mailed to the address on record for the account. This notice is mailed directly for each insufficient fee generated. Our fee is $20 per incident, which is one of the lowest out of the financial institutions in the area. We never report negative transactions on our members checking accounts to independent agencies like Chex Systems or other credit bureaus. The only time we do is when an account is deemed uncollectable and charged off, thereby causing Acadia and the members a loss of the negative balance. Before charging off any account, there is a letter that is mailed to the member and a call made to the phone number on file. Once a checking account is charged off, we again sent a letter to the address on record notifying the member that this was done. We do want to point out that at any time in this process, and even beyond the charged-off state, Acadia will always accept payment to return the account to a positive balance and the member to good standing. The report would also then go out to the agencies and bureaus that the account was paid in full. All our policies and procedures are set up to help the member avoid any fees, any negative effects, and restore them to sound financial standing so we can continue to assist them with their financial needs. We do appreciate your input and are extremely sorry that you find your experience was not positive. We welcome continued discussion as to how we can work together to remedy this situation. Sincerely, Acadia FCU
