Credit Union of Colorado, Central Denver Reviews

This bank used to be amazing, but it is absolute garbage now. The lending department is the worst for smooth transactions and is unbelievable difficult due to employee incompetence. We had 5 car loans through them and are taking them to another institution and closing all our accounts. Absolute shame what they've become.
Thank you for the feedback, TJ. We don't discuss member financial business in public online spaces, but we invite you to call our lending department to discuss any specific concerns you might have with any of your loans. We are here to help you find the solution that is best for you.

I have been a member for over 12 years. There are compromises with some of the bells and whistles that come with some Fintech institutions, but CUofCO offers great products, relationships and service not found anywhere else. If you’re looking for a long term financial relationship, this is the place to go. I haven’t lived in Colorado for years, but still keep the CU as my primary banking relationship. If you want high fees and gotchas just to save a few minutes/hours for a decision, then go to a Fintech or big bank.
Thank you for this review. We appreciate your loyal membership and look forward to serving you for many years to come.

Underwriter department is worthless and so is management at the branch. I recommend you have your credit score and go to a real lender.

I don't ask for much. Keep track of my money. Patiently explain things I don't understand, & make me feel welcome & valued as a customer. I don't use the app, I never liked online banking. I call and speak to whoever's on the other end of the line, & most of the time I get treated with above average service. I like that.
Hi Mina, thank you for sharing this. We appreciate your loyal membership!

If I could give zero stars. I would. When I took out the loan, nobody seemed to communicate and it was very poorly run. I switched auto insurance in January and didn’t notify them. So they added over $4k to my loan for “loan advanced insurance.” Mind you, my vehicle is obviously still covered, just under a different company. They made no attempt to call me, email me, nothing. It was just added to my loan. I’ve been getting “overdue payment” emails all weekend and I’ve never been late on a payment so I opened my account and it was WAY higher than I expected. Do not bank or take out a loan here. What a nightmare.

I've done hundred of transactions with Credit Union of Colorado (including when they were Colorado State Employees Credit Union) and never had an issue. I wonder if some of these negative reviews are fake, made by some competitors. All of their tellers and phone service people I've interacted with are top rate and always courteous and efficient. Their rates aren't always the best, as you should always shop around for the best rate, but they are always competitive. Compare this establishment with any bank, and they are head and heals above them.
Thank you for the excellent rating Julio. We appreciate your loyal membership!

A credit union that takes on one car loan but declines a second when they have the chance to capture my business for both assets is really quite pathetic. The fact that this credit union declines top tier clients due to a couple of slow pays (Not late pays) DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC is comical to say the least. Go get a loan at another credit union don’t bank with these clowns. I’ll be taking my current car loan elsewhere as well thankfully. They won’t last too much longer anyways horrible reviews everywhere. Solid 1.8 out of 5 on the BBB. Makes sense so much for being “member friendly.” ***UPDATE*** We got the car the next day and at a MUCH better rate than CU of CO would have offered. So regardless I was getting the vehicle its a shame they dont want to keep business in house no matter what we were getting that payment and vehicle. Their underwriting department is an absolute joke and look how they answer. I don’t want you to talk about my loan details I want you to acknowledge the fact that you’re not member friendly and thats why I’m taking my loan elsewhere.
Hi Brian, thank you for your review. We invite you to speak with a loan specialist to go over any details about your loan. As always our decisioning is in the best interest of our membership. We do not discuss account specifics in online public spaces, but would be happy to talk with you and answer any questions you may have.

When this institute was known as Colorado State Employees Credit Union it was great: actual People answered the phone, you could use your debit or credit card without fear of getting it locked-out. There was actual customer service, because I felt the employees actually cared about the clients. With the name change the first thing that went right out the window was customer service. There is a phone menu that has you waiting for up to a half hour before any will get to you. The Visa debit / credit service that they use you can only get, if you’re lucky are people who speak broken-English and will not get you to a representative in the United States. Your debit/credit card gets put on hold for you using it to purchase goods and services. They (CUofCO) call it fraud protection; I call it a major pain in the @ss. I cannot and will not recommend this financial institution to anyone. If you know of a credit Union or bank that treats the customer like they used to treat customers in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s let me know. I’m ready to bail.

Been a member of the Credit Union of Colorado for many decades now. I have also been a customer of banks during and before those decades . Overall, I continue to find the personnel very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. There have been a couple of speed bumps over that long stretch of time, but it has always turned out well. I continue to recommend them to any friend or family member that has need of a great and continually improving banking service.
Thank you for your thoughtful review Joe. We appreciate that you have shared your experience in this space. We look forward to serving you for many years to come.

My wife and I have been with this credit Union for 30 years. Through thick and thin they have served us well. Even during times when we lived overseas or had any number of special requests the staff has always been responsive and competent. The VISA interest rate is quite reasonable, too! I would be very sorry to lose the CUofCO.
Hi Jay, thank you for sharing your experience here. We are so happy to serve you!

Ive always had a positive experience at other branches but didn’t feel like the manager at this downtown location handled the situation very well. I had a fraudulent charge on my card (with the company in question attempting a charge with my outdated address, expired card, wrong card name and wrong phone number) and the manager insinuated that the company “had to” have gotten my updated/correct card information somehow even though the credit union’s very own fraud department flagged the charge as suspicious and contacted me when it happened. It felt like the manager was either not believing what I said or not understanding the information I provided. It’s already stressful to go through the process for a fraud claim and you’d think the bank would make the experience better, instead of causing more stress. The last time I had an attempted fraudulent charge about 4 years ago, it was blocked on the spot and the Bear Valley location was much more professional and understanding in helping report the claim afterwards. Maybe the Logan St. location is different because it’s in the middle of the city but it’s still unprofessional and not ok to question your customers and leave all the leg work to them. I’ve always appreciated dealing with a local credit union with a personalized experience and I’ve always recommended CUOFCO to other people. However this last experience has me questioning my loyalty as a customer, considering my husband who banks with big bank BOA gets immediate block for unauthorized charges and more comprehensive and empathetic customer service after the fact.
Hi Rachel, thank you for sharing your experience. We will take this opportunity to improve. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at Logan. We will listen to your concerns and then find the best possible resolutions for these concerns.

I still do not have a working ATM access to my money in this credit union; this has been a problem for most of 2020, though I have gone in person and spent days (several hours per day) on phone calls to resolve it. I have to drive from Longmont to Denver to go in person, for they have no local brances. They are not on the network of my other credit union (my friend has this issue too), so I can't move money easily to/from my other accounts, and now they've dropped the credit union membership with the Public Service Credit Unions that (I thought) all credit unions have-meaning that if I go out of state or country without a working card, I really have zero access to my money! I am switching credit unions.
