Been doing business with Evan for many years now. Great knife selection. Trades in precious metals. Always helpful and fair. My first stop for pawn shops in Tupelo. Recommend to everyone to give them an opportunity to earn your business.

I savor the soft, warming light that is reflected off of Evan’s lustrous dome. It radiates into my soul. Also, his expertise in all things French is truly astounding. David always has a smile and just emanates joy. His bubbly demeanor is infectious. I relish the experience of being in the company of such sterling beings. They have some stuff in there that I sometimes wanna buy, too.

I always enjoy visiting Evans shop. It is extremely clean and orderly, the service is professional and polite. I have had transfers performed by many ffls in this area, City Pawn is now the only place i would consider for a transfer. The fee is very reasonable and the process has been smooth and efficient time after time.

I don't know if someone was having a bad day or what but it was not a nice experience. This was our first and last visit here. My friend and I had some items to sell that we've had for a while and wanted to see what a pawn shop could offer before trying to sell online. I also had a good amount of scrap gold but was not going to mention that unless I felt okay with how things progressed. The person working the day we went was very condescending and basically acted as if we were bothering him. I don't know his name because he never told us or if he is a regular employee there. Both of us noticed how rough he was in handling the items. Several times I thought he was going to cause damage. I've never seen a potential buyer handle items as carelessly as he did. All his comments were negative, not one positive comment about any of our items. We also had an item which we had recently received a good offer due to the weight from another place so we knew beforehand what it should bring. My friend wanted to see what he would offer as he already knew the weight and the minimum that should be offered. We both noticed that he did not mention the weight of any item or how he was determining the value of it. After about 1-2 minutes of tossing everything around while making disparaging comments, he made an offer for all the items without explaining how he came to that amount. It was actually less than HALF of what my friend had been quoted for just ONE of the items. We were both shocked and my friend told him he has already been offered over double that amount for just one item. He actually got angry at this point and became even ruder than before. The story does have a happy ending though. We went a short distance up the road to Crosstown, which BTW everyone recommended when we mentioned we were going to try pawn shops. The experience was like night and day. In the end, we ended up doing business with Crosstown and we received pretty much what we wanted for the items there. I also got rid of the scrap gold for more than I expected that same day as well. So, my experience with City Pawn of Tupelo was very unpleasant, unwelcoming and uncomfortable. I want to further state that we went to several pawn shops and a jeweler. The employee at City of Pawn was the only one that was rude and disrespectful. And we received the lowest offer there by far.

    Response from the owner

“It was actually HALF of what my friend had been quoted for just ONE of the items”. This quote is a clear indication that this review has no veracity. It is mathematically nearly impossible for that statement to be accurate. “We already knew the weight and the minimum that should be offered”. This is another highly questionable statement. In five years of business, I’ve encountered a limited number of customers who knew what their gold’s purity and weight was. Only a small percentage of those people knew how to calculate the exact value based off of purity and weight. The vast majority of those few customers who do know handle precious metals routinely and don’t shop around at pawn shops for prices. They have previously used outlets to sell their gold. It is also surprising that the customer is making statements that would indicate at least some degree of knowledge of jewelry, yet they claim they and their friend thought their scrap gold would break from rough handling. It takes a conscious effort and usually a couple of attempts, usually using a tool, to physically break gold. When and if customer decides not to accept an offer, they are simplify handed back their items, told thanks and have a nice day. Many times they come back a few hours later and accept the offer. Especially with gold, there is essentially no reason or need for “negative and disparaging” comments. The discussion turns quickly to determining the purity based off of examination and testing. The items are then weighed and an offer made. There is nothing about gold that a potential buyer can say to a seller that can be deemed as negative besides the value isn’t high enough to pay the asking price. The reviewer made it clear that they didn’t have an asking price in this instance. Occasionally a pawnbroker has the tough job to tell a customer that they can pay a certain amount for a particular item and in explaining why, they must point out things that can be seen as negative. However, with scrap gold it is very cut and dry. Items are not handled carelessly here, and, to the contrary, there is even a cutting board sitting on the counter for the sole purpose to protect the glass from damage. This review is at best a highly embellished recollection and at worst an outright false and malicious review.
