    PenFed Credit Union Reviews

BEWARE! I wish I had read Pen Fed reviews before I opened my account. I had big problems. Did you know that if you have a problem with a financial institution you can file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau? They are a government agency set up to protect citizens. I transferred money into my account and paid bills with the money. Pentagon Federal permanently froze my account claiming the money was fraudulently acquired. News flash: the money was NOT fraudulently acquired but the security department refused to even talk to me. They would not send me a statement. They would not let me send them documentation of activity. They essentially stole over $14,000! So I have a filed a complaint with the CFPB.

Probably one of the most unprofessional financial institutions I have ever opened an account with. To give you an example of what you will experience: I called their customer service line to ask for a new copy of an auto loan document after accidentally mis-marking the original. Instead of easily just emailing/mailing me a new one, the customer service representative told me to pull out a piece of paper and recreate it myself with a pen. I was literally baffled by that statement and almost burst out laughing. He was serious. Avoid this bank. Please.

WORST BANK EVER! Terrible service from rude rude agents, antiquated systems, long phone wait times, money sits earning no interest while they make excuses for their weeks long delays. I was trying since January to open a $35k CD. They had me submit my identity docs over 4 times! Either they would lose them, then they said they were blurry, then they said it's all good, only to be lost again. Supervisors NEVER call you back, agents drop calls on purpose, meanwhile they have $35k of mine sitting in limbo for two months. Finally opened CD 2 months later in March after I told them to just forget it and send me my money back. The Pentagon should be embarrassed they use their likeness. It's not worth the interest. Run from this loser bank.

Very confused bank. They approved my Unsecured personal loan but they refused to approve my secured home equity HELOC loan? The equity cash available is around $850K and they refused to process a $200K Heloc with a bs reason. Would never do business with them ever again.

stay away if you don't want to be told different Information every single time you talk to someone in customer service. I made 3 trips to DMV lost count of how many phone calls I had to make to PenFed and my car is still not registered. I've financed cars many times before but this has been the worst experience ever!!!

If you are military. Stick with Navy Fed or USAA. I applied for a HELOC at the beginning of November. They messed up my address information from the start of my application, even though I ensured clear pronunciation. I notified them immediately (same day) that they sent me the disclosure documentation. It still took a month for them to get it corrected in their system. I was not supposed to have to pay for an appraisal, but I believe that due to them incorrectly putting in my address led from what was supposed to be a hybrid appraisal to an in person. I had to pay for it. The person they hired for the appraisal sent a text the day of the appraisal asking to reschedule. Highly unprofessional. To make it worse the appraisal came in $50k under my modest estimate. I filed an appeal and you would think that means someone else to appraise the home, no, they sent the information to the same appraiser. Of course they are not going to admit they were wrong. It is now nearing the end of February and I can't even get responses from PenFed. What is the status of the HELOC? As far as I am concerned, cancel it. Seriously, 4 months, $500+ out of my pocket and they can't even respond.... Edit: ....3 weeks since I wrote the above review, and still nothing. Take note they don't even care to address the negative review. Edit: ...2 months since and still nothing. Edit: ... 3 months still nothing.

Probably the worst bank branch I’ve been to. Applied for an auto loan online got approved and was told to go to the nearest branch. Nearest branch was San Diego which is 2 hours away from my house. I made the drive got there when they opened and they told me they can’t print checks. Im currently at the branch after 5 hours and still nothing. They’ve been “working” on it since i got here and nothing. The manage is super i prosaic so and the head teller is super rude. Do your business elsewhere.

This is a terrible credit union to do business with. These people sent me a "pre-qualification" for a credit card in the mail. I applied and submitted all of my information. They never sent me any information to let me know I was approved and the approval expired. They did a hard pull to my credit and and then dropped the ball. When I called to find out what happened, they said there was nothing they could do. This is a violation of regulation and I'll be reporting this institution accordingly. Do not do business with this institution, they have sloppy practices!

please read those reviews its all true. I never worked with a institution so badly organized, is this really related to Pentagon? I wanted to open a saving account, so the immediately pulled a hard credit on you ! Why would the need a hard credit for open a saving account ?? Thats already a red flag ! Next day after uploading all the documents the write me an email that they can't find them.. Just wasted my time. Don't waste yours !

Like other reviewers state, I SO wish I had read the negative reviews of this place prior to depositing money with them. And as another reviewer also states, I will be following up on their SHADY, ILLEGAL business dealings with the appropriate Federal (NCUA) and State organizations to file formal complaints. Dan Miranda, specifically, the clown who calls himself the "Branch Manager" of this $#%& show, is especially rude, and unprofessional. Clowns like Miranda should be terminated for incompetence and rudeness to long standing customers with a lot of money on deposit who are ultimately paying his salary. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE.

PenFed has the worst customer service representatives, friendly, but they don't know anything. As well, beware making extra principal payments. Extra principal payments are applied only by calling a special phone number, which I found out after I'd been making additional payments on-line for the past 6 months. Can't wait to refinance and get out from under them, even if it means a higher interest rate.

I've given up on PenFed. UPDATE: THIS TIME THEY LOST MY IRA WITHDRAWAL FORM WITH MY SIGNATURES AND ACCOUNT NUMBERS ON IT THAT I HANDED TO THEM IN PERSON. IT TOOK THEIR HQ 2 WEEKS TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. THESE PEOPLE SHOULD BE FIRED FOR INCOMPETENCE. They were OK when it was Miramar CU, but since the buyout I just get the run-around there. I've had inconsistent responses when dealing with IRA certificates and when confronted, they just refuse to help. I've created money market certificates and when asking to alter the terms while still in the 10-day grace period, I get shunted and ignored. I will be closing ALL of my accounts when my last cert expires. I have already changed my direct deposits to Navy Federal CU.

Well it used to be 4 stars - but that is because I never asked for more of my $ than the ATM can give out. December 9 I took almost a 100K check to Pentagon Federal Credit Union on Miramar Rd. - because they had refused the wire transfer from the mortgage company. I requested a large cash out from that check. It is December 28 and this cash out has still not been successful! Pentagon Federal on Miramar Rd as well as thru the 1800# has consistently failed with any pro-active customer care, situation ownership or active problem solving to attain the resolution of simply complying with my legal request to access and possess my legally earned earned funds in a cash form. It is beyond ridiculous at this point! As a customer, had I failed in the agreement, as they are - I would be facing penalties, late fees, more interest, frozen accounts and legal action. Seemingly as a law- abiding US Citizen and Pentagon Federal Credit Union member(since i was a teen), I seem to have zero recourse. If anyone has ideas, please let me know. Again - Pentagon Federal Credit Union may be fine , if or until you actually want your money. What are they hiding? Why cant I have my funds? do they not have any money? FAILS no customer service zero proactive customer service zero follow thru when committing to an action or an appointment zero accountability a big fat zero
