    Cobalt Credit Union Reviews

Honestly the worst. If you want an institution that actually cares about their customers go literally any where else. Charges $35 and returns a check for 50¢ negative. Any bank out there won’t do that for less than $10 let alone 50¢. They also don’t show you anything pending in their online banking so I hope you keep a very detailed checkbook. Every time I have talked to someone for account info/help they have an attitude or act high and mighty. They also wanted to charge me 13% interest on a car loan so charging all these fees doesn’t even equate to lower rates for customers. I work at a bank and the way these people act/the treatment of customers would never fly. Please listen to me and the other reviews, if I had I probably would have saved myself a lot of money and anger!

    Response from the owner

Since SAC renamed to Cobalt, this "credit union" is now more like a bank. By charging monthly fees for "member plus program" on things that you can easily get elsewhere for free, they are no better than a bank. The so-called savings on closing costs is just to offset the higher closing cost fees that they charge. It's also hilarious that they list free debit card replacement as a perk, one that you can get literally anywhere. Cobalt seems to have eventually morphed into what all credit unions eventually turn into once they get too big. I was with SAC for over 7 years before switching to a smaller credit union who doesn't focus on profit or have any service fees. People seem to want to stick with what they know to be "Loyal" but when a business introduces monthly fees they care little about your loyalty.

    Response from the owner

Hello Dan, Thank you for your review and we appreciate your feedback. We do have a value checking account with no monthly fees. Our Contact Center Manager will be reaching out to speak with you about your concerns and answer any questions you may have on our free checking account.

I'm only giving one star because it is required; it does not deserve a star. Not saying this exact location is the problem, the whole system is terrible. Cobalt cards have screwed my husband and I over multiple times, he's had to replace his card at least 4 times for issues ranging from actual fraud to the cards being unreadable at most places and unable to be used for online payments as well; none of which Cobalt really helped solve either, they have brushed us off many times saying the card should be working fine and not doing ANYTHING about it, just wasted our time saying there's absolutely nothing wrong, that's happened with 3 cards now. We can't buy groceries or pay bills; we can't do anything! We are taking all of our money out and switching banks, this place is a damn nightmare!

Worst bank ever in the history of banks. Like many reviews I've read my account apparently locked in their system and cant currently use it currently going on 72hrs for purchases apparently because I've been told due to the on-line purchases i've been making vs the fact I have not used my pin recently a pattern change was detected and the system thinks fraud is being done to my account but yet no one seems to know HOW TO FIX IT. 1. I'm sorry we are in a pandemic and dont want to go to a store every day to use my pin and 2. No one ever called or even texted to say are you the one making these charges please reach out to us.. they claim to have this great fraud protection and yet 5 customer service representatives do not know what to do not how to fix it? I spent Monday with 5 different "customer service" representatives and each one had a different answer or response with no level of training other then to say we can do a callback and have it looked into??? I am sorry but that is not good enough from a bank or Customer Service stand point. Any other bank would of had this resolved in a 2 minute phone call and it would have been done. DO NOT BANK WITH THEM. Please take mine and so many other reviews written seriously there is a reason this bank has 2.6 stars and dropping.. As soon as they open back up for face to face interactions I will be closing and moving all of my accounts and that's if I can even access them by then!!!!!!!!!!

If there were a way to give zero stars, I would!!!! We have an auto loan processed through a local Ford dealership and it was placed with SAC fcu which then changed over to COBALT CU. The loan was screwed up from day one...wrong date for the first payment due date....ended up being before we even got delivery of the final paperwork from the Finance Office at the dealership, so our loan showed past due immediately and we had to make an extra payment because the bank insisted it wasn't their fault!!! Then, even though we had to provide proof of current insurance before we could drive the truck off the dealership lot, we have been continually threatened that they have NEVER received any proof of insurance, so they are going to FORCE PLACE INSURANCE!!! So we have sent over proof of insurance SIX different times, even via the dealership so we would have proof we sent it in!!!! Then, even though we had current plates in AZ that were switched over to the truck, and we have renewed them again since then, we are being continually threatened that we MUST provide proof of registration for the vehicle or they will repossess it!!!! Again, we have sent proof of registration in on SIX different occasions and they are STILL saying they don't have it!!!! It has been insured and licensed since day one, and we have forwarded this to both the bank and the dealership! Now, we find out they have placed CPI on the loan and charged almost $6000 to our loan balance!!! This is RIDICULOUS! This needs to be fully refunded and discontinued immediately or we will consult an attorney!!!! THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE!!!! THEY ARE THIEVES!!!!!

Have a $25,000+ loan with them. I walked up to the door right at closing time with my newborn son in my arm to pay my loan, and the guy looked me in the eyes locked the door, and walked away as I was trying to make my payment. They have poor customer service with misinformed employees. My interest rate is 7%, which is a steal for them, and that is how they treat their loyal consumer. I would not recommend. They were good in the past and have took a turn for the worst. Good luck to future customers!

    Response from the owner

We apologize for this experience and are following up immediately. Please know we are focused on member service and appreciate the feedback. We also have drive-through hours at this location who can accept payments and video banking as late as 7 pm. We would like an opportunity to connect with you soon.

If i could give them zero stars i would. Absolutely terrible customer service. I normally use their drive thru service (which is terrible to begin with). But today they were “out of service”. So i have to go inside to deposit the check and immediately get hounded for not wearing a mask, i couldn’t get in one word. After standing there listening to them (yes two separate employees) hound me i finally get to speak. I proceeded to tell them their machines are broke and that i could not use them. One of the employees tried to walk me through the process of how to use one.. as i restated saying it’s specifically says OUT OF SERVICE! The other employee than says well if you don’t have a mask your not welcome in the building. 1. If you want people to wear a mask than YOU as a company need to provide them! 2. Fix your machines, since you don’t have a window for drive up customers! (Most people don’t want to go in anyways due to COVID!) 3. Kindness goes a lot further than hounding someone! 4. You could have simply taken the check from me and done the deposit, no receipt was needed and i could’ve easily sat it on the counter. 5. The time i was in the building while y’all hounded me, i could’ve deposited the check and been out quicker.

    Response from the owner

EDIT 1/4/2019: if you use the remote teller, deposits are usually credited quickly. Don't use ATM deposit or checks will be held for 3 days. I increased my rating from 1 to 3 stars after I learned this policy, which is new under Cobalt. Still not thrilled with the switch to Cobalt. Original Review mid-2018: SAC Federal Credit Union used to be a great place to bank. However, recently changed to Cobalt Credit Union. None of the customers were made aware of this until AFTER the change and I only found out because I went to login to my online banking to find the name had changed. What's even worse, and the reason I am switching to a different credit union, is that immediately after the change, any check deposits I made were subject to a 7-DAY HOLD!!!! This might be understandable for a personal check, but for a check issued by multi-million dollar Liberty Mutual ?!?!?!?! This NEVER happened before under SAC Federal Credit Union ownership!!!

My account locks for "fraud protection" every month with no immediate response to help resolve the issue. The automotive system has only called me twice to confirm I was the person making the transactions. After I Confirmed it was in fact me, my card was still locked for 24hrs. Peter a customer service teller told me he could not keep me on the phone while waiting for a supervisor to resolve the issue because he had "other calls to get to"

    Response from the owner

Tray, we apologize for this experience and we will follow up immediately. We take our members fraud security very seriously, and we have protocol to ensure your protection. When our members are involved with fraud, we recommend contacting us through video banking or stopping in to a branch.

Similar experience to what others said. They screwed up my paperwork, acted like it was my fault. Since it could have impacted my taxes at the end of the year, I tried to contact a manager at the main branch - they passed me off to a Cust Service rep. At that point, I closed my accounts. There are better out there.
