Amalgamated Bank E 14th St, New York

Amalgamated Bank is well run and has a nice pleasant & professional staff from the tellers to the bank officers. They are courteous and will handle any matter you have in a prompt and efficient manner.

My experience has been awful. I should’ve taken the reviews seriously. All that diverse, climate-friendly, bank for the people narrative is nothing but a sham to cover their incompetence. I would not recommend this bank.

I don’t know why there are so many negative reviews,I’ve been a customer of this bank for years and never any issues,yes they are a small bank but they take care of their clients always.I only had one problem is when someone wrote and cashed a fake check from my account for almost $5000 but it was not the Banks fault as someone stole my information.I called the bank and they froze my account immediately and asked me to come in and open a new account which I did.Right after opening new account they launched an investigation and confirmed that it was a false check and refunded me the full amount within a day or two.While they fixed that issue,the bank manager was amazing in helping me step by step of what to do and after I left the bank she kept calling me and updating me on how to proceed with transferring money to my new account and switching direct deposit with my employer plus before I left the bank they immediately gave me a new ATM card with a new account.They were amazing and I would give them more stars if I could!!!

Online Banking experience is terrible. Customer service number hangs up repeatedly. The only branch in NYC is impossible to reach via phone. Amalgamated bank has become negligent to their loyal customers. Don't give them your money.

Doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles of major banks. Does not ding you with fees either. Representatives can fix problems. No cash withdrawal fees from ATMs. Union owned and worth your support. Stay away from the big banks.

Sadly, this bank (HQ, not a single branch) seems poorly run. I went with them for sentimental reasons, but they are slow to respond, outdated in terms of web interface, and overall backwards compared to other modern banks. I wish I could say the “good guys” were better, but my experience was I was made to suffer by doing the “right thing” and going with them.

I am seriously considering this bank although there are a lot of issues in the reviews. The fact of the matter is any institution who is doing it right is not going to be convenient and there will be some issues. You just have to remember why your doing it and maybe keep two accounts until the bank has updated and become more customer friendly in regards to usage. If there is a disgruntled employee let the manager know that the particular employee (who may be having a bad day) should be reassigned to a non customer service position until they feel up to the challenge of doing good solid customer service. This bank seems to be one of the good guys and they should be encouraging their employees about the positive differences they are making by working there. Stick it out, use the bank as a savings spot not a checking one until you feel they are meeting your standards. It's hard enough already to find places to spend your money ethically so work with them. Maybe not

rep just called me and said - Ma'am. I explained several times, I am not Ma'am, I am male person. But they kept calling me Ma'am, Can you do something with your Customer Service? I am thinking to close account with them.

TERRIBLE BANK. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. TERRIBLE PEOPLE. Avoid this bank and any branch of it. I was there today to open an account and an Indian "lady" was very rude with. I was DISCRIMINATED for this STUPID woman for nothing. Or maybe the discrimination was because I didn't look like her. Of course I don't look like her. SHE IS UGLY IN AND OUT. EEEEWWWW. Don't go to this bank NEVER. STUPID BANK AND PEOPLE

I have an account, but it is absolutely impossible for me to access it online. The bank makes it impossible because no one can navigate the bank’s system to obtain information about their own account. Amalgamated Bank’s site doesn’t offer any 1, 2, 3, simple steps so that a customer can get online access to his own account. They are either indifferent to their customers’ needs or they’re unable to design a simple system. A very unhappy customer.
