    Standard Bank Reviews

I see some of these reviews that are considered one star. To me these people never really got to know the tellers in this bank, plus they can only due what the bank rules are. They will complain for maybe something that they think is the tellers fault. Long story short....These are the best bank tellers in Monroeville. They take the time and always will go out of their way to help with any problem you may have. So before you criticize this bank, try stopping inside and talk to the tellers, I guarantee you will change your mind. I recommend this bank to anyone who wants great service from all of their employees.

Until recently, I had recommended Standard Bank to family and friends for mortgage needs. However, the loan officer I dealt with left the bank. My problem with Standard Bank is that the property I had purchased had a secondary "mother-in-law" detached structure on the property. It has no heat, no water, no electricity, no windows, no furniture, and no appliances. However, due to the integral garage being 3-inches into the flood zone, Standard Bank is requiring that I carry flood insurance on it to cover it's value, which the bank appraised to be less than $10,000. Per federal guidelines, a detached secondary structure not being used as a residence does not require flood insurance. It is up to the bank to determine if the structure could be used as a residence (or needs to be used as collateral, which $10k would not) and make a GOOD FAITH DETERMINATION on if it could be used as a residence. Given that it does not have any of the items above, it is clear that it could not be, however Standard Bank refuses to make that good faith determination and instead requiring the building to be demolished before they will waive the flood requirement. I've tried everything I could to discuss and find out exactly why they are determining it to be a residence despite the facts, and they refuse to give me a straight answer and only that it is "non-negotiable" that I carry flood on it until the building is demolished. No heat, no water, no appliances, no windows, no electricity, no furniture = no residence. Not making a good faith determination for their customer and not providing answers to questions on what it is about the property that requires me to have flood goes to show they care little about their customers financial needs and safety if they want their customer to demolish a sound structure for no reason. Obviously they weren't willing to look up the facts and probably felt the old structure diminished the property value and if I would ever default, this was a way for them to force me to remove it even if the laws were on my side, they still got to make a "determination" that even without utilities, heat, windows, that it "looked" like a house and therefore is a house. I have plans in the coming years to improve the property greatly, and I'll be shopping for a new lender.

They used to be 5 star location. Recently they have promoted most of their regular tellers and did not have anyone to replace them now full of new tellers and when they get busy unable to handle it. Appears tue managers do not have a drawer so they can not help anyone or take someone do there deposit or cash a check. Frustrating to be there 20 mins then you have to leave because there printer is down and you have to wait for another teller

Needed 20 $1 dollar bills and they wouldn't exchange a $20 for them. Said it wasn't worth their time.

    Response from the owner

Mr. DiCandilo, we do have a policy that we cannot exchange money across the teller line without an account. This is a common practice and is in place for audit purposes. We do apologize for the inconvenience!”
