I started with Simple Bank several years ago. They were a great bank. In May 2021, BBVA USA bought them out and moved my account to their bank. Early July, I had several auto pay items hit my account, some I was unaware of. The 3 charges totalled $30 (est). With NO notification, they Returned all 3 items and charged me $66.00. $32.00 per item. I called the bank and reversed the charges. I asked the phone teller how I can stop this from happening and was told to set up notifications on the website/app to prevent this from happening again. On July 18th, it happened again, 3 charges totally $20 (est) hit my account, all 3 were returned and I was once again charged $66 ($32x3) This time, they only gave me $32 credit and offered NO SOLUTION to prevent this from happening again. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was denied. I have 2 other banks I use that DO NOT practice this highway robbery. I had to remove close to 15 small auto payments going to this bank because I don't trust them. Buyer Beware......

I would give no stars, but that isn't an option. Tired of talking to Customer Service in Guatemala--who by the way, doesn't even have a BBVA in the entire country. I have had a BBVA credit card which has the highest interest rate of any card I own. I have been turned down twice for a credit limit increase, with a hard pull and despite the fact that I have 7 bank accounts with BBVA and a total of $75,000 in my checking account, a good credit score and yearly income of $200,000. I could reach Donald Trump faster than an Executive with BBVA. The worst bank I've ever worked with---moving my accounts to Progress Bank--Alabama-based with personal service. I have HAD it.

One star is better than deserved. Terrible. I was forced to this bank when they absorbed Simple. They tout being The digital bank of the 21st century the app rarely works, the online service is frequently "unavailable" phone service is limited at best. I will be moving all my accounts to Discover and refinancing my car loan just to move it. Simple was amazing and this bank was backing them for years, I just don't understand how you can watch it done that well, then screw it up this bad overnight.

WARNING to anyone considering opening a Money Market account at BBVA because of the advertised high rate...DON’T DO IT!!!! DO NOT FALL VICTIM to their deceptive marketing practices and awful customer service. I haven’t fully closed my account yet, but will give you just one example of why this bank is so dysfunctional. I had to drive two hours from my house in Georgia to the closest physical BBVA branch in Oxford, Alabama to access my funds on Saturday over Memorial Day weekend to get access to my money to purchase a car. From account opening, to what I imagine will be the same experience at account closing, this whole process has been a nightmare. Management is truly oblivious and does not care about customer experience when the bank is advertising how wonderful their customer experience is, but literally EVERYTHING is difficult to do unless you go to a physical branch. Why the hell offer a nation-wide money market account special when I can even access my funds because there aren’t any branches of the bank in my state. I sent in over 6 complaints through various methods and have continued to have problems to this day. Note to the bank: don’t both posting a response about how sorry you are and saying please contact us so we can help you. This is just a public relations stunt to try and save face. Fix your awful systems and processes, that’s all the information you need from me.

I unfortunately acquired a BBVA account by way of Simple. It’s been nothing but a headache and their customer service can’t even pull up accounts. I’m counting down the seconds on the phone, literally on hold, till i can close my account at this abysmal excuse of a bank.

We used BBVA Compass Bank to finance our new BMW. Inasmuch as we are not located anywhere that BBVA has a branch, we do not have a checking or savings account with them. For this reason, we were unable to make online payments (like we're able to do with virtually every other lending company we've dealt with), and instead had to mail a check each month. I paid this account off almost exactly one month ago. The check cleared MY bank in 9 days. It is now 20 days later and I STILL do not have a lien release! I have called to inquire about this twice to no avail. Today, I called again and was informed that my lien release was mailed 6 days ago. I have yet to receive it. IF the release shows up tomorrow, it will have been almost a FULL MONTH since I sent them the payoff - and 3 WEEKS since my check cleared MY bank! The lackluster efficiency and couldn't-care-less attitude is completely unacceptable. I would strongly suggest that you find another lending institution with which to deal. These people quite clearly do not know what constitutes good and proper customer service.

I made the mistake of choosing BBVA for a construction loan. The process has been a nightmare. As other reviewers mention, the customer service here is nonexistent. I have emailed and called many, many times, and have never been able to make contact with my loan processor. The loan will likely fall through because they are unwilling or unable to help me resolve an issue with it. It has been a truly awful experience and will end up costing me money. I will also be filing a report with the Better Business Bureau to report several bad-faith acts committed by BBVA during this process. Literally, go with a loanshark over these people. As far as banks go, it doesn't get worse than BBVA.

I have been with them since the late 90s. At first they were a decent bank. I joined for free ATM, which I hardly ever used until 2020. Then I learned that not only did they take away my free ATM, they added an extra fee for using non bbva ATM. So the $2-4 fee was now closer to $10, just to pull out a $20 here or there. I didnt realize this until they had already gotten over $250 in ATM fees just for themselves, thats not including the fee the owner of the terminal charged. And now they have removed me from the "opt out" option of overdrafts and have made thousands off of me for about $100 worth of overdrafts total. That $5 overdraft that they shouldn't cover turns into a $50 fee that they don't deserve. I'm disabled and have very limited income, this month I can't even make my car payment because $30 in overdrafts turned into over $270 in fees. My fault, maybe but only because I'm dumb enough to stay with the company I have used since I was a child!

This bank robs its customers. During the covid-19 crisis. I was unable to call the bank to get them to stop my account from over drafting. my account racked up fees. I disable the card to stop the bleeding and transactions still went through charging me additional fees. The transactions were debit card transfers to different accounts. Each fee was $32.00. And they charge me extended overdraft fees. Even though I had been trying for 2 weeks to contact them. Finally I was able to get through and they only took off 4 of the fees off. During this time my account racked up over $600 in fees and I had no way of stopping it cause their lines were so busy and they won’t take the fees off. I also fax their fulfillment department and they never responded. Do not bank with these robbers. Plus they charge you to hold your money. It’s called a “maintenance fee” they already make money by loan out the money you deposit and want to charge it’s customer a “Maintenance Fee”. Do not bank with this fraudulent bank.

If you want excellent, or even average customer service, go to another bank! Credit card phone service has me on hold for 20 minutes. Second call to fix a problem. Don't know why I am even trying to get help. Staff has ZERO customer relations skills, can only provide rote answers, act like they really don't care about my problem. SERIOUSLY, this is NOT the bank to use if you want someone to help!

It was supposed to be a great day - making the final payment on a Car Loan. 1) The BBVA Compass online services were - according to their agent - unable to process my debit card. And to make it more complicated for the willing customer, they would not accept credit cards for online payment. Unbelievable ... welcome to the stone age! 2) I suggested to see a branch office in Kingwood, TX and the online agent thought this was a good idea. When I arrived there, their ONLY credit card machine was defective. We are talking about a bank here. A bank! ... well it was Halloween and the bankers at least had fun, being dressed up funny ... how professional is that?! 3) I finally found a branch in Atascocita, TX that could make the payment from my credit card. The lady behind the counter was separating the bills by tearing the paper apart by hands. Great move, the bills may eventually look a bit ugly - but who cares, it probably avoids possible accidents with scissors. I get that. 4) The next morning I looked up my checking account. 3 charges to my debit card, followed by 3 corrections payments from the BBVA Compass online services recorded. Seems my debit card was working just fine in first instance. I am sorry, I always was under the impression banking is a serious business ... but this very day changed my opinion. I mean, what do they at BBVA Compass expect a customer to feel like when most simple things fail??? Not even mentioning, that just meeting customers expectations is far out of reach for them. What a waste of time and gas!
