Don't bother with this bank. It doesn't matter how long you've been a member, your income, or debt ratio. I got "all we base our rates on is credit score." I went to refinance my car through them so I'd have a local point of contact and hoping to get a little bit better interest rate. They have advertising on how "low our rates are." With a decent income, average credit score, and a good banking and payment history, I figured it was a no brainer. Not only was the interest rate they provided laughable, but the representative kept trying to sell me on a credit card with a low credit line and a personal loan for a balance that already has 0% interest. I'll keep her name out of this review to preserve my own dignity. She also peppered me with questions about why student loans were in deferment when it was a government administration decision to put all borrowers in deferment through the pandemic. Do you live under a rock? For someone who aides in the loan process for a living, I was most surprised she didn't know this and felt the need to pepper me with questions about it. Horrible treatment for local customers who want to try to give their business to a local company. They don't actually care about their customers. Bank elsewhere.

This happened to a friend: Very disappointed with Northeast Credit Union’s business practices. Setup a car loan through them and they charge a $5 a month fee to process this, never have I ever had a fee to transfer from my bank to pay a car payment. I also paid more the the balance due to pay it off earlier, and they decided to put that money towards “interest” instead of paying off the principal. This is not “spreading happiness” like your mission statement claims. Shame on you.

Over the (too many) years that I have had to deal with NECU for my car loan, I have never felt secure in their "auto pay" system. For years each month I was given a collection call because the auto pay system failed. (and still do, by the way). Our information isn't saved, after supposedly setting it up. Over and over again. It's as if they make money on people paying late... oh wait... Now that I've moved and have had a name change this year, I am having name issues and address issues no matter how many times I try to change it with customer service. I have never understood their 'online banking' or how the auto loans somehow have a different system or different bank that actually takes the payments??? System is not at ALL user friendly and I swear is meant to confuse people on purpose to their financial gain. I wish I could move my loan with literally anyone else. AVOID IF YOU CAN!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. The worst of the worst. Have spent the last two days trying to contact customer service with no answer. Northeast Credit Union does not care about its customers and I have had the most frustrating experience every interaction. I really try to support local businesses, but in this case, I will be switching to a more reliable financial institution. Also Credit Unions do not pay Income Tax, which is just another reason to hate them. Purely for profit.

It a zero star was available, that's what they would get! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!! I gave them a 2nd chance, after being totally upset with them on our first car loan. Got the 2nd car loan from them because they were a LOW rate! Just remember - you get what you pay for! They are absolutely the WORST bank I have ever had to deal with! ZERO customer service and ZERO website availability. ZERO user friendly anything!

Customer Service wait time is ridiculously long. Lobby to use ATM on Holiday wouldn’t open for me, was told door was “finicky”. So fix it! Representative was talking the corporate babble and not listening to my issues at all. Not happy! One star is too high of a rating.

I consistently wait 30-mins or more on hold when I need help. They don't offer a call back or chat option. Imagine trying to check into a hotel and your card is not working and having to wait 40-mins on hold for a simple fix.

Had the most seemless transition with the Portsmouth branch today finalizing a sale of a vehicle with title transfer and was approved for my new car loan In just over an hr. Took the stress right away. Samantha Wilcox was wonderful to work with in a timely manner

Can’t believe the people they have working in their call center. I don’t feel comfortable with Ariel having access to my banking information. She made it quite clear how incompetent she is, disrespectful and unprofessional she is. She refuses to get a supervisor and I’ve been on hold for over 20 minutes and she refuses to do anything at all. Can’t help answer questions about anything. She just keeps saying to call back later if I want to get my issues with them resolved which is not acceptable. I will be transferring my loan elsewhere. Finally 30 minutes later get a “supervisor” who says she’s not actually the supervisor. Says there is nothing she can do and wants to put me on hold again!!! This is obsurd and worrying that these are the people that have access to our banking information!

Don’t bank here unless you want the potential to be punished like a child. God forbid you ever get scammed/have any fraud occur on your account (like that isn’t a horrible enough experience) you’ll get blocked out of any and all online banking! FOR SIX MONTHS. All so they can teach you a lesson - but not a helpful lesson in how not to get scammed - a lesson that you deserve punishment for falling for it! Like thank you I don’t already feel awful enough that I almost lost my money! And scammers are so good at what they do. So you’ve been scammed and now you can’t even check your balances online/your transaction history (which helps you check if any fraudulent transactions happen!), you can only call or go into a branch! Even if I had time to go to a branch, during Covid I’m not comfortable going into a branch - which would be multiple times a week if I wanted to check on my account as often as I would with online banking. And I work all day (during banking hours) so I can’t just call to sit on hold for 20+ minutes whenever I need to check on something. Even if I could get ahold of someone (which is rare) I’m really not comfortable having someone go through everyone of my transactions to tell me what’s gone through and for how much. That’s very invasive. How am I supposed to pay my bills if I can’t see what’s in my account or what transactions have gone through? As soon as I can I’m leaving northeast. They have horrible policies, horrible customer service, and aren’t all that good compared to other credit unions! And I almost told my family to bank here! Hah! What a joke. Now I’ll make sure no one I know opens an account here. Screw you northeast!

I have been a member for many years, the NECU Team in Portsmouth and Northwood have always been helpful and efficient with account and membership. They are always willing to go the extra mile, even when my request is last minute. I’m incredibly appreciative of their customer service!!

I had difficulty with the website which was hard to navigate and sign up for. I received a call back from a representative with the bank after making a request for more information. They were able to walk me through step by step setting up an account and linking an outside account.
