FORUM Credit Union Reviews

I can't thank FORUM enough for their help yesterday! I lost my wallet over the weekend, and as any of you who have gone through that know, that means there is an enormous amount of work to be done contacting credit companies, individual businesses, banks, etc. to avoid identity theft. (Note: I've had my identity stolen twice when I answered an incoming call on my cellphone, and found out that someone in Beijing was using my information; and the second time, someone in St. Petersburg, Russia was using my information.) I have a savings account at Forum. We closed that account and transferred money into a new account. The woman who I worked took my information and contacted the three credit agencies and the companies I have credit cards with and let them know my wallet was missing, and then ordered replacement cards for me. It wasn't that she went the extra mile to help me -- she went the extra TEN MILES, and it cut down the work I had to do easily by half! This was world-class customer service.

I left Forum today because I was unhappy with my mortgage refinance experience. It was a difficult decision because I really liked the people at the branch I used for ten years. I couldn't give a low rating to the branch because they really have nothing to do with the mortgage process, they just hand out a card for an outside party. They were helpful in sending documents to that outside party. This review is more for Forum as a whole. I do take some responsibility for my negative experience. I had a little bit of a unique situation moving into a property that I'd recently rezoned and being a business owner. In hindsight I should've seen someone local that specializes in mortgages with more options available. If I could've sat down with a professional and dealt with any potential issues before sending off to underwriting I'm sure they could've been resolved as I'm a well qualified applicant. Granted for the money Forum charges for the service one would expect more. At times I was left wondering what I was getting for the fees I was paying as I felt like I was doing all the work. The most glaring example of this is that I had to go to Forum, print out my bank statements and fax them to Forum. A mortgage is one of the biggest and critical processes a person goes through. It's frustrating that a waiter at a good restaurant will give more personalized service to make sure you have an enjoyable dinner experience than a loan officer will to help you make a decision you'll be living with for 15-30 years. I wish I'd of done more research going in. I found that financial advisors strongly recommend using an independent broker who only handles mortgages instead of an institution that offers a smorgasbord of services. The mortgage falling through close to when I was expecting to close had quite an impact I'll be recovering from for some months to come. I didn't think I could stay with Forum and feel good about it. I didn't get the more personalized service I expected with a small credit union. It was really the same experience as the big banks but less convenient with fewer locations and ATMs.

As a credit union they are no help at all with the stimulus checks. I got 2800 and they told me to mail half of it back to the IRS while laughing in my face and humiliating me. Two months later after the check was cashed I get a letter saying I was saposed to get the full 2800. You would think a credit union should know these things. So basically they robbed me.

******UPDATE******* The branch reached out to us after my previous review to correct or amend the misunderstanding. Never have I had a bank go to that measure to rectify a situation. After speaking with my fiance some of the misunderstanding or miscommunication was on our part. Thus, my previous review was unfair. For them to reach out to us shows they care. My opinion has changed. ********** Frustrated with this branch. Significant other was layed off due to Covid-19. We have credit insurance for emergency cases like unemployment. We requested to use that service that we pay for but instead signed us up for a deferral program for 2 months. But the deferral was not honored. They marked the account past due and charged late fees. So we scraped what we could together to make the payment. And month 2 the same thing happened. It's a joke. I will not sign up for any additional services with Forum because the services they provide are not what they seem.

they give me 4 free fee foreign atms that I can use without getting any fees out. well it happen and not just once, last time i called my bank the coworker reversed the transaction, and this time a supervisor said no, even though i brought that subject up from last time. they just didnt care. what a bank!! This place is also stealing my money on the atm fees that I'm suppose to get reimbursed for. Scam!!

I have never been happier with a bank like I am with Forum Credit Union. They treat you like a member, not a number.
