    State Bank of India Reviews

Though I’ve never been a fan of SBI (especially the one in Bangalore, India) and many times SBI servers are not working. There is always one dedicated employee who can still change the entire experience for you. I had to take my mother for her Pension life certificate update, Khairi was very helpful, guided me through the steps. Also, I read many reviews about not answering the phone, it depends on how busy the place is. I saw phones being answered when it was less crowded, so plan it well. Tip for oldies: if you are above 80 years and want to visit for life certificate, you can go in October instead of November.

I have been a customer with this bank for few years now. They have now become a worst kind of bank one can imagine. They now moved into a new "secure" platform, which turned into a nightmare for customers like me. I am not sure if they know what they are doing. Incompetency is palpable. Most frustrating issue is one can not reach through phone or email. They probably do not deserve even 1 star

wish I had an option to rate 0 stars for the State Bank of India New York branches customer service. I have been sending multiple messages regarding incorrect charges being debited from account and no one care to respond despite repeated calls. Absolutely HOPELESS customer service, finally decided to close my accounts and move out.

This bank deserves negative stars. They came up with this YONO banking which requires OTP for every single action you take on the website. Best part is they don't generate OTP most of the times which makes their online banking useless. They atleast picked up phone which is considered a great achievement and their response is that OTP system is not working for past 10 days which shows how incompetent this bank and its employees are.

K.G. Lakshmi provides a great service, I was pleasantly surprised when she returned my call even though I had not left a message, very knowledgeable and thorough in her work. I normally do not write lot of reviews but I was very happy with their service. Thanks Lakshmi!!

Excellent customer service - Khairi is amazing and very knowledgeable. She provided sharp and accurate guidance on my NRE accounts on issues in which I had been looping for months.

I have been a customer for the last few years and used to have challenges in the past getting a hold of someone that could help out. Sometimes I had to call a few times to get a hold of someone. Recently I have experienced excellent customer service thanks to Shabina Patel. For the first time, I have State bank of India calling me back to check if my issues have been resolved or if I have any questions or concerns. With this positive change in customer service experience I would highly recommend banking here. Some of the advantages are good exchange rate if you need to transfer money to India and also attractive prices on CDs.

We went to the bank on Nov 20 and Khairi was very helpful during the entire process. She was also very friendly. If you need any help she is a great person at SBI.

Horrible staff. No one picks up phone in this bank. I had an account in this bank. The bank transferred it to state unclaimed property by their mistake without informing me. I was never notified. Bank said they sent me a certified letter but they don’t have any proof/records of it. This bank works like an Indian government offices.

I was apprehensive at first based on all the reviews but after spending time there getting my NRO application validated, I found it to be a pleasant experience. This is due to all of Khairi's help who patiently walked through the application, checked for errors and explained the overall process. I would give her 5 stars but the brand overall 4 stars as there is no clear signage when you walk in as to any sort of line or who you talk to. There are 4 sitting booths plus 1 standing booth. Only 2 were occupied with employees helping clients so one just waits around to find someone free to explain why you're there and then they direct you to the right person. The NRO application took about 2.5 hours to process because there is only one person involved with that area. She was extremely helpful but 1 person can only help 1 person naturally. Then the documents were verified in a back office that took another 45 minutes. But everyone was polite. Key tip: Come prepared with your paperwork and documents. Don't just show up and start demanding answers. They will treat you with respect if you treat them with respect.

The customer service of SBI NY is pathetic. 90% of time there is no one to pick up the call and it goes to voicemail. No one ever returns voicemail message. And on a rare occasion when someone does pick up the phone, the person doesn't know how to even solve simplest of issues. SBI NY simply doesn't care about customer. It's like the bank is doing me a favor by allowing me to bank with them.

Rashmi provided exemplary service in opening a bank account. She went above and beyond in answering all our questions and expediting our application process. We would highly recommend working with Rashmi at SBI New York branch.

I had to visit this branch of SBI to get my forms checked out. Although the system of getting forms validated in person seems a bit archaic in this day and age, Khairi from the front desk was really helpful and accommodating

They are too lazy to respond to calls. Why are they even in business if they can't pick up a phone call during operating hours?

The staff is very good and very attentive. They get 5 stars. But there's something wrong with the bank. I tried opening an nre account and more than a month nothing moves. Never thought it would be so bad. Unfortunately the staff can't help either. Not sure who makes decisions and oversees operations. They need to rethink of their approach to gain customer confidence. Delays are, to some extent, okay but no one has a clue esp. the India offices and customer care. They don't care. If you have options, I suggest don't bank with SBI until they invest in efficiency and clear communication.

Bad experience. 1) Called but no response. Waited for a call back. No one responded. 2) Went to the bank. There was only one person who had knowledge of opening a NRE account. She was completely occupied. Waited for a hour but she was not available. 3) Asked whether anyone else could assist with opening an account? The response was NO. 4) The atmosphere and attitude of staff reminded me of a typical nationalized bank in India. I wonder whether anyone realizes that they are operating in the heart of NY???

This excuse of a bank is the most unprofessional, tact-less establishment I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with. With full knowledge that I was living and working in India and did not have the same means of communication as I do in the States, SBI New York canceled - rather than froze - my debit card without any pre- or post- notification to me. While communicating with the bank regarding a separate issue, I found out about this disastrous situation. Throughout the extensive process I went through to apply for and have a new debit card sent to me in India, SBI remained unaccommodating and unconcerned about the horrible position they put me in as the account-holder. I have been unable to withdraw the money in my account for two months now. The bank altogether stopped responding to my email correspondences. This bank has only made things increasingly difficult for me. RUN, do not walk, from SBI New York.

I visited the branch to open an account, the girl sitting at the last counter next to Teller was so unprofessional. I was approached by her after 15 minutes of waiting, she was busy with her phone had headphones on. After speaking to her it turns out to be a very loud person, spoke very fast her English was understandable . I was very disappointed with her service and I can’t believe this type of service is at SBI NYC!
