Jayhawk Pawn & Jewelry Reviews

Offered the owner 8 ounces of 0.999 Troy silver for cash value and the owner of the store had to Google the value of silver. He then offered me $90 bucks on roughly $200 worth of silver. Do not try to sell any sort of precious metals here.

"They didn't give me a big enough discount, and I'm a big crybaby. So I'll write a negative review and call them thieves and liars." Makes sense. The fact is that this is a pawn shop, not a retail outlet, a junk shop, or a yard sale. They sell mostly used stuff, in mostly good condition, for mostly fair prices. I've been dealing with them for years, and they will usually negotiate on prices and treat you right if you don't act like you're entitled to royal treatment. You don't get to name your price anywhere you shop, and a pawn shop is no exception. They will continue to have my business because they have what I need for a good price. Period.

The staff here were not friendly to me at all. Very cold and short. A little “how are you today” goes a long way! Very rude about the stuff you are trying to sell and I can easily tell they were trying to take advantage of me since I was not familiar with pricing at pawn shops. I won’t be going back.

We have sold a few things to this pawn shop, but not again after today. My fiance went in here to sell a Cry Baby guitar pedal and a 14k gold pendant. They had to test my necklace to ensure the gold is real. However, he only tested the chain the pendant was attached to (which was a fake gold chain I had grabbed quickly out of my jewelry box to attach to it so we wouldn't lose it). They refused the sale saying the entire necklace saying it was all fake gold. So now, I have a ruined chain with a black spot on the center of it because he didn't test the chain in a hidden area like a clasp, and they weren't supposed to test the chain period because I WAS NOT SELLING THE CHAIN. Then was super rude saying the entire thing was fake and didn't give my fiance a chance to tell him that we weren't selling the chain, and that we knew it was fake. I called to ask why and he said they don't accept pendants without the chain. That's fine, But you need to tell people that BEFORE you RUIN the jewelry they aren't even trying to sell you. THIS PENDANT IS 14K GOLD AND I SOLD IT TO THE NEXT PAWN SHOP FOE $50 DOLLARS BECAUSE THEY TESTED THE APPROPRIATE ITEM! After accusing us of trying to sell a fake necklace, they undercut the price on the Cry Baby even though they were just saying how they sold 3 of them this week. We turned down their low-ball offer because they were so rude and ruined my necklace chain. Do not go here to buy or sell. They low-ball you and then sell your item like it is new. And ruin the items they won't buy from you

Wow, what a joke. This place used to have stuff you might want to buy at decent prices. Now it's some kind of outlet store for useless Chinese junk that literally no one wants. Weird toys and bathroom fixtures? The stuff on the shelves is laughable, and I guess they got rid of the staff who knew what they were doing. (Or they quit - I hope so. Good luck to them.) There is literally no reason to walk into this place anymore. I doubt it will be there in a year.

Worst experience at any pawn shop I've ever been to. Every piece is way overpriced. They have used gaming systems priced as brand new. Same with their guitar selection. And don't even think about buying any gold from them... they will make a huge deal out of testing the piece and weighing it. (Even though that's what determines actual value) They will change prices on you, they'll change what they're looking for, they're all very shady. Not one hello or thank you from any of the employees. The only thing that I got from any employee was some sass telling me that I was incorrect about which piece I was talking about. Even though I had tried it on, discussed a price, and tried to make a deal on it a week before. Been here many times, but I'm never going back again. Note to the owner/operator - Learn how to price and label your pieces properly, you could have actually made a sale!

I inherited some guns in October and took them to three pawnshops in town. Jayhawk was by far the most knowledgeable and gave me the fairest offers. To be honest, I was a bit put off by some negative reviews that I read on Google, but I guess you can't trust everything you read online! My experience was 100% positive and I will be returning. A+ staff and service.

Well I am editing my last review. Been in this place a handful of times, so recently I went back because I heard a handful of their old employees opened a new pawn shop, so figured I would see if the customer service had changed. Let me first start off by saying the young man that helped me was extremely polite. Unfortunately he isn't a pawn broker, he is basically a salesman. So the story goes, I went in looking for a .22 revolver for a fathers day gift, they had a few used, great I thought to myself, until I saw the price, $169.99 + tax on a USED heritage 22 revolver. So I offered the guy $150 CASH out the door, he looked at me really weird like someone hasn't tried to haggle with him before. By doing simple math the transaction would have came out to $184.74 at their price, I'm asking for a whopping $34.74 off a used item in a pawn shop. They turned my offer down after the young man had to go consult with what I assume is the manager (thin up top, looks really angry), So the manager offered (well told the young man to come tell me that) a 10% discount, awesome you paid the taxes for me. I even tried to joke around with the guy when the computer wouldn't allow the 10% discount and said "oh yeah, I bet its supposed to be 20% to make it work" and laughed and smiled at the guy. If looks could have killed I would have been a dead man. He barely acknowledged me other than to glare at me. This guy is a grade A prick.Granted I still purchased the firearm, not really thrilled about it but still did because I was there and it was "convenient". Then the guy asked how I was paying for it and I gave him my Visa card, "wait I thought you were paying cash", yep I would have if you would have given me the deal, but you can eat the 3%-5% charge. I will never be coming back to your business after this last deal. I'm sorry but if you don't have $35 in wiggle room on the item (which I know you do, I would almost bet the price of the gun that you gave some guy MAYBE $75 for it). Anyone that goes here, I wish you the best of luck because what the sticker says, you're paying it. S&S Tactical will be getting ALL of my local gun business.

I talked to the guy who kinda looks like a frog and it's like he was being difficult on purpose. He barely answered any of my questions and acted like I was bothering him. That experience makes me not want to go back there again...you'd think that they'd see these aweful reviews and think to improve their customer service but then again people are relying on them to pay for important things so they have the power. Taking advantage of people in that way is a garbage person thing to do. Don't go here if you don't have to.

Horrible service. Run by unscrupulous dirtbags who don't know their trade any further than what they can figure out on eBay. They WILL change the price of your item at checkout, so be aware that advertised or agreed-upon prices will not be honored unless they feel like doing so. Save your money or support a better local business that doesn't obviously hate their customers.
