Aaron Taravella at GMFS Mortgage - NMLS #364712 Durham Pl, Baton Rouge

My experience is similar to that of Kelly Grimes, who posted a negative review 4 months prior to mine. First my initial closing documentation which details my cash to close DRASTICALLY changed 3 times over the period of a week due to improper calculations and math done by the underwriting team at GMFS. This was over a $5,000 variation. That s a lot of money to met, which I would have liked to be prepared for before closing. Then, at closing, I was $14.31 short due to a wire transfer fee that was applied by my bank incorrectly. I advised the closing agent of this and she stated it would not be an issue, as these things happen all the time and we went ahead with the closing anyway. My closing agent stated she would take the $14.31 out of her service fee, which is common place, and if anything I could pay 14 dollars to her in cash. After signing all of the closing documents, which is already a tedious process, I had to wait approximately 2 hours to find out GMFS would not take cash, or a reduction by the title company in their fees. I was told my closing would not go through unless I could get a certified check for GMFS at 6:00pm on a Friday. Allegedly, my agent called and texted Aaron on Friday to see if there was anything he could do, but he was no where to be found. The attorney handling my closing said she has never seen anything like this in 25 years of closings. This resulted in me having to drive over an hour and a half on Monday morning to hand deliver a $14.31 check to complete my closing. This was all over $14.31! I jokingly said I would buy Aaron a beer at the Pelicans game, which would cost more than that anyway! In addition to my horrible closing experience, the loan approval process was cumbersome, and often seemed more in-depth what was should have been required. I also had to submit documents multiple times during the process, as If I didn't already send the documents. Aaron is a good person, answered my phone calls and apologized deeply for my experience, but his office seems disorganized and his team did not appear to be on the same page throughout the entirety of the process.

The worst experience I’ve ever had with a mortgage company. Communication was confusing all along the way. This caused the closing to be postponed because the wrong account information was given in the final closing email. Now I’m worried about the escrow account and whether or not they are going to pay taxes and insurance on time. Aaron was always friendly and available to take my calls and responded quickly to text messages. He didn’t always seem to know what was going on once the process was underway. Unfortunately, there were several miscommunications between the staff towards the end of the process which created a 4 hour closing. Not the best first time home buyer closing experience, but we successfully closed with GMFS.

Aaron, Charmaine and the rest of the GMFS team were extremely thorough, attentive, and patient with us during the tenure of our loan process! They were always prompt and let us know immediately of any updates or changes. I am grateful to have had their expertise throughout the loan approval phase and would definitely work with them again in the future. Thank you so much for all that you have done and continue to do!
