From the very first call until closing, we were blown away by how much Chris was there to support us through this very stressful process. He is incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. My experience with them started well but ended awfully. I was referred to Maryla Ciechanowicz by a friend. We started talking around July 2021, to get a mortgage for a condo we were looking forward to purchasing. Since we are foreign buyers, Maryla introduced us to a local bank called Interaudi Bank. We were set to close at the end of November. A week before the closing Marlya asked us for her brokerage fee. We paid her brokerage fee before the closing. Later we learned that brokerage fees are normally collected at the closing but it was too late. On the closing day when I went to my lawyer’s office to sign the closing, we found out that the rate was 43 basis points higher than what we initially agreed on. It turned out that there was a certain date, which the terms of our initial agreement were valid until. Deadline had expired three weeks before the closing. Maryla collected her brokerage fee without informing us of this expiration issue. We ended up canceling the closing. After the cancellation of the closing, we requested her to refund a portion of her brokerage fee. She told us to communicate with Gino Paone, who is the VP of sales. Here is the part of our experience that frustrated us the most. At our first call with Gino, he mentioned to us that the term for the early payment was addressed in our initial agreement with them and they had a copy of our signed agreement. We kindly requested him to send us this agreement, because we had no such agreement on our records. Gino did not submit a copy of the agreement he claimed we had signed. They kept mentioning that they were reallocating their office, and they only had a physical file for our agreement. By the way, if you are someone that likes to work digitally, you should reconsider working with them. Approximately after our two months of efforts to communicate with them, Gino became unreachable. I reached out to Maryla, she told me the same story of not being able to find a copy of our agreement due to office reallocation. She gave some personal excuses and kept saying that Gino was looking for the signed agreement, and he would give us a call. It has been five months since we first contacted them for the partial refund, and Gino never called back… We ended up paying a very large brokerage fee for a mortgage we never obtained.

Natasha Alarcon (Jr. Underwriter) was very thorough and answered my questions without delay. She was great to work with and I enjoyed the purchasing experience with her assistance.

I just had the closing for my apartment purchase a few days ago with GuardHill Financial as my mortgage providers. Their service was truly excellent! Natasha Alarcon and David Breitstein guided me through the entire process with ease. Their communication was always fast and efficient. They extended my rate lock by almost two months at no extra cost to me. That was completely amazing! David also helped me navigate through a tricky credit score issue related to a name change that arose at the very beginning of the process with one of the credit bureaus. My experience with GuardHill was not good -- I do not recommend. I believe D'Laine and Carly meant well, but ultimately feel like there was detrimental lack of communication between them, the underwriter and myself. I am a freelancer who has worked under both W2s + 1099s. I understand this can be confusing, but clarified that I no longer received paystubs for a W2 gig I had multiple times by phone an email. But they kept waiting and asking for them again and again until they used up all my original allotted time AND almost all my extension time. Very disappointed. Again, they were very nice, but for such a big, important deal I would much rather work with someone who listens and is direct + honest over nice. **UPDATE** I was disappointed in the response from Guardhill only acknowledging that I did not receive my desired outcome. So I am writing this now as I have had more success with a different mortgage company. 1. Guardhill charged me my application fee upfront, which my new company is charging me at close. 2. At this new company, the broker just spoke more directly / clearly to their underwriter and was able to clarify my income correctly (based on my 2020 taxes I recently filed -- an option NOT offered or explored to me by Guardhill) and successfully got my commitment letter. 3. The one positive I will note about Guardhill is that they do / did have a lower interest rate than this new company I am working with.

GuardHill became our top choice after receiving four different quotes. Pros- Lowest rate with no points Lowest closing costs Simple online submission with GuardHill app Timely closing Easily the best customer service, Joy and Amber, Madeline. Cons- Entirely remote - regular communication and clarification via email and phone calls. Some electronic paperwork submissions were requested more than once, not a big inconvenience, and the crew at GuardHill was so quick to respond these minor redundancies were quickly resolved. Bottom Line: Get your three quotes, but make sure GuardHill is one of them! JT & ST

Years ago, when I was a 1st time home owner, I was introduced to D'Laine, and she guided me through a difficult co-op purchase in NYC step-by-step. She was amazing - extremely informative and eased all of my nerves. This time, I approached her to refinance and she was even more amazing - Guiding me through this process during the pandemic, making sure everything moved forward, fighting for me when things were delayed due to COVID closures, AND she found me an amazing rate! Her customer service is outstanding! I am so grateful I was introduced to her all those years ago. I will keep coming back. Wendy & her team were great and very efficient. Big shout out to Claire who was very professional, thoughtful, caring and responsive. She was very quick with responses and made sure things went right the whole time. She made herself available even on a holiday as well as during a sick day. The whole experience felt very personalized. The process went very smoothly and it closed sooner than expected. Although the rates and fees were a bit less than desirable but that was up to the market and the services definitely lived up to it. Regardless, they were very dependable for their purposes as a mortgage lender. They have my endorsement.
